1 IMPORTING A DCS 2.0 FILE INTO CORELDRAW SOFTWARE This is an instructional guide for importing a CS2 file into CorelDRAW software. 1 Select New Graphic or go to the FILE MENU > NEW. 2 Go to the FILE MENU > IMPORT Do not open or drag and drop images into CorelDRAW; they must be IMPORTED. Opening will result in multiple grayscale layers and not the proper single color image expected when properly imported. 1

2 IMPORTING A DCS 2.0 FILE INTO CORELDRAW SOFTWARE 3 In the Import Dialog Box, find the EPS file you want to bring in. Be sure that in the Import window, the Files of Type setting is set to All File Formats. Once the DCS 2.0 EPS file is selected, you will notice that the File Format will show EPS-Encapsulated PostScript. Click Import. 4 When the Import EPS window appears, make sure there is a dot in front of Place as Encapsulated PostScript. Then, click and drag the import cursor icon tothe size that you would like your image to be. Once the image is imported, you can resize as needed. bb30070 Paintball Baseball 2

3 IMPORTING A DCS 2.0 FILE INTO CORELDRAW SOFTWARE 5 Go to WINDOW > COLOR PALETTES > COLOR PALETTE BROWSER. In the Color Palette Browser window, open (cascade) the User s Palettes, and check on the Custom Spot Colors option. A floating window will apear on your screen. 6 If you have some old colors in your color palette from a previous job, you will need to flush these out before you will be able to see your new spot colors. You can do this either by going to the Tools Menu, opening the Palette Editor, and deleting any unwanted colors. You can also click on the Palette Editor icon in the Color Palette Browser window as shown to the right and delete any old colors. It is important to clear the Palette Editor so that CorelDraw can identify the custom colors associated with the newly imported EPS file. CorelDraw retains colors from previous jobs, making it necessary to clear these palettes each time. 3

4 IMPORTING A DCS 2.0 FILE INTO CORELDRAW SOFTWARE 7 Go to FILE MENU > PRINT. You might get a warning message for each unknown spot color. Hit OK for each one. Close Print Preview. 8 If all of your ink colors have not popped up in the new color browser, re-open the Color Palette Browser, and uncheck and re-check the Custom Spot Color Box. This will refresh the palette and load the new ink colors. 9 You are now free to add any vector elements to this graphic and use the existing spot colors or any others you wish to create before output. 4

5 REGISTRATION MARKS/PRINTING REGISTRATION MARKS/PRINTING 1 Add registration marks to your document. Great Dane Graphics suggests you create your own marks (the marks in the drawing programs are designed for the offset industry). Be sure to colorize these marks with the 100C100M100Y100K color in the color list. This allows the marks to print on all of your pages. When you create your own marks, you have the ability to customize them. You can use any shape you like. BB30006 Baseball Glove and Plate 2 Now, you re ready to print out your separations. Go to FILE > PRINT. 5

6 REGISTRATION MARKS/PRINTING 3 Go to SETTINGS > SEPARATIONS. Check the Print Separations box and the Use Advanced Settings box. Uncheck any colors that are not the spot colors you wish to use. Now, click the Advanced button. 4 Great Dane Graphics suggests that you set your frequency and angles in your DCS 2.0 file in Photoshop software. Those settings will override CorelDRAW s settings. If you have not set up the frequency, angles, and dot shape, you can do so in this area. 5 After clicking OK, your last step is to go FILE > PRINT. 6

7 TROUBLESHOOTING If you only see one separation color available when going to output, you must check that the Palette Editor has been flushed and the new colors from the imported file have been loaded properly. To do this, follow steps 5 through 7 under Importing Your DCS 2.0 File Into CorelDRAW Software. When opening a new DCS 2.0 EPS file, it is necessary to flush out the older colors from a previous job in order to see your new spot colors. To do this, select the Custom Spot Colors option from the Color Palette Browser. From the icons located at the top of the Color Palette Browser, choose the last one to the right called Palette Editor. Delete all old colors. Close that window and return to the program. Once all the proper colors are loaded correctly, you can continue to add your vector elements and print. You will only see a grayscale composite of your imported separated file in the Preflight Preview window. This is used as an FPO (for position only) view to ensure alignment on your page. All colors are properly listed in the separation tab. Opening a DCS 2.0 EPS file will only display a grayscale of one channel and will not import the spot colors. Import from the File Menu; choose IMPORT a DCS 2.0 EPS File. 7
