2 I N T R O D U C I N G N E X T G E N The Librios NextGen platform lets you monetise and repurpose your content and improve your production workflows. It is designed to help small to medium publishers repurpose their content to lower productions costs and to create additional revenue streams using a digital first approach. With content stored in Librios NextGen, you can sell subscriptions to online access in the site Shop; create custom EPUBs from any content; and output to different formats including InDesign and XML.

5 I M P O RT I N G YO U R C O N T E N T All you need to start is a styled Word document that follows NextGen guidelines with your content in that you copy and paste into the platform s import box. MS Word document The styles used are detected and converted to XML. The platform also supports Excel spreadsheet uploads where appropriate for content such as existing user profiles. Viewing and navigate the content The platform loads the publication into an XML schema-based rich text editor where you can edit the content, add book and chapter-level information, key metadata and tags. When you re ready, you can release the publication to appear to customers online. Edit the content and update metadata

Assigned publications will then appear in the editor s personal dashboard and messages can be sent via the messaging tool. The platform also has release workflow features built in. 10 P R O D U C T I O N F O R M AT S InDesign EPUB XML RSS or ATOM feeds MS Word (inc. round-tripping facility) Production files of a publication can be produced directly on the site. An EPUB can be created with additional metadata and custom designs controlled by CSS styling. An InDesign file can also be produced using InDesign templates containing book layout information and predetermined styles. The platform will automatically apply paragraph and character styles, place images and apply object styles to them. The system will place multipage PDF files into the InDesign document. Support is also available for other features like tables, footnotes, index creation and crossreferences.

12 N AV I G AT I O N, M E TA D ATA & F O OT N OT E S Publication metadata When users view a publication any metadata added is visible with information like ISBN numbers, copyright details as well as systemgenerated metadata like the number of images and the word count. A publication can be navigated via a carousel of the images found within it which have been linked from the image library. Publication navigation via Image carousel Footnotes have been created automatically during import and can now be viewed by the user by simply hovering with a mouse over or via touch on a tablet where these are displayed via pop-up boxes in the content. 13 O N L I N E I - I N D E X Index terms can be read into the platform via tags in the original Word file. Alternatively a spreadsheet of terms can be run against the content, and index terms can also be edited online. This i- Index can be output to EPUB, and to InDesign as codes within the text to generate an index with page numbers. Index markers in the content The i-index can be activated online and provides another way for users to navigate the content. Index markers now appear in the content that can be clicked on, and the user will be taken to that place in the index and can see other entries that may be of interest. Online Index navigation The i-index provides a very useful online method for linking terms together while allowing users to navigate around the content and see terms linked together across the publication.

14 Open My Notes to see your notes against the content Highlight the text Choose Bookmark And Note Add your note See your note highlighted in the content C R E AT I N G N OT E S By selecting a piece of content in a publication a user can create their own personal notes. When highlighting the text, a pop-up appears where the user can click on Bookmark And Note to add their own notes to the content. This is a useful tool for users who may want to create notes based on the content they re reading. Notes can be colour coded on creation and they then appear in the easily accessible My notes pop-out. Users can see all the notes they ve added across publications in their profile and export these out of NextGen for future reference.

Users can access additional image metadata, including publications in which this image appears, by clicking the information icon. 16 Your own personal library bookshelf Create citations C I TAT I O N S, WAT C H A N D M Y L I B R A RY Citations can be created either by clicking on an icon at the top of the content, or by highlighting a selection of content and choosing a citation type. These citations can be viewed, re-organised and exported out of the platform for later reference. Watch content The user has the ability to watch content, where if an editorial workflow change is made the user will be alerted of this via so they can come back to the site and see the latest version. The site also allows users to add publications and chapters that they are interested in to their personal library bookshelf.

18 EPUB auto watermarking O F F L I N E R E A D I N G Within NextGen, EPUB and PDF version of content can be stored against a publication at either book or chapter level. Add EPUB and PDF versions of content for download When a user has access to the content they can download these versions to read offline on their personal devices. These downloaded files are automatically socially DRM d with both visible watermarking and hidden data embedded into the file. PDF auto watermarking

20 Importing and exporting options C E N T R A L M E D I A L I B R A RY Navigating the image library Images can be uploaded into the Media Library via ZIP file or individual image import. A bulk update of the metadata associated with images can be achieved via spreadsheet. All the common image types are supported including JPEG, PNG and TIFF. Viewing an image and it s metadata Video and audio can also be uploaded into the system and stored with the media library. Images are fully searchable on metadata, full text and facets.

22 Search facility S E A R C H I N G Librios NextGen provides powerful searching tools. Search for terms in different fields The user can search for terms within different fields and once they have run the search the system presents what are referred to as facetted search options. Sort options It has looked through all the keyword terms and classifications that are in the search results and dynamically built up a subject index allowing users to further refine the search by a certain category. 25 Organise the layout and metadata on your Coursepack C O U R S E PA C K S Site admins can create new products, or Coursepacks, made up of content from around the platform. These are published on the site and made available for sale. Click on content and add to Coursepack Coursepacks can be accessed by users via the online reader or downloaded as an EPUB file which is automatically socially DRM d based on their payment details and read offline. Publish and sell access to your Coursepack with direct online access and accompanying EPUB Royalty payments can be calculated automatically based on what content has been sold, from which publication and publisher. Coursepacks can also be exported to InDesign, EPUB, XML, Word or a print preview format.

27 Payments page Configurable reports can be created and exported to.csv Checkout and pay for purchases via an online payment provider like PayPal An invoice is ed to the user and information is accessible via their profile area PAY M E N T P R OV I D E R S & R E P O RT I N G The platform can be configured against the payment provider PayPal, and also has the facility for offline purchasing, where invoices are created and managed in the admin area. An admin user can update offline payments and create reports to track invoices by user, status and over a chosen period. The platform also allows for the configuration of discount codes and tax rates. When content has been purchased, a confirmation invoice is sent automatically to the recipient. This information is made available in the My payments area of a user profile.

29 A N A LY T I C S Run reports and use the builtin Google Analytics features Platform activity is recorded, allowing for the creation of analytics and reports that can be exported to spreadsheet. Reports can include the most popular publications, popular content, user activity and profiles using the site the most. View statistics online or create reports to view outside the system The platform also integrates with Google Analytics, allowing admins to view a portion of its reports without having to go directly to the Google Analytics website.

Central admin of all Institutional profiles Institutions can create and administer profiles associated to them and export analytics showing activity on the content they have purchased. Users can create a profile associated to a home institution or they can create a roaming profile that allow them to log in to different institutions IP ranges and access its specific set of content. 38 Navigate events with calendar and list view as well as search E V E N T M A N AG E M E N T Events can be created and searched via a metadata including date range. A calendar view allows for easy navigation. Event metadata also allows for additional information such as location and multiple date ranges and times. Attendance can be purchased by the user or on behalf of colleagues. If different types of tickets are needed, these can be created, sold and managed via the site. Users can export attendee lists with information such as address, and dietary requirements stored in the attendee s profile. Create & sell tickets for the event Invitations to an event can be sent to other users via their connections. The platform auto-archives events as they pass their active dates.

39 Set questions and score them L E A R N I N G The platform is able to provide some social learning and quiz capabilities. For example if a chapter in a publication were about a certain technique in needlework, it d be possible to configure questions at the end for the user to answer and see how well they ve understood the chapter. Blogs, news and discussions can all be created, commented upon and shared to social networking sites. Groups News Jobs can be created and the user can add them to their favourites or apply for them directly on the site. Users can join groups and create content within of interest to the group. Moderation tools ensure user-generated content can be checked prior to public viewing if required. Jobs

42 P L AC E S For example, when importing a travel guide, the platform can be configured to import all place listings, like hotels or museums, in a way that allows them to be viewed and searched online independent of the publication. The system places content in the publication An individual piece of bespoke content profile place is created for the entry with associated metadata and other community features The place can log in itself and update it s own information Clicking through to an attraction shows which guides this content appears in. The platform has used metadata to geo-locate the listing on a map, also enabling the platform to display other attractions nearby. This place content type can also be used like a profile. Using the attraction s contact address, the platform can be configured to automatically send an requesting it to sign into the site and update the attraction s information, for example telephone number or imagery. This in turn also presents the opportunity to begin to build a community around the content.

43 Internally linking to places within EPUB C R E AT I O N O F E P U B Link from EPUB back to online listing on website / DB If a publication which contains place listings is exported to an EPUB these listings are exported in situ, but are also accessible as individual pieces of content within the EPUB. This allows for features such as What s nearby as the system knows the place location and all those close by. Geo-location type behaviour within EPUB to nearby places The EPUB can include a link from the place back to its online web version so allowing access to all of the community features of the site.

44 Re-arrange your document, add notes and choose your output type D O C U M E N T M A K E R Click on content and add to the document maker It s possible to compile different pieces of content from around the platform and output to EPUB, InDesign or Word using the Document Maker. It s a quick way to try out new concepts for titles and create new titles based on existing content. All types of content can be included here, including profiles, place listings, news and blogs. 46 Additional import methods C O N T E N T C O N V E R S I O N & I M P O RT O P T I O N S We provide additional conversion services to import your content into the platform smoothly if you d rather not import from Word files. We can import content directly from EPUB, XML and HTML into NextGen by configuring custom import filters. EPUB XML HTML Conversions services When importing an EPUB through custom filters, the images are added automatically to the central Media Library and linked to in the online publication created. InDesign conversion Import into Conversion to allow InDesign and PDF formats to import into NextGen are also available. PDF conversion Import into
