2 COMPONENTS OF POSTER: Short and concise TITLE INTRODUCTION to your question Overview of experimental approach (METHODS) RESULTS and discussion of results Listing of previously published articles (if applicable) ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS of contributors Recommended Font Types Sans Serif Fonts: Arial, Helvetica, Verdana Choose the right dimension & orientation Check the conference s specifications Recommended Font sizes Poster should be readable from 5 ft away COMPONENT Title of poster Authors Department and institution affiliation Headings Content Captions FONT SIZE pts pts 36 pt pts pts 18 pts Colours Don t use color everywhere Dark letters on light background are easiest to read Stick to a theme of 2 3 colours. 4 Poster Design in PowerPoint Part 2 Poster Design in PowerPoint Worth remembering: Determine size and orientation required before you design Allow time to reprint It takes minimum 24 hours to print and pick up (GSB 3rd floor) Attention will be drawn to posters with crisp, clean designs with interesting titles. with interesting titles. Display only enough information to support the conclusions that are presented on the poster. 6 How to upload your poster If you do have PowerPoint 2007 Upload your file in three (3) easy steps: Save File as PDF Upload your file Pick up your poster the next business day How to load print drivers Go to Click Install Printer Driver Pick your operating system Windows or Mac How to upload your poster How to print file for upload If you don t have PowerPoint 2007 Upload your file in four (4) easy steps: Install Drivers Save File to Postscript Upload your file Pick up your poster the next business day You must have printer drivers installed to do this step 6
7 2/26/2009 How to create your.prn File How to create your.prn File Type the dimensions of your poster starting with the short h t edge d first fi t Click Properties Pick HP Designjet Z6100 Remember the recommended 1 margin. Which means add 2 to each side of your poster. Make it is set to Short Edge First Then Click OK, OK, OK How to create your.prn File How to create your.prn File Under the Advance Tab Pick Postscript Custom Page Size Type your poster name Save to your desktop to upload to printer 7
8 How to upload your poster Go to Hit the Preview button to see the plot - this may take a few minutes - BE PATIENT! Click Upload Your File Enter your Campus Computing ID (CCID) Choose the file from your hard drive Hit the upload button Remember to look at the final size of your plot. You don t want to print a 8.5 x 11 8
9 Choose either Plain or Semi gloss paper by hitting the button REMEMBER PLAIN = 7.50$ per linear foot GLOSSY = 15$ per linear foot For current price listing How to create an effective Poster Remember to read to Terms of Service Click I agree, please print my file YOU CANNOT CHECK YOUR POSTER BEFORE PAYMENT! PRINTING MISTAKES WILL BE COSTLY! Refunds will not be provided in the following situations: Output is unacceptable due to client errors such as spelling mistakes or misplaced graphics. A preview has not been completed. If the online preview does not generate please contact the Helpdesk and we will try to generate a preview for you. A preview was completed and the imperfection is visible on the preview. Colours or images are not what the client expected, and the printer is functioning normally. Clipped or "chopped" output. The printer produces flawed results for any reason, but the client decides to use the results anyway. The PostScript file was not created with valid HP Designjet Printer drivers provided by AICT at The recommended 1 margins were not added to the poster. The poster was designed and saved to postscript with an application not supported by AICT. 9
