1 UNFINISHED MASTER 720p TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS HD FORMAT: All HD Unfinished Masters are to be delivered as ProRes (HQ). ASPECT RATIO: All HD Unfinished Masters are to retain original source aspect ratio of 16x9. VIDEO ENCODING SPECIFICATION: File-based HD video media shall be encoded using Apple ProRes HQ encoder, using the preset described as Apple ProRes p SQ/HQ (1280) 48kHz, which has the following specifications: Compressor: Apple ProRes 422 (HQ) Frame Size: 1280x720 Field Mode Progressive Frame Rate: 59.94fps Field Dominance: None Pixel Aspect Ratio: Square Color Depth: 10-bit Data Rate: Unconstrained VBR Video Quality: 100% Time Code: Drop-frame VIDEO SIGNAL SPECIFICATIONS: First Active Line: Line 26 Last Active Line: Line 745 Maximum Luminance: 714mV Maximum Chrominance: N / A Picture Black: 0mV Color Space: ITU-R BT.709 AUDIO ENCODING SPECIFICATION: File-based HD audio media shall be PCM encoded, using the following specifications: Audio Rate: 48kHz Sample Depth: 24-bit Number of Channels: 10 Audio Assignment Setting (within Metadata): each audio channel essence should be marked as discrete. 2 WRAPPER: File-based HD media shall be wrapped using the Quicktime wrapper. Time Code shall be preserved as a track in the Quicktime file TIMECODE FIX: IMPORTANT: There is a known bug within Apple Final Cut Pro that creates incorrect drop-frame timecode for 720p/59.95 ProRes files. Prior to delivery, this MUST be addressed in the following manner: 1.) Place the clip into the browser 2.) With the clip selected go to the modify menu and select timecode. See Example 1. a. Set Format = Drop Frame b. Set rate to = 30 c. Set Timecode = 00:57:50;00 (or any desired start time code) d. Set Frame To Set = First Page 2

3 e. Click ok then ok again on window that pops up telling you this will modify source file. The resulting file should now be 720p 59.94frame rate with drop frame time code. AUDIO SAMPLING RATE: All audio will be sampled at 48kHz unless source was originally recorded at a 44kHz sampling rate. AUDIO LEVELS: There should be no sustained (longer than 1 second) audio level peaks above +12dB over reference (0dBu, or -20dBFS.) However, brief peak audio levels within the 5.1 mix may reach +20dB over reference, provided there is no signal distortion. Normal conversational dialogue is to stay within +2dB and +7dB over reference. AUDIO CONFIGURATIONS: If 5.1 Audio is provided, the following configuration is to be used: Ch. 1 - Left Ch. 2 - Right Ch. 3 - Center Ch. 4 - LFE (Subwoofer) Ch. 5 - Left Surround Ch. 6 - Right Surround Ch. 7 - Stereo English Left Ch. 8 - Stereo English Right Ch. 9 - Unassigned Ch Unassigned Page 3

4 NOTE: If the 5.1 English mix is delivered on the source material as a Dolby E pair, it must be decoded via a Dolby E decoder, and the discrete channels configured onto the air copy as detailed above. 5 CLOSED CAPTIONED FILES: For vendors who create and deliver corresponding closed captioned files along with the Unfinished Master files, the following specifications must be followed in the creation of CC files: File Format:.cap Cheetah only - NCI and CaptionMaker will not be accepted Frame Rate: Timecode Type: Drop-Frame Starting Timecode: 01:00:00:00 Style: Pop-on NOTE: If you are using MacCaption to create your.cap Cheetah closed captioned files, there is a known bug in some versions older than 5.3. Therefore, only MacCaption cc files made from version 5.3 or newer will be accepted. FILE NAMING NOTE: No spaces are allowed within the filename. In addition to spaces, the following characters are illegal within filenames:? # / ( ) % *, & : Files Delivered via Media Monorail: Unfinished Master File All Unfinished Master files delivered via the Media Monorail upload/transfer tool are to adhere to the following naming convention: programtitle_episodenumber_elementtype_filetype_videostandard_housenumber.mov pgoodluckcharli_ef _tum_h923153_fprhq_v720p59.94.mov Closed Captioned File All closed captioned files delivered via the Media Monorail upload/transfer tool are to adhere to the following naming convention: programtitle_episodenumber_elementtype_housenumber.cap pgoodluckcharli_ef _tcap_h cap Page 5

6 Files Delivered on Hard Drive: NOTE: Although Media Monorail delivery is the mandated method for delivering files to our Digital Library, there may be times when it is necessary to deliver the files on hard drives. Such a scenario will require a shorter filename for the files.
