1 HOW TO APPLY TO THE UNIVERSITY OF CALGARY IFP PRE-ADMISSION ROUTE The following are step-by-step instructions on how to apply to the University of Calgary for the first time. If you already have a University of Calgary username and password, skip to step 8a. If you have any questions or problems with the application, please contact the International Foundations Program by ifp@ucalgary.ca or by telephone at If you start an application, you can always save your progress and come back to it later by signing back on to your UCalgary account. *Note: There are 2 sections to this guide How to Apply to the IFP Pre-Admission Route (pages 1-43); and How to Check Your Application Status and Pay Your Language Assessment Fee (pages 44-62). 1. Go to Page 1

2 2. Click on Future Students Page 2

3 3. Click on Undergraduate Then click on How to apply Page 3

4 4. Scroll down to: Apply online *Note: You will apply for IFP Pre-Admission through the Open Studies route. Click on Open Studies Click on I m ready to apply Page 4

5 5. Click on Create an eid Page 5

6 6. An eid will be your user name when you sign into your University of Calgary account. 1. When creating your eid, it should be your firstname.lastname (i.e. mary.smith). If this does not work, use a 2 after your first name (i.e. mary2.smith). 2. You won t have a UCID number yet so click on I don t have a UCID and wish to register a guest account. 3. Fill in your Last Name, Birth date and address. Page 6

7 1. Create a password for your UCalgary account. 2. Create Recovery Questions and Answers for your Password. 3. When finished, click on Continue Page 7

8 7. Your account registration will show confirmed. Click on the here to sign onto your new University of Calgary account. Page 8

9 8. Sign into your new myuofc account using the eid (username) that you just created (your firstname.lastname) and your password. Page 9

10 8 a. To log on to your University of Calgary account in the future, go to the University of Calgary s home page ( then click on the down arrow and select My UCalgary. Page 10

11 9. To create a New Application click on Create a New Application Page 11

12 10. Select when you want to start studying. There are three `Terms each year for the `IFP Bridging Pre-Admission courses:- Fall Term - September to December Winter Term - January to April Spring/Summer Term - May to August Please select Fall Term should you decide to start IFP Courses in September. Please select Winter Term should you decide to start IFP Courses in January. Please select Spring Term should you decide to start IFP Courses in May. (You cannot start in the Summer Term) *Note: Make sure you select the correct term for your desired program as the application fee is non-refundable. Click on Create Page 12

13 11. Read through the information. Click on the box beside I have read this page Click on Save & Continue Page 13

14 12. Fill in your information. You do not have to fill in the Alberta Student Number or Social Insurance Number if you do not have one. Leave blank. Page 14

15 13. Fill in your current mailing address. Click on Same as above if your permanent address is the same as your mailing address. Click on Save & Continue Page 15

16 14. Fill in your address and phone number then click on Save & Continue Page 16

17 15. Fill in your Citizenship and Immigration information and select Student Permit (you can apply for it while you gain University of Calgary acceptance). Click on Save & Continue **Note: you can still apply if you do not yet have a study permit select Other and type will apply. Page 17

18 16. Answer High School questions and add in information about your High School. Add all High Schools you have attended. Click on Save Page 18

19 17. Add in the name of any Post-Secondary schools you have attended. Click on Save & Continue Page 19

20 18. Now you need to select your program. Click on New Program Click on Save & Continue Page 20

21 19. Choose the Open Studies Non-Degree Holder unless you have obtained a degree in Canada then choose Open Studies Degree Holder Page 21

22 20. You will have to confirm your selection. Click on Open Studies Non-Degree Holder Page 22

23 21. Confirm your selections then click on Save & Continue Page 23

24 22. Review the information to make sure it is correct. Click on Save & Continue Page 24

25 23. There are no program-specific questions for you to answer so click on Save & Continue Page 25

26 24. Click on the box indicating that you understand the English Language Proficiency requirements must be met before admission. Click on Save & Continue Note: Since you are applying to IFP, your application will still be processed despite not meeting the University of Calgary English Language Proficiency requirements. 27 25. Review your application status to ensure all sections are complete. If any sections indicate Incomplete, use the Go Back button to fill in the missing information. Once all sections say Complete, click on Continue Page 27

28 26. Review your application information is complete. If any sections are incorrect, use the Go Back button to correct the information. If all sections are correct, click on Continue Page 28

29 27. Review the Application Declaration and Payment information. Click on the box indicating you have read it. Page 29

30 28. The total amount owing for the non-refundable application fee in Canadian dollars will be indicated. Select the option indicating how you are going to pay. IFP recommends paying by credit card or international funds transfer. Page 30

31 29. Pay your application fee: *Note: You should pay your application fee as soon as possible. Your application will not begin to be processed until the fee is paid. If you choose to pay by credit card, a screen will appear asking for your credit card information. Fill in your credit card information to pay. If you choose to pay by online banking, international funds transfer, cheque, money order, bank draft, or wire transfer, a screen will appear asking for you to check a box indicating you understand your application will not be processed until the fee is received by the deadline date (see screen shot below). Check the box. Then click on Submit Page 31

32 30. Review the information on finalizing your application. Note the deadlines indicated when transcripts are due. Click on Exit Page 32

33 31. You have finished creating your application. Click on Logout Page 33

34 32. To initiate the review of your application, all IFP applicants MUST the following advising you have submitted an application for IFP Pre- Admission to: the admissions office attention: Marni Fieldberg at and the IFP Office at: Page 34

Scan and unofficial transcripts as an attachment for initial evaluation purposes to: the admissions office attention: Marni Fieldberg at the IFP Office at: If admitted you must arrange for your school to send official transcripts directly to the to the University of Calgary admissions office. Mailing Address: Admissions and Recruitment MB 117, 2500 University Drive NW Calgary, Alberta T2N 1N4 Canada *Important: Documents which are in a language other than English must be submitted in the original language as well as with English translations prepared by a certified translator. Documents must indicate the courses studied and the grades obtained in each course. Page 35

36 34. For current application and document deadline dates go to Future Students Documents Page 36

37 35. The address you provided will be used to communicate with you. You will receive the following by a confirmation of receipt of your application your University of Calgary ID number reminders of important dates Page 37

38 36. You will need to link your UCID number that you received in your to your eid (username) in order to log in to the My UofC to view your application status. Sign into your new myuofc account using the username that you created (your firstname.lastname) and your password. Page 38

39 37. Click on go to account dashboard, and select Link another UCID I have Page 39

40 38. Click on I cannot access my account Page 40

41 39. Scroll down to UCID Numbers Click on Link another UCID number I have Page 41

42 40. Enter your UCID Number Enter your Last Name Click on Link Page 42

43 41. An will be sent to you. Click on the link for confirmation. You will be directed to another confirmation page verifying the link. Click on Yes, link UCID You may now log in to your account. Page 43

44 Check your application status and pay your fees. *Note: IFP Bridging Pre-Admission students are required to pay a one-time non-refundable $250 CAD language assessment fee due prior to beginning your IFP courses. Page 44

45 Check the status of your application 1. Go to ucalgary.ca Page 45

46 2. Click on the Down Arrow at the top of the page Page 46

47 3. Click on My UCalgary Page 47

48 4. Sign in using the University of Calgary username and password you created to submit your application. Page 48

49 5. Your My UofC account will appear: Page 49

50 6. Scroll down to your Student Centre - Admissions. Page 50

51 6a. Your Status may show one of the following symbols: See Status this means a decision is still being made or there may be something further for you to do. Complete your application is complete. A decision is pending. Admitted your application has been approved. Payment of the $250 language assessment fee is due. Cancelled your application has been cancelled either by you or because you have not been accepted for admittance. Page 51

52 7. Under Finances select Account Inquiry Page 52

53 8. You will see what amounts you have paid and what is due. Note: you may see EAP fee this is the Language Assessment fee. If you have a balance owing, this is the amount to be paid. Page 53

54 9. To pay your fees: a. Online banking is the preferred method of payment if you have a Canadian bank account b. International Funds Transfer is the most efficient payment process if you do not have a Canadian bank account Page 54
