Tutors Guide to the Platform Log on to the platform with your codes. This will give you access to the course contents, the internal mail system and the administration side of the courses. This is the page you will see when you log on: Course contents In order to get into the course contents, click on My courses, and then on course and the unit or module link. You will see exactly what the students see once you are inside the course.
Tutor profile You need to create a tutor profile which includes a photo of you and some text about yourself. This will be visible to your students. Do do this click on My profile: Upload a photo from your computer and include your text they click on save. If you want to change anything, click on edit. My documents In my documents you will find the corresponding tutor manuals for the courses that you have access to. My resources The link to My resources displays the resources that your students have access to (students have the same link).
Mail program To get into the internal mail program, click on the mail link The link will display a number in a round circle to indicate the number of new messages you have.
If you click on the mail link, you will open up the mail program: If you click on the View unread mail tab, all unread mail will appear in the box on the right. If you have no unread mail, you will see the message You have no mail. Your students will be organised in course and level folders. To see them, click on the level e.g. Pre-Advanced. You will then see all your students in the Pre-Advanced level, both part A and part B. All mail to and from the student will be saved together in chronological order in each student's folder. Click on a mail to open it and read it. You can send a mail to a student by clicking on the pencil and paper icon or on the student s name in the level folder (top left-hand window). This will open up a window like this:
You can then write in the subject e.g. Feedback: Unit 1 Tutorial 1 Then you can either include your feedback in the message box or as an attachment. Note that you can only use plain text in the message box so in most cases it will probably be better to send feedback as an attachment in a word document. Then, when the message is ready to send, click on Send. To mail more than one student at a time, you need to select the relevant students by clicking on the boxes at the side of the names of the students. Next click on Send to all selected at the top of the list. This will open a mail message to all of these students. If you want to mail ALL of your students in a group or level, tick the corresponding group or level. You can display the list of students in two ways, either by course or by the group they belong to, e.g. a company or department. Select your choice at the top, under View unread mail.
You will know if a student sends you a mail or tutorial because a number will appear next to the level folder. When you open up the level folder, the number will appear next to the student s name. Every night the mail programme will check for any unread mails from that day and send out a message to the students external informing them that they have unread messages. Recording Tutorial Marks To record your marks, first click on View Registered Users This will open up the following window: Here you can look for a specific student by using the search option or you can see all your students. In order to record the students marks, the simplest way is to check view marksheet and also select Hide other details.
If you select View session, you will also see the time the student has spent on each unit of the course. If you have selected the first two options, scroll down the page and this is what you will see: To record a mark, insert the number in the relevant Unit and Tutorial box and click on apply. The red band will become green to represent the mark. You will also see the results of the students' tests on this page. If you click on "view sessions", you see a summary of the time the student has spent on each unit like this:
To see more specific information click on the Session Details icon (see above). This will display all the dates, times and pages visited. The marks that you put into the system will be viewed by the student in question in graphic representation. You can also view the scores the student is getting for each of the exercises by clicking on the green tick under exercise scores: This will display the following. Exercises are marked as a number out of the total score: You can export information about one student or groups of students into an excel document. This information includes a summary of the time the student has spent on the course, the test and the tutorial results. To do this first display the course you wish to export e.g. General English - Premium (it is not possible to export a report for different types of course at the same time), then click on continue to display the users.
Next click on "create report". This will open up the following window: Leave the settings as are and click on "start" in section 2 "Create report". Once the report has been created you will be given the option to download it and save it as an excel document. The report will include the students' details, tutorial marks awarded, test marks and time spent on the course. To return to the main menu click on back to menu at the top of the page. View what your students are seeing It is possible to view exactly what a particular student sees. To do this, go into "view registered users" and display the students in question on the page using the filters. Note: do not select "Hide other details". Click on the yellow arrow next tot the student whose access you wish to view:
You will then see what the selected students sees: The padlock symbol indicates that although you can click around as if you were the student, you cannot modify anything.
In order to go back to your previous access, click on "Disconnect" and "Switch users".
