2 Operating and installation instructions 2/10 1 Introduction The ICU61 remote control unit is designed for monitoring remote locations and performing simple local control tasks. The locations may be e.g. warehouses, equipment rooms or simple processes. Monitored variables include e.g. temperature, humidity and various ON/OFF states. Four output relays may be controlled, based on the measurements. Configuring and controlling the ICU61 is done with a mobile phone, via SMS messages. The ICU61 notifies about defined events via SMS messages as soon as they appear. The notification may also be forwarded to a defined address, using a GPRS mobile data connection. 2 Starting up 1. Insert the SIM card intended for the ICU61 into a mobile phone. 2. Deactivate the SIM card s PIN code query from the mobile phone settings. 3. Turn off the ICU61 supply voltage and the battery backup voltage (if any). 4. Insert the SIM card into the ICU61 device. 5. Connect the external antenna to the GSM Ant connection. 6. Connect all necessary inputs and outputs. 7. Turn the supply voltage on. You may check the operational readiness by calling to the device SIM number after app. 20 s of power-up. When the call is sounding the alarm, the device is operative. Device front panel 3 Using ICU General The device is controlled by SMS messages, sent from a mobile phone to the device s SIM card number. Lower and upper case letters have the same meaning. Scandinavian and other special characters are not supported. All commands and their parameters in the SMS are separated with a space (in examples: ). All device settings survive any power outages.

3 Operating and installation instructions 3/ DIN number The device only regards SMSs that start with a four-digit DIN number (Device Identification Number). The default DIN is The DIN number must always be placed before the command and separated from it with a space <command> The DIN number may be changed with the command DIN. <DIN> DIN <number> For example, 1234 DIN 9999 changes 9999 as the new DIN number. The device returns a message Parameter saved and the set DIN number. If the setting failed, the return message is Error in input. 3.3 SMS commands SMS control commands are listed below. Detailed explanation in following chapters. Up to two numbers may be stored, with the command <DIN> CHGNR <location> <number> The notification <number> is to be given in the international format. For example 1234 CHGNR , stores the number in memory <location> 1. The notification number is erased by giving the memory location and a blank number. For a successful command, the user receives a response message listing the stored notification numbers. For a failed command, the device responses Error in input. The number may be changed by storing a new number in a previously used location. <DIN> NRS Returns a message listing the currently stored notification numbers.

4 Operating and installation instructions 4/ settings The notification messages may also be received to an address. is sent using GPRS mobile data, which the SIM card has to support. After setting up, the sending should be tested, some mail servers take machine sent mail as spam. To enable sending , at least the receiving address, outgoing mail server (SMTP) and access point name (APN) need to be given to the ICU61. Additionally, sender name may be stored, to discern between several devices sending to the same receiving address. For a successful setup, the response message is Parameter saved, while a failed one returns Error in input. <DIN> RCVR < > This command sets the receiver address, for example 1234 RCVR john.smith@server.com. The address may be up to 40 characters in length. DIN RCVR? queries a previously set receiver address. <DIN> SMTP <server> This command sets the outgoing mail server, for example 1234 SMTP smtp.mailserver.com. The server address may be up to 30 characters in length. DIN SMTP? queries a previously set server address. <DIN> APN <name> This command sets the access point name, for example 1234 APN internet. The name may be up to 20 characters in length. DIN APN? queries a previously set APN. <DIN> SNDR <name> This command sets the sender name, for example 1234 SNDR ICU1. The name may be up to 10 characters in length. DIN SNDR? queries a previously set sender name. A setting is erased by giving a blank parameter after the command. 3.6 Inputs <DIN> ION <inputnr> <name> This command sets the input channel name. The <inputnr> parameter is the input number to be named, from the device casing.the input name is used in the query results and in the rule-triggered SMS notification. The name may be up to 10 characters in length and it may not contain spaces. 5 Operating and installation instructions 5/10 The <state> of output <outputnr> (1-4) may be ON, OFF, AUTO or TEMPCTRL. Forced to ON or OFF, the output can t be controlled by rules and is listed as manual in the response message. An AUTO output is controlled with rules (see chapter 3.9) and a TEMPCTRL output controls a temperature range (see chapter 3.11). return message lists the outputs and their states. A failed command returns Error in input. When starting up for the first time, all outputs are in AUTO state and OFF (state: AUTO, OFF). at this state, they are controllable with the rules. When a rule is true, the output turns ON (state: AUTO, ON). 3.8 Custom notification messages Three custom messages (SMSs) may be stored to the device, and used as rulecontrolled outputs. The message may be 39 characters long and contain spaces. <DIN> SMS <nr> <message> This command stores the <message> to the ICU61. Memory location number is set from 1 to 3. For example 1234 SMS 1 Dryer heating complete stores the message to location number 1. This message may then be used as an output for a notification. For a successful setting, the response message is Parameter saved. The message may also contain a value from one of the inputs with the character & followed by the input number in question, see chapter 3.6. For example 1234 SMS 1 Dryer temp is &16 degrees could return a message Dryer temp is 75,2 degrees, where 75,2 would be the value of input 16 at the time of the event. The character & may not be used in the messages for other purposes than referring to an input value. If an input value is included in the message, the maximum number of characters is 32. If the message contains more than the allowed number of characters, or the memory location is faulty, the response message is Error in input. 3.9 Rules When the notification numbers have been set, rules may be designed. The rules tell the device how to operate when certain conditions are true, for example Send an SMS when Temp1 exceeds + 50 C. Up to 10 simultaneous rules may be set. <DIN> RULE <rulenr> <input> <limit> <output> <value> The rule is stored in the memory location <rulenr> (1 10). 6 Operating and installation instructions 6/10 With the <limit> parameter value 0, the event is triggered when exceeding the <value>, with value 1, when falling below it. The <value> triggering the event is given with one decimal point accuracy. A minus sign (-) precedes a negative value. John doesn t want the temperature in his warehouse to go below zero. He wants to get a notification when the temperature goes below +10 C, to be able to turn on the heating. John connects a temperature sensor to input Temp1, sets a custom message SMS1 and creates a rule that sends him this message, when the warehouse temperature goes below +10 C. <DIN> SMS <nr> <message> 1234 SMS 1 Temperature below 10 degrees <DIN> RULE <rulenr> <input> <limit> <output> <value> 1234 RULE ,0 Limit Output (7 = SMS1) Falling below (1 = Falling below) Input number (0 = Temp1) Rule number II. When not at the warehouse, John wants the heating to turn on automatically, when the temperature is below +5 C. When the temperature reaches +8 C again, the heating may be stopped. He connects the outside temperature sensor to input Temp1, the door switch to In1 and the air curtain to Out2. He uses an AND statement to create the control. First, John creates a rule that defines opening of the door as a component in the AND operation RULE ,0 Limit Output (5 = AND) Exceeding (0 = Exceeding) Input (2 = In1) Rule number Then John defines the outside temperature as a component in the AND operation RULE ,0 Limit Output (5 = AND) Falling below (0 = Falling below) Input (0 = Temp1) Rule number Finally John creates a rule that starts the air curtain, when both of the above rules are true. Only one rule with an AND output may exist at a time RULE ,0 Limit Output (1 = Out2) Exceeding (0 = Exceeding) Input (7 = AND) Rule number 3.10 Hysteresis The hysteresis value defines when the event triggered by a rule is regarded as expired, and the rule-controlled output returns to its inactive state. The default is a 0,5 unit hysteresis (degree or percent), for both exceeding or falling below the limit value. If for example a heater is set to start when the temperature goes below +20 C, it will stop when the temperature has reached +20,5 C. <DIN> HYST <value> This command changes the hysteresis to better fit the needs of the application. The <value> may be between 0,1 25,0, with a one decimal point accuracy. For example, 1234 HYST 2,0 raises the hysteresis to two units. For a successful setup, the

8 Operating and installation instructions 8/10 response message is Parameter saved, while for a failed one it is Error in input HYST? returns the currently set hysteresis Temperature range control <DIN> TEMPCTRL <diff> <llim> <hlim> This command keeps the controlled temperature <diff> degrees higher (0 30 C) than a reference temperature, however always higher than <llim> and lower than <hlim> ( C). The reference temperature must be connected to Temp1 and the controlled temperature to Temp2. In addition to the TEMPCTRL-command, the controlling relay output (1 4) has to be set to TEMPCTRL state (see chapter 3.7). The range control is canceled by setting the output back to some other state Queries <DIN> INPUTS <DIN> OUTPUTS The values or states of all inputs and outputs may be checked with an SMS INPUTS lists the inputs with their respective values, while 1234 OUTPUTS lists all outputs with their respective states. <DIN> SGNL This command returns the signal strength in db and the bit error rate in percent, of the mobile network. The signal strength is between -113 db -50 db, with -50 db being the best value. -90 db is still a good working signal strength. 4 Technical specifications The delivery includes the ICU61 device and this user s guide. 9 Operating and installation instructions 9/10 5 Troubleshooting If you encounter problems in using the ICU61, first check the following list: PROBLEM CAUSE ACTION Device not responding to SMS commands - Device has no power - PIN query enabled on SIM - Missing DIN number - Check the power connection - Disable SIM card PIN query - Include DIN number in command Call to the device not sounding an alarm Getting response Error in input 6 Warranty - SIM card balance exceeded - PIN query enabled on SIM - Operator made network maintenance - Increase balance or renew SIM - Disable SIM card PIN query - Cycle power on the ICU61 - An error in command SMS - Check and resend the command ionsign grants a warranty of two (2) years for all delivered devices. The warranty starts from the day of receiving the device and it covers material and manufacturing defects. The warranty does not cover defects caused by improper use or installation of devices. Further, it does not cover for situations where malfunction is due to third party actions. These would be for instance service changes of mobile network operators or changes in mobile network itself. ionsign delivers a new device to replace a defected one, without cost. Alternatively, ionsign may repair the defected device.
