1 My Profile Page 1

2 An important first step in participating in the Community is to share some basic information about yourself. The way you do that is through creating your profile on My Page. When you click on either the My Page tab or the My Profile link, the Edit My Profile Page appears. We ll now take a look at this page in more detail. My Page sub-tabs section Under the Tabs line, there are four sub-tabs showing the main things you can do in the My Page section we will discuss them in more detail in the following pages. View Profile: you can view your Profile as it currently exists View Blog: you can view your Blog Edit Profile: you can edit the information in your Profile. This is the page you land on when you click the My Page tab. Edit Blog: you can add to and edit your Blog. My Page Search Box section 2

3 The Search box appears in this location on all the Tab pages, except the Home Page. You can enter the word(s) you are searching for in the blank box and then choose which section of the site you want to search from the drop-down box. The choices you can search are All People, All Groups, All Messages, All Libraries, and All Forums. You can also click on the Advanced link see next page. My Page Advanced Search 3

4 On the Advanced Search Page (Search All People) you can construct a more specific search based on a combination of fields. The Advanced Search works only on All People currently. 4

6 Next we will examine the links on the left menu bar, and the pages they link to, in some detail. 6

7 My Page View My Profile This page shows your profile as it currently appears. The Basic Directory Info section contains name and contact information and a link to your Blog. The My Bio section contains personal information that you have entered. Following that is a list of the Groups that you belong to. 7

8 My Page View My Blog A Blog is a little like a newspaper column or a newsletter. It is a place to write things to be shared with others in the Community. Blogs can either be associated with a person, called a Member Blog, or with a Group, called a Group Blog. This link will only appear if you have already created a Member Blog. The most recent posts in your Blog are displayed here. Member Blogs will be covered in more detail in the Edit My Blog section. 8

9 My Page (View My Blog) Archives The Blog Archives lists all your blog posts by month and year. You can click on the the month/year and it will display the blog posts from that time period. 9

10 My Page (Edit My Profile) Change Photo This is the page used to upload or delete a photo for your profile. Click the browse button to locate the photo file you wish to upload. Decide on your preference for your photo Privacy Setting: if you wish your photo to not be visible to search engines and people who are not signed in, leave the checkbox blank, if it is all right with you for it to be visible to search engines and people who are not members of the Community, check the box. Click on Submit and the photo file will be uploaded and the privacy setting set. 10

11 My Page (Edit My Profile) Manage Addresses You may enter up to four real-world addresses: home, business, billing, and PO Box. The first step is to enter one or more of your addresses by clicking on the Add Address button (see next page). Then you return to this page and use the drop-down boxes in the top section to choose which of the addresses you have entered you want to use as the Community Address and which address you want to use as the Official Address. In the example above, Jean Smith has chosen to use her home address as her Official Address and her business address as the Community Address. 11

12 My Page (Edit My Profile) Edit Phone Numbers You can enter up to 5 phone numbers. You may choose to allow each of the numbers to be seen by the Community or to be hidden. 12

13 My Page (Edit My Profile) Edit Addresses This is the page where you add and edit your address(es). One and only one of your addresses is set as the Primary address. The Bounce History refers to times has been sent to the given address and has bounced or been undeliverable. You can also establish the settings for all the Groups you belong to here. For each group, you choose what address the messages to you from that Group should be sent to, and you also decide whether you would like to get the s as individual s or get them as a digest, which means you get them all together in a collection once a day. Or you can elect to not have any of the s sent to you and just read them on the web instead. Jean Smith has chosen to get the s from the Planning Committee sent to her address, but to read the s from Newsletter to Everyone on the web. 13

14 My Page (Edit My Profile) Edit Bio You enter and edit the text you wish displayed in your Bio section on your Profile Page here. 14

15 My Page (Edit My Blog) Add Post Each separate entry on the Blog is called a post. On this page, you can create a post to add to your Member Blog. Enter a title for the post in the Title box, and then enter the text in the box below. The various icons at the top of the Text box are formatting icons; if you hover over each icon, without clicking on it, a label will appear explaining what each one can be used for. You can choose whether to publish the post immediately or save it as a draft. You can also decide whether to allow the Community members to add comments to your Blog and whether you will receive an every time a comment is added. If you have created more than one Category (see next pages) for your Blog, you can choose which Category or Categories to put the post in. 15

16 My Page (Edit My Blog) Edit Posts Here you can search for, edit, and delete posts that you have already published to your Member Blog. You can search for a post(s) by Category, Status (Published, Draft, Deleted), Date, and/or specific words in Search Terms. The posts that match the search criteria will be displayed in a list in the Posts section of the screen. If you wish to mark the post for deletion, just check the box to the left of the post and click on the Delete button or click the red X delete icon next to the post. Deleted posts will still be visible to you on the Edit Posts list, but will not be visible to anyone viewing the Blog. If you wish to edit or change a post, either click on the Title of the post or click on the pencil icon to the right of the post. You will be taken to the Edit Post Page (see next page). 16

17 My Page (Edit My Blog) Edit Posts Edit Post On this page, you can edit a specific post. You can edit/replace any of the text and also change any of the other attributes of the post in the various check boxes. Then click Update to overwrite the old version of the post with the new version. 17

18 My Page (Edit My Blog) Add Category You may create different Categories, or sections, for your Blog. It s a way to put posts on a similar topic all together, so your readers can more easily find the type of post they are interested in. For example, Jean Smith created one Category called Travel Posts, one Category called Books I m Reading, and one Category called Volunteer Work (see next page). You can choose to have the Category you are adding shown on the main page of your Blog, or shown only when the reader clicks on this Category name. 18

19 My Page (Edit My Blog) Edit Categories This page shows all the Categories you have currently created. If you wish to delete a Category, you must first delete any posts in the Category. When a Category has no posts, you may delete it by clicking on the red X delete icon to the right of the Category. If you wish to edit a specific Category, just click on the Category name or click on the pencil icon to the right of the Category. You will be taken to the Edit Category Page (see next page). 19

20 My Page Quick Links section Below the left menu bar is the Quick Links section: List All People takes you to the Community Directory. People Search takes you to the Advanced People Search. Invite Friends takes you to the Invite Friends page. 20

22 Now that we have covered all the links in the left-hand section of this page, next we will look at the sections and links on the right-hand part of the page. 22

23 My Page View My Profile link These links both take you to the View My Profile Page shown earlier. 23

24 My Page Edit Basic Info link These links both take you to the Edit Basic Info Page, shown earlier. 24

25 Edit Main Profile Link Once you click on the Edit My Profile Link and click on Edit Basic Info, you will see a link for the Edit Main Profile area. Clicking on that link will open a separate window that opens up the imis Profile page (see below) so your changes will be written back to the NiUG database. Any items not able to be edited, you may contact members@niug.org and ask them to make the changes. 25

26 My Page Edit Bio link The Edit Bio link in the My Bio section takes you to the same Edit Bio Page, shown earlier, that the link in the left menu bar does. 26

27 My Page Edit Subscription Settings link The Edit Subscription Settings link takes you to the Edit Addresses Page, shown earlier, to manage your subscriptions to your Group s. It is on that page that you can choose whether to receive each Group s s individually, in a digest, or to not receive them at all and just read them on the web. 27
