1 1 Installation and Configuration: Getting Started Registering CounterPoint Overview CounterPoint must be registered before the software can be used. Demonstration versions of the software only require registration if Options are desired. This document explains how to register your CounterPoint software. Types of registration Status Unregistered Demonstration copy Temporary Activation Permanent Activation Description Allows use of Base System features only, with limitations on the information that can be entered Allows use of all Base System features and options, with limitations on the information that can be entered Allows full use of registered software until the expiration date Allows full use of registered software Unregistered When you start an unregistered copy of CounterPoint, the message This is a demonstration copy appears. You may use all features of the CounterPoint Base System, with the following limitations: A maximum of five simultaneous users may access the system A maximum of 75 items may be entered A maximum of 50 customers may be entered EDC authorizations may only be simulated Reports are limited to 10 pages Printed reports and forms include the message for demonstration purposes only NOTE: In order to use CounterPoint Options, you must register the software using System / Registration. (See the Registering your software section on page 3 for more information.) Demonstration copy To register your software as a demonstration copy, select System / Registration, and leave the serial number blank.

2 Installation and Configuration: Getting Started - Registering CounterPoint 2 The restrictions on demonstration software are the same as the restrictions for unregistered software. The difference between unregistered and demonstration software is the availability of options. You may register any or all CounterPoint Options in demonstration software. NOTE: The SQL Connection is not available if CounterPoint is registered as a demonstration copy. NOTE: End of day posting in Point of Sale won t complete if report lengths exceed the demo limit. If you encounter problems running end of day posting in a demo version, you should either post frequently, or specify not to print the problematic reports, using Setup / Point of Sale / Stores / Stores. (See Defining end of day reports in Stores for more information.) Temporary Activation Temporary activation allows you to use the software only until the expiration date indicated. If you don t permanently register your software, it will cease to function on the expiration date. You may register your live software for temporary use without contacting Radiant Systems. A Temporary Activation Form was provided with your CounterPoint software. Use System / Registration to enter your name and address, and the configuration information from the Temporary Activation Form, along with the Temporary Key and expiration date. Permanent Activation To permanently register your software, sign and return the completed Registration Form by mail or fax to Radiant Systems. If you have questions on completing the form, call 800/ and ask for Software Registration. Be sure to retain your completed Registration Form in a safe place so that you have the information available should you need to enter your registration information again (if for some reason you lose the information in your CounterPoint directory). We recommend that you keep this information in the box provided with your CounterPoint manuals, or in some other safe place.

Be sure to enter your company name exactly as it appears on your registration form. 2. Address line 1 3. Address line 4. City 5. State 6. Zip code Enter the company address. Software version This field displays the version of CounterPoint you are running. Operating system This field displays the operating system that this copy of CounterPoint is designed for.

System type Specify the type of system that you are registering: Starter Edition Single site Hub 1-5 remotes Hub 6-25 remotes Hub 26+ remotes Remote store P.O. On-the-Go NOTE: Order Entry is disabled at sites registered as Remote store or P.O. On-the-Go. 8. User count Enter the number of users for this copy of CounterPoint. 9. Serial number Enter your serial number. Leave <blank> for Demonstration, if this is a demonstration copy of CounterPoint. Options code This field displays a code based on the serial number and the Options selected. 10. Temporary key Enter the activation key exactly as shown on the Temporary Activation Form Leave <blank> to skip this field, if you will enter a permanent key instead. Exp Enter the date on which this temporary key expires (listed on the Temporary Activation Form) If you enter the temporary key or expiration date incorrectly, the message Invalid temporary key displays, and you are not allowed to update the registration information for this site. 11. Permanent key Enter the permanent activation key supplied by Radiant when your software is registered. Leave <blank> to skip this field if a permanent key has not yet been obtained. If you enter the permanent key incorrectly, the message Invalid permanent key displays, and you are not allowed to update the registration information for this site. If you enter a temporary key without a permanent key, you must specify a permanent key before the expiration date of the temporary key in order to access the software after that date.

At each Option, press: F1 F2 F3 Up Arrow Page Up Home F5 Down Arrow Page Down End To mark this Option as Registered To register, but disable, this Option To skip this Option, if it isn t registered To move through the Options list When you are through registering Options For demonstration software, all Options may be registered. For temporary or permanent activation, you may register only those Options shown on the Temporary Activation Form. You may disable an Option that you have purchased if you are not yet ready to use the Option and don t want to make it available. Registration information Press Ctrl + P at a completed registration screen, to print a hard copy of your registration information NOTE: You must define at least one printer group before printing the registration screen.
