1 GoChronicle Chronicle Technologies Inc. 1(866) What is this document for? You don t have to be a techno-wizard to start using Chronicle. This document will help get your company set up with the Tierranet hosting and Junk Filter SPAM filtering required for use with Chronicle, just follow these step-by-step instructions. Depending on what services you are already using with your business, the steps will vary. Why use Tierranet? The use of Tierranet for domain and hosting is a requirement. We consider to be mission critical. Chronicle Technologies has a strong working relationship with Tierranet which allows us to resolve support issues with greater efficiency. If Tierranet is an unacceptable alternative for hosting another service may be used, however, after a support incident occurs due to an problem, a support surcharge of $25 per month will be added to cover additional support requirements. Some solutions (such as GoDaddy.com) will not be supported by Chronicle Technologies under any circumstances. Where do I start? You know your company better than anyone. Start by reading the three scenarios described below and then choose the one that most closely fits your situation (the fit may not be exact). If you have any questions regarding these guidelines, please contact Chronicle Support by calling (866) or us at support@gochronicle.com.
2 Which scenario best fits your business? Scenario 1 Starting from scratch - I have a new business I do not have hosting I do not have a domain I do not have a website I do not have Junk Filter for SPAM filtering Scenario 2 Transfer all services to Tierranet I have hosting I have a domain name I may have a website I want to move all my services ( , domain, etc) to Tierranet Scenario 3 Transfer minimum services to Tierranet I have hosting I have a domain name I may have a website I want to move some of my services to Tierranet, but not all of them. Does this sound like you? Go to step 1.1 Does this sound like you? Jump to step 2.1 Does this sound like you? Jump to step Open your Tierranet account Scenario 1 Go to Tierranet s website ( and click the link that says create account in the upper-right hand corner of the website. Fill out the account creation forms with the required information, then click continue. Once your account is created you will have access to the Account Services page. 1.2 Purchase a domain name Once your Tierranet account is created, you will need to purchase your domain name. You can begin the domain purchasing process from your Account Services page. Scroll down until you find the Get Your Domain button. Click here to begin the process of purchasing your new domain name.
3 Enter the domain name you would like to use into the white box and select the type (.com,.net etc.), then click search. You may have to do several searches to find an available name. Check the box(es) for the domain(s) you want to buy. The domain name you pick should say available next to it. Once you ve picked your domain name, jump down to the last part of the page. Here you need to choose the registration term. (Note: the price will change depending on how long you want to own the name.) The legal owner is the person that has ownership rights to the domain name and is usually also the owner of the business. Leave the optional nameserver boxes blank. All done? If you are ready, click add to basket button to go to the shopping cart and confirm the purchase for your new domain. 1.3 Configure for Chronicle
4 With your domain name in hand, it s now time to set up the Tierranet for Chronicle. From the other products menu, select only hosting. The Only Hosting is the standard package used by companies with Chronicle, at $4.95 a month. Click sign up to proceed. Package You will need to choose the hosting service package. Select the Only package then click, add. You have now signed up for hosting with Tierranet. Next the the hosting plan and your domain name need to be tied together. Enter your domain name into the field and click, add service. Add a mailbox Go to the > services page to add a mailbox. In the dropdown menu on the right, select Mailbox (included) and click add. Create Global catchall mailbox This mailbox will become the global (or catchall ) mailbox for all you recieve. Give the mailbox a basic name (like mailbox). Enter a password for the box (we recommend keeping this information handy, since it will be important later in the setup process) and then click, create.
5 Now that you have a global catchall mailbox, you need to add a Global Forward to that global mailbox. This makes it so all your ends up in one spot, so Chronicle can grab it. Global Forward On the Services page, select global forward from the drop down menu and click add. Your domain name should already be selected, so just add the name of the global mailbox we just created in the destination field, then click create. Next, we will connect your Tierranet account to Chronicle. 1.4 Adding Tierranet information to Chronicle Now that the is set up with Tierranet, you need to put the new settings into Chronicle so you can begin using your . Where do I find the settings I need? In order for your Tierranet to work with Chronicle, you need to provide Chronicle with a little information. Go to and log into your Tierranet account. On the left side of the Configuring Your Software page, click the link general config info. This page contains the information needed to complete the setup in Chronicle. Where do I go in Chronicle? Go to the Home tab in Chronicle and open the Main System Setup (if the Main System Setup is not visible, you will need to add it from the Edit Tools menu). Enter the information into the fields on the General Settings tab, as shown below.
6 When you are done, close the Main System Setup by clicking the x in the upper-right hand corner to save the new settings. How do I know if the is working? Send an to test @gochronicle.com to test the settings you entered. This will test both incoming and outgoing mail servers. If everything is working correctly, you should receive an auto-reply response within minutes. 1.5 Junk Filter setup What is Junk Filter? Junk Filter is a SPAM filtering service. All of your is sent through their filtering system before it
7 reaches you, pulling out all unsolicited, junk s. Why Junk filter? Junk Filter is an effective, reliable, and reasonably priced SPAM filtering service. We use this service ourselves and receive virtually no SPAM. In addition, our support team is familiar with Junk Filter. For these reasons Junk Filter is a requirement for Chronicle. Getting started open an account Go to and go to the Order Service page, which provides information about ordering. For your convenience, we have created the included template to help you open your account. Simply fill out the template and it to sales@junk filter.com. (If needed, you can contact support@gochronicle.com to have a copy of the template ed to you.) 1.6 Web hosting information (optional) From Tierranet s homepage ( go to their Hosting page for more information on their web hosting options. Junk Filter Template Dear Junk Filter.com, I am a customer of Chronicle Technologies and I would like to open a Junk Filter account for my business. Chronicle Technologies has provided us with the MX records for Junk Filter.com and we have already given these to our provider. Below is the information you need to get this process started, but please let me know if you need anything further. Thank you, [Name] Domain Name:
8 Customer Information Company name: [Your company s name] Company address: [Your company s address] Company phone number: [Your company s phone number] Primary Contact Information Contact name: [Your name] Contact address: [Your address] Contact phone number: [Your phone number] Provider s (Tierranet s) MX Records mx1.daemonmail.net - priority: 10 mx2.daemonmail.net - priority: Open your Tierranet account See step Transfer your domain to Tierranet Transfer Requirements Not all domains can be transferred. Your domain must be Active (not expired) and not registered or renewed within the last 60 days. It is important to note that a domain transfer can take 5-7 days to go through. Transfer Your Domain Scenario 2
9 From Tierranet s homepage, click transfers to begin the process. Alternatively, you can call Tierranet s customer support to start the domain transfer. Transferring your domain acts as a domain renewal. You will need to make sure that your domain is available and choose how many years you want to transfer the domain for. For more detailed steps, see Initiate Transfer Request in the Tierranet Help (support.tierra.net). This article is found by opening the Domain topic and then expanding the Transfer your domain to us sub-topic. 2.3 Switch hosting to Tierranet Transferring the involves creating a mailbox at Tierranet to replace the one you are currently using. See step 1.3 to set up the Tierranet box for Chronicle. Once the domain transfer is completed, follow the instructions in step 1.4 to use the Tierranet with Chronicle. Cancelling your old hosting will complete the transfer. 2.4 Junk filter setup See step Switch website hosting Move your website to Tierranet. Does this even apply to me? Don t have a website and don t want to get one right now? Then you re all set. If, however, you do have a website to switch over - or if you are looking to start one at Tierranet - you will need to purchase a hosting package from Tierranet to replace your current hosting plan. See step 1.6 for additional information. 3.0 Scenario 3 This scenario involves three main parts: the company where your domain is currently registered, Tierranet, and Junk Filter. Since the domain is not being transferred to Tierranet we have to point the domain to send the to Junk Filter and then, after the SPAM has been filtered out, have Junk Filter send the to your Tierranet mailbox so Chronicle can download it. 3.1 Open your Tierranet account See step Junk filter setup See step 1.5
10 3.3 Tierranet setup See step 1.3 to set up the Tierranet box for Chronicle. 3.4 Change the MX records Now that all of the needed accounts are in place, we need to tell the how to travel through these accounts so that it reaches the global catchall mailbox Chronicle has access to. To do this you will need to change the MX records. At your domain registrar you need to enter the following MX records, to point the to Junk Filter: Junk Filter MX Records dummy0.junk filter.com - 10 mx.junk filter.com - 20 mx.junk filter.net - 30 mx.junk filter.org - 40 dummy1.junk filter.com 50 Next you need to provide Junk Filter with the MX records below (also included in our template ) so they can send your on to Tierranet: Tierranet MX Records mx1.daemonmail.net - priority: 10 mx2.daemonmail.net - priority: Complete the setup in Chronicle After you have completed steps , your should be correctly set up. All that remains is to tell Chronicle to start looking in the catchall Tierranet mailbox for . Follow the instructions in step 1.4 to start using the Tierranet with Chronicle.
