2 Preface What is a Knowledge Map? A Knowledge Map is a representation of a concept using levels of information. Each level provides deeper understanding than the previous one. The emphasis is on gaining the maximum understanding in the shortest possible time. Why Knowledge Map for Tally.ERP 9? Tally.ERP 9 is one of the most widely used financial software that has extended capabilities and great potential to transform a business. Many areas of Tally, when implemented, actually translate to increased efficiency, reduced costs, and organised business operations. This Knowledge Map has been created to help readers gain an immediate understanding of the key areas of expertise; such an understanding can bring about positive impact on your business. 3 Structure of the Knowledge Map for Tally.ERP 9 The Knowledge Map is layered as shown below, with each layer zooming in on each key area. Homepage (Level 1) The Homepage consists of the key areas. Clicking on any of these topics will take you to the page containing pictorial representation of the key functionalities of that key area. Image Trigger (Level 2) Level 2 provides a pictorial overview of the key areas. The purpose of pictorial representation is to act as triggers, to help you remember the basics of the topic under discussion. The images will lead you to Level 3 when clicked. Functionality (Level 3) Level 3 contains a brief explanation of the main functionality of the key area of interest. For example, Banking is one of the key areas, and the main functionalities are: Multiple Instrument Support Multi Cheque Printing Deposit Slips Payment Advices Bank Reconciliation Opening BRS A brief introduction on banking functionalities in Tally.ERP 9 will be given here. Tally.ERP 9 provides various categories of messages, for your numerous requirements, from within your product. Update Messages: The updates about the latest release of Product, Stat and Extensions will be sent to you Renewals: Tally Solutions pro-actively informs you the date of renewal also simplifies your renewal process by providing the detailed procedure along with the current price of your Tally.NET Subscription Tally Tips: Tally Tips makes sure that you do not find any difficulty in your Tally.ERP 9 usage and ensures that you use each feature in a very effective manner Tally News: Tally News ensures that you are informed about the latest happenings, webinars and events conducted by Tally Solutions Tally Events: Users will be informed of events organised for them by Tally Solutions Others: Any other mails fall under this category. Help Files and release notes for the Updates can be downloaded from the same screen. Messages are grouped into categories, so users can filter based on them. HOW TO Go to Gateway of Tally > F12: Configuration > Message Centre Or Click on the Message Icon in the Version column of the Information Panel. Live Updates BENEFITS All the latest updates for product and stat are all downloaded automatically and ready for installation. Tally.NET subscriptions renewed from the Products & feature screen of Live Updates. Managing Add-ons, Tally Extensions, Tally.NET Subscription, and TDLs can be all maintained from one place. FEATURES All the Releases that were used and the latest release information is available. Product and Stat Updates can be installed with a click of a button. They maintain their books of accounts using Tally.ERP 9, Release 3.4. To remain informed about the latest news from Tally and for the latest releases they had to check their mails or go to the Tally website. Tally.ERP 9 Release 3.6, gives you the advantage of staying up-to-date with the latest News and updates about Tally from within Tally.ERP 9, with the help of two new features; Message Centre and Live Updates. Message Centre All the Mails from Tally Solutions are made accessible from with the product itself. Messages about Product and Stat updates will be sent to you, instead of you having to go check the Internet for them. Renewal Messages for your Tally.NET subscription will also be sent to message Centre. Tally will also send Tally Tips messages to you. Live Updates The latest Updates will be downloaded and ready for installation. Live Updates lets you try a new release of Tally.ERP 9 before installation. 9 FAQs 1. Can I block/stop receiving messages of a particular category? Yes, you can unsubscribe to a particular category of message to stop receiving message of that category. Following is the steps to unsubscribe: From the Message Centre dashboard; Press F10: Subscribe, and say No to the category of messages you do not wish to receive. 2. Can I select multiple messages and delete them? No. Multiple selection option is not available in the Message Centre; hence the user can delete only one message at a time. 3. Will I receive message only if I have a valid Tally.NET subscription? You will receive messages irrespective of the status of the Tally.NET subscription. Note: Message centre is not active in releases below Release Can I restrict some messages from some users in a multi user environment? No. Currently in a multi user environment, all the messages are visible to all the users. 5. Can I install multiple releases in a multi user environment using the Product and Feature option in Tally? Product & Features does not support multiple releases. It currently installs the new release uniformly across all the client systems. If the user wants to maintain multiple releases, then he will have to follow the manual process of installation. 6. Can I roll back to an old release from the Product and features? Yes. You roll back to an old release. Following are the steps: Go to Gateway of tally > F12: Configuration > Product and Features Click on R: List Releases (Alt+R) Choose the release to which you want to roll back 7. Can I test the new release before installing it? Yes. You can test the new release before installing it. Follow the below steps: Go to Gateway of tally > F12: Configuration > Product and Features Select the new release > Click on T: Try Now (Alt + T) Enter the Path where you want to install the release and select the company data on which you want to try the new release.
