1 Q. What are we gaining by switching to Fiberoptic/why should we do it? A. The Cat 5 cable used by Hotwire and others who deal in mixed fiber and copper networks is designed to work with the kind of high speed ethernet that fiber provides. So little is lost by the short range use of Cat 5 within the home. Also, few devices currently exist which can support a direct fiber connection. At some point the fiber has to transition to a Cat 5 cable and connector. What we are really gaining is a much superior signal being consistently delivered to the home. Our current infrastructure of copper from curbside box to the home involves distances of 300 to 500 feet on average. The curbside boxes are connected in a daisy chain fashion with distances between the boxes being as great as 300 feet or more. From the node, which is serviced by fiber, the signal to your home is traveling more than a thousand feet over copper. Copper cannot maintain signal strength or integrity over those distances. So before the signal even enters your home it is degraded. With fiber to the home, the signal quality received at the home and transferred to Cat 5 within your home will provide a signal far stronger and clearer than anything currently being experienced. Q. I have a Comcast account and stored s. What happens to my account and all my s if we switch to Hotwire? A. If a resident has a Comcast address, they can keep the address even after disconnecting service with them. If you go to the Comcast website and to their frequently asked questions section, you will see how you can retain your account even after disconnecting and moving to Hotwire. This is the easiest way to transition to Hotwire and not have to worry about changing addresses. There are various ways to back up s for personal and business use. It is recommended you seek the advice of someone familiar with backing up s and networks for businesses and/or personal use. Q. I currently have streaming on my mobile devices, tablets and computers from Xfinity as well as the ability to access my account information and customer service. Does Hotwire offer something comparable? A. The answer is yes, residents have the ability to access account info and customer services. Page 1 of 5

2 Please see the attached (Fision Apps Overview) document regarding Hotwire current AP features. It does include the ability to stream on mobile devices. They currently have 120 networks available for streaming. This App will launch in 30 to 45 days, well before the contract start date with Hotwire. Q. What will happen to all the programs I have stored in my DVRs if we switch to Hotwire? Will they all be lost? A. DVR s with Comcast would be returned to Comcast thus the stored programming would be lost. Not to confuse things, even though after we install service the resident would no longer be connected to Comcast service, they could always keep their DVR plugged into a different input on their TV for a few weeks (before returning the box to Comcast) and continue to watch the stored programming. In this scenario, our DVR would be connected and would be recording programming and the Comcast DVR would not be connected to any service provider, but would still be able to play programming. This is an interim solution for residents who are concerned Q.. Can HOTWIRE provide any guarantees as to internet speed and speed based on personal usage (meaning does the internet speed decrease based on the number of devices streaming at one time and if so, how much)? A.Hotwire is designing a dedicated network throughout the community with fiber into each home. The Internet bandwidth that we are delivering to each home is dedicated and no shared. If a resident has 100Mbps of Internet speed (for example), they would receive that speed 24/7/365. It is not a shared service with other residents in the community and that speed would not decrease based on the amount of devices connected throughout the community. Q. Does Hotwire have a similar App to Comcast/Xfinity to compose and read s? A. Hotwire does have a portal for residents to use in order to access and send . Hotwire s current AP does not support but it is in the engineering plan for release. Hotwire does offer addresses. However, Hotwire always encourage residents to select a non-provider specific address (Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook etc.). There is no reason to have an tied to a specific service provider. Page 2 of 5

3 Q. How will the fiber be brought into my home and once there, what can I expect with the wiring inside my home? A. There definitely seems to be confusion regarding how Hotwire installs service throughout the home. The following is an overview of the actions taken during the overall installation process from construction (bringing the fiber to the home) through full activation of service within the home. 1.Fiber is constructed throughout the community. Fiber is placed 24 deep for the main fiber network throughout the property and then placed 12 deep to the side of each home/building. 2. Fiber is pulled into each home and terminated in a central location (most likely where the current central location exists today). This central location is where Comcast current connects to all of the wires in the home to deliver their service. This can be in a garage, laundry room, back bedroom etc.). 3. Activation of service within the home: a) Video Video service is delivered three different ways throughout the home. Our installations are custom and each residents in-home installation may be different from the next based on what the residents wants. The statement when required regarding cabling, means that some residents will want Cat 5 cable run so that the set-top box can be directly connected whereas some residents will not want cabling run and would instead use a wireless set-top box. This is just one example whereas cabling may not be required based on the residents personal decision. *Video Delivery Method #1 Video is delivered via set-top boxes being directly connected via new Cat 5 cabling that we would install. **Video Delivery Method #2 Video is delivered via wireless set-top boxes. No cabling would be required. ***Video Delivery Method #3 Hotwire s plug and play Expanded Basic video line-up is delivered via the existing in-home coax cabling. TV s plug directly from the coax connection in the wall to the back of the TV without a set-top box. This is another example of when required for new cabling to be run. b) Internet Hotwire would install a new Cat 5 cable for each resident to a central location in the home so that they can directly connect to our Internet service. Of course, if Hotwire is providing a wireless router as part of their offer (which they are as a part of the bulk package) some residents don t require the cable to be run and simply connect their laptop/phone/tv etc. wirelessly. This is how it is done in many homes today, nothing is directly connected to the Internet. This is another example of when required for cabling. c) Phone Phone service would be delivered (if a resident chooses phone from Comcast as it is not in the bulk offer) via the same phone wiring and jacks that exist in the home today. 4 The only time invisible wire or white cable around the baseboard method would be used is upon resident request. An example is: if the central location in the home is not in a good place for the resident (if they simply do not like the location where it is today and want it moved). This would be implemented only at the resident s request since there are many other ways to connect. Hotwire will be surveying several units next week to determine a plan for wiring and to investigate anything that may need to be dealt with beforehand. Q. What happens if I have signed a Contract with Comcast for long term service? A. Most residents are able to terminate their agreement for additional services with Comcast at any time. If anyone has a signed, long term contract with Comcast that will not end until after June 2018 the board will need to be advised and will need to have a copy of the contract so it can be reviewed. The contracts should be for your RESIDENTIAL service and not for any business you may be operating out of your home. Q. Will we have any interruption in services during the transition from Comcast/Xfinity to Hotwire with respect to rewiring in the community and individual condo cable outlets? Hotwire will have all unit owners up and running prior to the termination of Comcast/Xfinity service in June of There will be no interruption of services. Q. What communities in our area have Hotwire services and how long have then been consumers? Please refer to the Page 5 of the Hotwire Proposal that was sent through the Sentinel and titled Market Expansion which provides a list of communities. Q. I have seen negative reviews about Hotwire, has the board taken these reviews into account? YES. Hotwire addressed the negative reviews at the meeting. We have a very detailed explanation that I will try to abbreviate, however, if anyone would like to have a copy, I am happy to send it to you by . Yelp, which is the website that published the negative comments, allows people to post negative comments about a business and in return, the business has to pay them to respond to the negative comments. Hotwire takes a position of not paying websites to post responses to any negative comments written about them. Page 4 of 5

5 The vast majority of the negative comments (99%) are not in Southwest Florida and they are not in fiber to the home communities which is what is being proposed to our community. A few years ago, Hotwire purchased a bankrupt company called Connexion Technologies headquartered in Cary NC and had approximately 50 properties in Florida that Hotwire acquired through the purchased. The company provided satellite tv through dish services and only provided 3Mbps Downloads and 3 Mbps Uploads which is not sufficient for the demands of today s increase in bandwith. People were upset when they could not get the picture quality and internet speed with the outdated system. Our community is not receiving these types of services mentioned above and the committee has called and talked with people in our area who currently have these services and they were all very happy with the products. We also discussed at the meeting another negative website that had pissedconsumer in its name (my apologies if this is offensive to you) but you can guess by the name, there are not going to be any good reviews on this site. We also discussed what happens when you look at the reviews for Comcast from similar websites. You can try it for yourself and the results will be similar. Q. Does the entire community vote on the contract for cable television or is it just the Master Board? The vote on this issue is a Board vote not a community vote like the gate issue. Page 5 of 5
