1 Instructions for Free Padlet Accounts *Developed by Kathleen Beardsell for ISLT 9485 (*Padlet offers additional features for their Padlet Backpack, Padlet Briefcase, and Padlet Jetpack premium plans. To find out more about these features visit Padlet is a free online mindtool that can be used for creation, presentation, and collaboration. Padlet affords virtual walls where you can place media for projects that others may view and edit. Privacy settings for Padet include those similar to Google Docs and other web based tools: private, password protected, hidden link, and public. You can also invite people to your Padlet by entering their address and Padlet will send them a link. You can designate whether your invitees have permissions to view, write, or moderate your Padlet. Registering for a Padlet account is easy. Let s get started! Registration: 1. Go to the web address 2. Click the round Sign up for FREE button on the center of the Padlet.com page. 3. You may sign up for Padlet in one of three ways: a. SIGN UP WITH GOOGLE by entering your Gmail identification and password b. SIGN UP WITH FACEBOOK by entering your Facebook identification and password c. Enter your valid address and a unique password. Passwords must be between 6 and 128 characters long Next, click the square SIGN UP button on the lower right. Once you have registered you will need to confirm your address by opening the clicking on the initial from Padlet and clicking on the provided link. Make a Padlet Initial Wall Set-Up: 1. Login to your Padlet account. Upon login, you will be on the page
2 2. Dashboard is displays the primary navigation menu for Padlet. Padlet has the following dashboard options: Dashboard shows all recent account activity Padlets shows all Padlets that you own Activity shows all contributor activity Attachments shows all attachments Collaborators shows all collaborators Settings shows settings for avatar, name, , username, language, and role 3. Click on the button on the top right corner of this dashboard page. 4. On the right side of your screen, you will see a field to enter the Title of your Padlet. This can be easily changed at anytime. You can always return to the Modify Padlet Menu options by clicking on the symbol on the top of your screen. On the right side of your screen, you will see a field to enter a brief Description of your Padlet. 5. Beneath the Title and Description field you will see three visual choices for Layout:
3 Choose a layout that is optimal for the type of media that you will be presenting. This can easily be changed later. 6. Finally, below Layout, you will see choice for Wallpaper. You can click one of 56 free wallpapers in the Padlet gallery, or add your own photo. Initially, Padlet will display only four wallpaper choices, but you may open the entire gallery by clicking on the button on the bottom right. You can add your own photo, in one of three ways: a. Copy and paste a web link in the From the Web field b. Click the button to upload a photo or simply drag and drop an image from your device into the From your device field. c. Take a photo from your web cam. Once your image has uploaded, you may preview the image. Padlet will prompt Looks good? If your image has been uploaded correctly, you may click the pink the far top right to add your wallpaper selection to your wall. button on 7. Below the Wallpaper selection choices you will find the Icon choices. Similar to Wallpaper, four icons are initially displayed, but you may choose among 54 icons by clicking to symbolize the content of your Padlet. If you do not wish to select an icon, you may simply click the null symbol (first option). You may also add your own icon
4 by clicking adding your own photo (See Step 6).. Steps for adding your own icon are identical to steps for 8. Below the Icon options, you will find Posting options. Slide the grey circles to the right by clicking to change Attribution and Comments settings. After the circle is clicked it will turn yellow and slide right. To switch back to the original setting, click the yellow circle. Upon clicking the yellow circle will turn grey again and slide left. To display the author name above each post click the grey circle under Attribution. To allow viewers to comment on posts click the grey circle under Comments. 9. Beneath Posting options, you will find Tags options where you may enter both letters and numbers (up to 15 characters) to associate three tags with your Padlet that will aid
5 others in searching for Padlets on these topics. Tags can also help you search for your own Padlet internally. 10. Lastly, beneath Tags options you will find an Address field. Here, you may assign a unique address for your Padlet. Padlet requires that the root of this address be followed by your user name, but you may attach a unique identifier of up to 50 characters following your user name. If you do not assign your own identifier, Padlet will generate a random mix of numbers and letters as the final portion of your Padlet address. 11. After you have set up your Padlet, click the button in the top right corner. This will bring you to the People and Privacy menu options. You can come back to the People and Privacy menu options at anytime by clicking the share button. Padlet s privacy options are as follows:
6 Click on the grey icon to select the privacy option of your choice. Once the icon has been selected it will turn yellow. Next, click on the Those with access drop down menu options and chose between Can read, Can write, Can moderate, and Can administer*. Advanced privacy options can be found below, where you may allow others to use your Padlet as a template for their own work or can require administrator/moderator approval before posts are published. 12. After you have set up your Padlet People and Privacy option, click in the top right corner. Next, click the button on the right of your screen.
7 Adding Posts to the Padlet: + 1. To add content to your Padlet, click the button in the lower right side of your screen. Alternately, you may double click anywhere on your wall to add a post. This will open a text box where you can add a title and text to your post. You can post audio by clicking on the microphone icon, video by clicking on the video icon, image by clicking on the camera icon, attachments by clicking on the attachments icon, or files by clicking on the files icon. If you would like to delete the post, simply click on the garbage can icon. 13. After clicking on the appropriate icon, you may add media, in one of three ways: a. Copy and paste a web link to the media in the From the Web field b. Click the button to upload a photo or simply drag and drop the media from your device into the From your device field c. Take a photo from your web cam (images only) Here is an example of a media image added by drag and drop:
8 14. To edit posted media, click the pen icon. To delete the post, click on the garbage can icon. To open a drop down menu to expand posts, edit post, transfer posts, or copy posts, click on the ellipsis icon. 15. To comment on posts, click Add comment beneath any media and begin typing. When you are ready to publish your comment, click on the right arrow. 16. To arrange posts on your wall, simply click on the post and drag to the desired location. Additional Options and Padlet Navigation: 1. Padlet has additional options available via icons located in the top right corner of your Padlet page. These features allow the contributor to: a. Like a Padlet by clicking the heart icon b. Make a template copy of the the Padlet by clicking on REMAKE c. Share the Padlet on a variety of formats, such as social media, app stores, PDF documents, QR codes, embeddable links, etc. by clicking SHARE d. Modify the Padlet by clicking on the gear icon e. Take a variety of actions through a main navigation drop down menu by clicking the ellipsis icon, which allows the contributor to Get help, Like, Remake, Invite People, Share or embed, Export, Print, Enter full screen, Modify, Clear all posts, or Delete all from one menu. 2. To access the main Padlet dashboard, click on the word padlet near the origami swan icon on the top left of your screen.
9 3. To log off Padlet, return to the main Padlet dashboard and click the circle profile icon on the top right of your screen. 4. To Get help with any Padlet issues, click on the circle with the question mark inside on the top right side of all Padlet pages.
