1 22 Setting up or resetting your password All new students need to set up a London South Bank University (LSBU) computer account. This account is password-protected and gives you access to the Student Portal (My LSBU), your IT profile, , your Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle and library services. All passwords expire after 180 days so all students need to regularly reset their password. Setting up your password Firstly, you will need to open a browser such as Internet Explorer, Firefox or Chrome. 1. Go to the Student portal My LSBU

2 2. Click on Forgotten your username or password? or Want to activate your account / reset your password? 3. On the next screen click on the Set up your password now button. You will need to enter your details then click the continue box. Your student number. Your surname or family name. Your date of birth. Click continue. If at this stage, a message comes up informing you of a problem with your family name or date of birth, you will have to go to your school office to get the problem resolved. Page 2

3 They are the only department who have the access rights to alter this information. You may need to take a form of identification with you. If you are setting up your password for the first time the following screen will appear: It is important that you read the rules and regulations so that you are aware of your legal responsibilities as well as University Policy. Checking the tick box shows that you have read and agreed to the ICT service rules. The following screen will appear: On this screen you need to highlight a security question. It is advised that you choose a question with a fixed answer e.g. `What is your mother s maiden name? If Page 3

4 you choose a question with a non-fixed answer, it is possible that over the several years of your study the answer may change and that could cause you to be temporarily unable to access your IT account, and VLE (Moodle). You now need to type in the answer to your security question, and then type it in again to confirm the answer. Now click on the continue button. If you are resetting your password, as is required every 180 days, you should see the following screen: Enter the answer to the security question you chose when initially setting up your password. Click the continue button. If there is a problem with your security question you will need to visit the help desk at the Learning Resources Centre to have your security question reset. If you unable to come to the help desk, for example if you are a distance learning student, please us at: llr-ithelpdesk@lsbu.ac.uk The next screen will then ask you to enter a password. Be sure to read the rules to ensure you create a valid password. In line with the new security measures, please ensure your password meets the following requirements: Must be between 8 and 14 characters Must include upper and lower case letters Must include at least one number Must not be made up of a proper word Must not have more than 3 characters the same as the username Page 4

5 You will need to type in your new password twice, then click the continue button. The following screen will appear: This screen is just informing you that your account or your new password is being set. The final screen will now appear. Page 5

6 This is your username. This is your address. If this box shows a red sad face instead of a yellow happy face, please seek assistance from the Learning Resources Centre help desk. Make a note of your username, address and your password and keep it somewhere secure. Click the Click here to finish button. Please note that when logging in to LSBU systems you should use your username and not your address. 4. When you are logged into My LSBU you can also access the password setup page if you click on Library and Academic, then select IT Support from the drop-down list. Page 6

7 5. Select LSBU Password from the menu on the left. Click on the link Password activate or reset. Configuring pop-ups for setting up and resetting your password in Google Chrome When setting up your password using Google Chrome, certain pop-up windows may be blocked. You will have to enable pop-ups to proceed. Click on the Customize and Control Google Chrome icon. Page 7

8 Click on Settings. Page 8

9 A new Settings window will open. Click on Show advanced settings. Scroll down to Privacy. Click on Content settings. Page 9

10 Scroll down to Pop-ups. Click on Manage exceptions. In Pop-up Exceptions, under Hostname Pattern type in: Click on Done to close the page. Close the Content Settings window.
