1 Self-Direction Program OPWDD Choking/Aspiration Prevention On-Line Training Instructions The New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) is promoting the health and safety of individuals receiving services. The Choking Prevention Initiative has established a set of standardized consistent terminologies and definitions related to food preparation and food consistencies. To take this online course, you must first register with the NY Statewide Learning Management System (SLMS). Instructions: Copy and Paste the web address below into your browser address bar To create an account, click SLMS Account Creation. On the next page, click OPWDD External User Registration. This will take you directly to the OPWDD training section for the New York State Learning Management system (SLMS). This SITE moves slowly BE PATIENT!!!! For the Affiliation Question use OTHER. For the Voluntary Agency Name use RCIL. Fill in the requested information and click Submit Information. This will trigger the SLMS system to generate an to the address you filled in on this form. It will indicate your USER NAME (your address) and temporary PASSWORD (welcome1). Save the in case you need it for later.

It moves slowly but it will limit the large amount of unnecessary information you see on the next screen.

3 SCROLL DOWN and you will see the one that has class code: EL-PCA, click on the Enroll button (pink) Once you select the EL-PCA option, you will then see this screen, click the Submit enrollment button (pink) To start the training, click the Launch button (blue letters) at the bottom of the screen

4 This screen will appear, push the blue Launch phrase. The OPWDD Choking Course will finally be available to start; it takes about 20 minutes to complete Use the arrows to advance or (repeat) if necessary. In the quiz portion at the end, please note more than one answer may be required for some questions. If you answer the 4 questions correctly, you will see the following screen.

5 Push the Complete Course (Purple) button. To print or save your certificate, navigate to the My Learning page. You can do this by clicking My Learning from the Quick Links on the SLMS homepage, or from any SLMS screen follow this path: Main Menu Self Service Learning My Learning. You will see this screen, and now push the Print Certificate Button (pink) It will produce a pdf file (ADOBE file) Completion Certificate that you can print or save to your computer. SLMS will also generate a proof of completion , you can forward that to RCIL at hrselfdirected@rcil.com and keep a copy for your records. It gives you another opportunity to follow instructions and print the Certificate of Completion. RCIL just needs one or the other to prove you did the online OPWDD choking course (proof of completion or copy of the Certificate of Completion) To ensure that your certificate of completion has been received by RCIL, please contact your Self Direction HR Liaison by telephone at (315) or by at hrselfdirected@rcil.com. If you need to sign in to SLMS again, please go to and click the orange button that says SLMS Login. Your USERNAME is the address you used to register, and the temporary password is welcome1.
