1 Get the App Guide to Automatically Sending Cards Using
2 SUMMARY There is nothing to install in order to utilize Thankster from within a Marketo campaign. It s basically a 3 step process that you do one time: Step 1 - Create a project in Thankster Step 2 - In Thankster, generate a Webhook URL for that project Step 3 - Paste that URL into a smart campaign in Marketo That s it! Then every time that campaign runs in Marketo, the contacts it runs on will get a handwritten card in the mail tailored to them (especially if you use merge tags - see Step 1e and Step 3c). Note: there is more detail in this guide here than most of you will need.
3 Step 1 - Thankster Create a Thankster project and a Webhook URL for it. Create or edit a card project in Thankster.com (set up a free account). This project will serve as a template in Marketo. 1a - Select a cover design. Thankster cards are folder cards, printed on premium paper. 1b - Then select the specific card 1c - Or create your own cover design 1d - Write you card with natural handwriting 1e - Merge fields in Thankster
4 Step 1a Select a Cover Design In Thankster - After you create a project the first thing you do is select a cover design. Thankster cards are folder cards, printed on premium paper.
5 Step 1b Select a Specific Card In Thankster - We have many pre-made cards.
6 Step 1c Or Create Your Own Cover In Thankster - Or, you can create your own cover with your company s logo or other imagery by clicking Create Cover in the top navigation bar.
7 Step 1d Write and Style Your Card In Thankster - Write you card in natural handwriting. You can change various features of the message by clicking on the pencil icon next to font size. For example, you can change the font color, or the angle of the text on the page. You do not need to highlight any text before applying a feature - changes will apply to the whole page (the other inside page can have its own settings). We do this because people generally write uniformly.
8 .Step 1d (cont d) You can also select from one of our existing fonts, or create your own (contact us for the latter). Click Print Preview and carefully inspect your card and envelope. Be sure you allow enough room at the bottom of your message so that no text gets cut off. Bear in mind that small things that vary, such as merge fields or character variation, can push a message over even if it appears to fit. So allow a little extra room. Click the light bulb icon to see our sample text library, and click on one to insert it. If you need more room, you can click on the other inside page of the card and type there. Each page can have a different font and styles.
9 Be Sure Your Project is Saved! Step 1e Merge fields in Thankster Project You will usually want to include at least one merge field (for greeting name) in the body of your text. This allows you to personalize the text that is placed there for each contact. For example, you will generally want to put Dear {*first_name*}, and Marketo will replace {*first_name*} with the name for each contact that it has. You must use {* and *} to indicate the beginning and end of the merge field name. You can put anything for the merge field name, For example, you might put {*last_donation_amount*} in your message to refer to the amount donated if you have created that custom field in Marketo. When you are done crafting your message, it is a good idea to click back to STEP 1 Select Card or ahead to STEP 3 Checkout to force the system to save your project.
10 Step 2 - Thankster Generate and Copy a Webhook URL for your Thankster Project
11 Step 2 Copy and Paste the Webhook URL Go to the Thankster integrations page and then Select Marketo. Here you will: a. b. Select a project from the dropdown to use as a template in Marketo. This will generate a Webhook URL which will remain connected to this project, even if you make later edits to it. Copy the resulting Webhook URL, which we will paste into a Webhook that you create in Admin in Marketo and select in the Flow step of your Smart Campaign (See Step 3e here.)
12 Step 3 - Marketo Create a Smart Campaign in Marketo, Paste the Webhook URL, Add Any Custom Fields. 3a - Create a New Webhook in Marketo 3b - Edit New Webhook 3c - Set the Template for New Webhook 3d - Adding Custom Fields to Template 3e - Add Webhook to Smart Campaign
13 Step 3a Create a New Webhook In Marketo - Under Admin tab, look for Integration and click on Webhooks, and then create a New Webhook
14 Step 3b Name and describe your Webhook Edit Webhook In Marketo - After creating a new Webhook, configure the Webhook with the following information: Paste the Webhook URL from Thankster (See step 2) Set Request Type to POST Set Template as described in next step Set both Request Token Encoding, and Response Type to JSON
15 Step 3c Setting The Template In Marketo - To set template, copy and paste the following into the Template field: {"first_name":{{lead.first Name}},"last_name": {{lead.last Name}}," ":{{lead. Address}},"company" :{{company.company Name}},"phone":{{lead.Phone Number}},"street" :{{lead.address}},"city" :{{lead.city}},"state" : {{lead.state}},"zip":{{lead.postal Code}}," country":{{lead.country}}} These are the fields that will populate the recipient mailing address on the Thankster envelopes.
16 Step 3d Adding/Linking Custom Data Fields In Marketo - to add/link a custom data field you must edit the template and insert a token. Copy and paste the following into the template field. Note that merge1_tha :{{lead.merge1mar}} etc. are used as examples for custom merge fields, Marketo allows up to 11. {"first_name":{{lead.first Name}},"last_name":{{lead. Last Name}}," ":{{lead. Address}}," company" :{{company.company Name}},"phone": {{lead.phone Number}},"street" :{{lead.address}},"city" :{{lead.city}},"state" :{{lead.state}},"zip":{{lead.postal Code}},"country":{{lead.Country}}, "merge1_tha": {{lead.merge1mar}},"merge2_tha":{{lead. Merge2Mar}},"merge3_tha":{{lead.Merge3Mar}}
17 Step 3e Adding Webhook to Flow in Smart Campaign To add your Webhook to a Smart Campaign, simply drag a Webhook into your Flow and select your Webhook from the drop down box.
18 Result - Automatically Mailed Personalized, Handwritten Cards.
19 Hooray! Cards will now go out automatically using your Thankster template(s) whenever a contact is run through a Marketo Smart Campaign. You can have as many templates in as many campaigns, using as many styles, handwritings, messages, and merge fields as you want. The cards will look authentically handwritten, with a first class stamp, leading to very high open rates, ROI, and goodwill!
