1 IMPLEMENTATION GUIDE A little friendly competition never hurt anyone. In fact, it can help everyone! Get your employees engaged in their health through a healthy steps loss competition. With our fun steps loss, your employees will be motivated as they compete with their co-workers to reach their steps loss goals. During the six-week, your employees will be d to walk 10,000 steps per day. They ll receive useful tools, tips, and to-dos to keep them on track. Built into the engaging online experience are a variety of trackers to support participants efforts. They can log activity, food, steps and more. When the is complete, they can continue to use the trackers for their full program year. So even when the competition officially ends, your employees will stay motivated. Challenge goal The goal of the Walk to Key West Challenge is for each participant to walk 10,000 steps a day for six weeks. The team with the most steps, on average, wins the. Participants will be able to track their own progress as well as their team s progress through the online web experience. Participants that track their steps at least once a week complete the. Challenge web portal features Online sign-up: Participants will sign-up for the online. Participants will choose their team upon online signup. Weekly to-do list: Each week the participants will receive tips and fun facts about their destination on their to-do list. To complete the, participants are required to track their steps at least once per week for the duration of the. The to-do list will always include a reminder to track their steps. Reminder s: Participants who do not track their steps will receive up to three reminder s that will go out automatically. The is brief and simply reminds the participants to log into the website to track their steps this week. Comment board: Participants are able to encourage each other by posting messages to the comment board. They can view the comment board to see all comments from everyone in the or simply see comments from their team members. It s a great way to help keep participants motivated. Leader board: Participants are able to track their own progress, their teams progress and compare how they are doing compared to other teams. Health trackers: Participants have many health trackers available to use throughout the, including a food log, cardio log, strength training log, and pedometer log and weight log.

2 GETTING STARTED Identify a coordinator The coordinator at the worksite is key to the success of the. The role of the worksite coordinator is to help build excitement around the. Responsibilities of the coordinator include: Attending all implementation meetings with HealthPartners Help to make key decisions such as timeline, incentives and team structure Recruit champions to help promote excitement and to help establish team camaraderie Promote the registration to employees using the provided communication materials Send weekly s to participants to help keep them on track Send weekly posters to champions to make visible to all employees *Optional: host a kick-off and/or celebration event for participants Challenge participants Identify who you would like to include in the. Possible options include : Benefit eligible employees Benefit eligible employees and spouses/domestic partners All employees All employees and spouses/domestic partners Rewards Rewards are a key component in driving participation and completion in the. We encourage you to make the incentive meaningful to your employees. You can choose to offer incentives in the following ways Individual participants who complete the by tracking at least once a week receive a reward The winning team or top three teams receive a team-based reward A combination of an individual or team-based reward Forming teams There are few options on how you can form teams. We encourage you to form teams in a way so that participants know who their team members are so that they are able to encourage each other throughout the.
