5 Day 1 Before we can convince people to subscribe to our list we need to give them a reason to subscribe to our list. It needs to be of value, free and relevant to their needs. In other words, we need to develop an irresistible giveaway. Entice your prospect! Q. What must we do when we try to land a subscriber for our list? A. We want to help them overcome their fears, their insecurities, and their allergies to all things spam, so we can get their address. Nothing more! This section primarily shows you how to create a win win situation between your new subscriber and yourself. Creating such a situation is not hard, we just need to apply a proven, tried and tested method. Only when you create a win win situation can you hope to exchange your offer for your new subscriber s address. I want to spend some time on this particular aspect because nobody ever achieves lasting success on the Internet until they understand this simple, but at times mysterious, concept. We don t simply give something away for free in exchange for an address (which is what most average marketers think). Instead, we make a presentation to fellow human beings and try to put to rest all of their fears, anxieties, previous bad experiences, reservations, and misgivings in relation to giving out their address over the Internet. We need to formulate an offer that makes our prospects so hungry for what we offer that they will put aside all their concerns and submit their address and name without giving it a second thought. Now, some people may not object to giving you their address, in which case they will easily turn into a new subscriber for you. That s great when it happens but with all the spam and viruses flooding boxes, those willing subscribers are becoming fewer and farther between. 5

6 To truly succeed in this business, you need to use techniques and tactics aimed at coaxing even the most reluctant prospects into giving you their address in exchange for something of value to them. Remember my goal with List Builder Magic to help you get a massive list of subscribers that are eager to hear from you even the ones who are playing hard to get. Once you get their , you know they re interested in your product, and you know you have a hungry subscriber. But, at the beginning of the process, you must always be aware of the fact that your free offer must overcome virtually every bad experience your prospect has ever encountered on the Internet. Your prospects may have had such bad experiences that they ve even promised themselves never to give out their ever again to someone they don t know. They may just use their Hotmail spam collector account, and in you go with a hundred other offers and ezines every day, destined for the dead letter pile. Let s face it people don t want more junk mail. I know I don t. I m sure you don t. And I can pretty much guarantee that your prospective subscribers don t, either. So put yourself in your prospect s shoes and ask this simple question Would you give up your address for the offer you just put on your website, autoresponder or ezine? If not, then you need to work on your offer a bit more by piling on the benefits for the person you re trying to attract. To get someone to give you their address, you must make an offer that knocks their socks off, blows them right out the window and gets them so excited that they type their address into your autoresponder before they even realize it. You must make your prospect want your offer so badly they put aside all their reservations about getting loaded up with junk in their accounts and willingly take up your offer. Now you re probably starting to think, Here he goes into telling us WHAT we should do and I ll finish reading this and still not know HOW to do it. Well, relax. I guarantee by the time you finish this course, you will know exactly what to do and how to do it. This Chapter will detail plenty of specific ideas for you. 6

7 First, make sure the content of your offer includes the following qualities: a) It must be current. Your content needs to offer things your prospects need NOW. What articles have you read recently that caught your eye? What will help your prospect in their business or in their life now? b) It must be relevant. Make your offer relevant and complementary to you and your website or products. An offer works better if the prospect can directly apply it to your direct type of business. This is particularly true if they think it will: o make them more money; o save them money; o save them time; o help them avoid effort c) It must have attention-grabbing value for the prospect. You need a well-written offer that immediately grabs the prospect s eyeballs and creates an intense desire for what you offer. By well-written I mean: o It grabs their attention with a great headline or subject. o It pulls them in with a powerful opening statement. o It keeps their attention all the way through. o The prospect perceives they received something of genuine value. o It keeps them looking forward to receiving more from you. o It solves at least one of their immediate problems by: making them more money; saving them money; saving them time; helping them avoid effort. Here are four excellent ideas for giveaways to prospects that will entice them to give you their address: a. articles b. short e-courses or mini-courses c. e-books d. digital products such as software 7

8 Sometimes these things can be hard for you to create when you first begin. I suggest using other people s material if you are just starting out. Use the above suggestions as a guide to help you chose which material to use to exchange for people s addresses. While you may find it easier to use other people s material at first, if you realize that you have something important to say about your chosen business, then give it a go by creating your own giveaway. Great content will overcome many shortcomings so worry less about your writing ability and more about giving REAL VALUE to your potential subscribers. I know that if an article contains current content that is of assistance to me, then I will read it, even if it s badly written. I would read virtually anything if it helped my business or made me money. But always remember, if you use someone else s article or e-course then DON T change the article itself or leave off the signature file and relevant link. Give credit where credit is due. First, contact the person who wrote the article and let them know what you intend to do with their article and they'll normally give you permission to use it. When you start writing your own articles you ll also want people to treat you with the same respect. Now that we know what sort of things we want, let s find something specific for you to offer your prospects. (a) Choosing an article Has everyone had a chance to look at Here you can access some high quality, relevant articles written by two of my favorite marketing copywriters, Jim Edwards and Yanik Silver. Experienced marketers like Jim and Yanik publish articles for exactly the purpose that you want to use them. Therefore, they will assuredly grant you permission to use their articles for any legitimate Internet marketing purpose. Scroll down until you see an article that interests you for your business and click on it. Click on the URL contained in the signature of the article and send an to the author indicating how and when you intend to use their article and respectfully request their permission to do so. Now you can copy and paste that article to your website, ezine, autoresponder or whatever you use, but please remember to keep the article intact. How easy was that? Okay, if you haven t found what you are looking for on my resource site, a Google search for articles on the topic of your choice will assist. This method works great for the online marketing business and business-to-business categories. You can find all kinds of free articles for other businesses out there, as well. A few excellent places to look for articles are included at my resources pages at: Remember this technique works for other businesses as well, not just the information business. For promoting other businesses or products such as real estate, bodybuilding, health products, etc., you will most likely find what you want by doing a simple Google search. 9

10 For example, using the search term free articles online marketing real estate, let's see what a Google search turns up for us. If you are reading this on your computer, I suggest you print this screen shot out to make it easier to read. Our search results page looks just like this: Now click on this link below which is one of the better sites listed; Real Estate Marketing Strategies - Articles At first you don t see any free articles jumping out at you, right? OK, so we need to look a little further. The Newsletter Builder link down the bottom in red will take you to a page where you can register to receive a free newsletter to distribute to your client or prospect list. This site does the whole newsletter for you in five minutes, providing everything you need including content. What could be easier? 10

11 If this link has gone down or broken since I published List Builder Magic, you can still use the same principle to search other sites. Referencing may also assist. Keep looking and you ll find lots of these kinds of resources for many businesses because marketers have slowly caught onto the idea that: Newsletter + Articles + List (prospects/clients) = Big Dollars Do you know why the authors of those articles let you use them for free? Because doing so promotes their product or website link at the bottom of the article (and even within the article sometimes). So now you know why we need to leave the article intact. As you start writing your own articles you will realize they provide a great way to promote your brand name and website. This is what is referred to as viral marketing. Free traffic from viral marketing it doesn t get any easier than that! 11

12 Turbo Tip 1 When I use the term traffic, I refer to it as a direct source or parade of potential subscribers who see your offer and can subscribe to your list. Turbo Tip 2 If you promote someone s article, you may want to give consideration to joining their program as an affiliate and make some money for yourself as you go. You can add your link to the URL at the bottom of the article if you ask the owner first. Then you can promote your affiliate link to their product on other parts of your website. That way you ll get more subscribers and more money. Turbo Tip 3 Remember that giving away an article with someone else's link at the bottom of it doesn't mean that you will lose your subscriber to them. The process I explain here means that when they accept your offer they will become your subscriber before they get to read the article you offer them. Of course, if upon reading the article they wish to read more or even buy something from the author, they may click on the author s URL at the bottom of the article. As a result, the author can also get a subscriber and perhaps a customer. NOTE: Do not let this fact stop you from using this technique. Fairness dictates that the author of this article gets some benefit for his research, experience and work. Very soon you'll write articles of your own and place them on the Internet for other people to use and you will get your share of subscribers in exactly the same manner. I urge you to participate in the voluntary flow of resources available on the Net. If you create value, you get value in return. So simple! (b) Choosing a mini e-course A mini-course is my favorite giveaway offer for bringing in new subscribers. The mini-course approach allows me to send the first part of the course in the first . I simultaneously request the new subscriber to confirm their subscription with my list in a return . 12

13 Since they won t get the remaining parts of the course yet, I can almost guarantee that they will confirm their subscription with me. This system gives me the bonus of a double opt-in subscriber, which gives me two things: 1. A very qualified subscriber who is eager to hear from me. 2. A confirmation from them that I keep to protect me from spam complaints that may arise out of some misunderstanding between the subscriber and me. But to make the mini-course work for you, your first must contain quality content and value that will leave your subscriber eagerly anticipating the second installment. Make sure the e-course you offer is absolutely irresistible so they cannot resist subscribing to it. What you have as a result is a win win situation for you and your subscriber. He gets valuable information that he searched for on the Internet and found in your offer, and you get a new subscriber of the double opt-in variety, or the premium brand subscriber we are all hungry for. It may seem hard to find a mini e-course to give away on the Internet at first, but once you understand what defines a mini e-course, you ll find it s not difficult at all. So what exactly is a mini e-course? A mini e-course is simply a series of related articles that follow a particular theme or are by one particular author. An example is the mini-course I wrote on List Building with List Builder Magic at Choose a theme and select articles that support that theme, even if they are not necessarily from the same author. Can you imagine the subscriber-pulling power of an autoresponder with an offer like these: Internet legends help you get started online FREE! Five profit-killing mistakes that almost everyone makes online, straight from one of the best known marketing guru s who will tell you how to avoid them. (List the authors articles you ve chosen here.) I think you ll find it quite simple to create this most valuable giveaway using articles written by well-known experts. 13

14 Those of you with long-term marketing experience or some expert knowledge of your business may choose to create your own e-course from scratch, which will give you the advantage of aiming it directly at your target market so you can solve their specific problems through your mini e-course. You can also take your first step in creating a marketing virus by putting your URL and signature at the bottom of the e-course. If the e-course offers value, then other marketers will use it and your virus will take off and fly! (c) E-book giveaway An e-book giveaway is possibly the easiest of all giveaways to entice your subscribers. Several sites offer free e-books and many of them also offer resell rights available for free or just a few dollars. Sometimes you must join a site s list to get access to these products, but that usually means they will keep you informed of other e-books available from time to time. For a busy marketer like you, that s a very good thing! Let s take a quick glimpse at what you ll find available to you from a simple Google Search with the term free e-books : If you are reading this on your computer, I suggest you print this screen shot out to make it easier to read. 14

15 As you can see, anyone can find plenty to choose from, by one of the easiest methods known to man using to do a search! Why would people give away their e-books for free, you might ask? The answer is simple viral marketing! E-book authors produce a good income by selling resell rights, and purchasers of those resell rights can sell or even give away the book for free, thus spreading the virus. The authors do not object to this, because the movement of free e-books helps spread the author s viral marketing campaign; each e-book contains several URLs linking back to the authors websites and products. Remember at the beginning of this section I discussed that win-win situation we are trying to create? When an author allows someone to give away his book, everybody wins! While this tactic may not concern you at this stage, keep it in the back of your mind for when you start writing your own e-books. 15

16 NOTE: ALWAYS make sure the resell rights license you have for an e-book permits you to give it away if in doubt, ask! (d) Choosing a digital download If you have some technical knowledge, you can create an audio MP3 file and give your subscribers a free MP3 product. An MP3 file is a standard technology and format that compresses a sound sequence into about one twelfth of the size of the original file without losing sound quality. An audio version of your mini e-course, for example would have a very high-perceived value to your subscriber. If you sell software that you own or are selling as an affiliate, you could offer a free trial version to subscribers. This opportunity can then be used as a free trial period to market to your subscribers the benefits of getting the full version. Happy Hunting! Now we know what we want to offer our prospects, but we need to give ourselves the very best chance of having them accept the offer. To successfully create your own subscriber-generating offer, you need to turn your giveaway articles, special reports, mini e-courses, e-books and digital downloads into lead generators by doing one or more of the following: Include a deadline for your offer. Let prospects know about the free subscription. Detail exactly what the offer includes. Tell them how frequently they will receive it. Explain how they will benefit from it. Include sponsor ads on each page, so that the reader can t miss them. Don t make a long item, just a powerful one. Build a virus (links) into the item. Let the reader know that they can pass it on to others. On the first or second page, in a prominent position, include information on joining your list(s), and your built-in list builder. Promote one or more offers that directly relate to the theme of your content. 16

17 Include sponsor ads with your affiliate links in your giveaway, if possible and if appropriate. Charge a customization fee, so if the reader would like to add their link, they can, and you can still benefit. Advertise your item on free to sell websites. Make sure you include links to your website at the bottom and make including your link a condition of giving them permission to publish the article. Submit free useful articles to article directories where marketers go to get material for their newsletter and ezines. 17

18 Day 2 Autoresponders on Your Website. I assume you have probably already reached the stage where you realize the value of autoresponders. If you haven t, however, hear me now in regard to this very simple truth. Turbo Tip 4 Autoresponders form a vital tool in your online marketing business. They are as important to you as a hammer is to a carpenter, as water to fish, as oxygen to all of us. Follow this SIMPLE TIP on autoresponders: Get them and use them! Why? Because if prospects visit your website then they bring a ready interest in the type of product you offer, right? The challenge is to convert that interest and visit into a sale! If you don t convert an interested prospect into a sale on that first visit and you don t use autoresponders or pop-ups, then you have just lost a customer forever! Converting three or four out of every 100 unique visitors into a sale ranks as a great conversion rate. But with your autoresponder in place to capture their address, you have several chances to build a relationship with prospects and then make the sale. Using autoresponders makes good business sense. Capture rates for autoresponders and pop-ups can go extremely high with an offer. Some marketers like Jim Edwards boast subscriber rates as high as 30-40% of unique visitors. So if your website works well and converts three or four out of every 100 unique visitors into sales, then why not add a potential extra 30-40% conversion into subscribers? You then have the opportunity to those extra thirty to forty people several times, using the opportunity to sell your product on each occasion. Even if you only convert a small percentage of these subscribers into customers during a first campaign, if you treat them with respect, you'll keep them on your list for the future. You can then market to them complimentary products and services, which will increase your chances of making sales. 18

19 Now that we have made clear the importance of autoresponders, the following questions remain for those of us who want to get the most out of these wonderful little pieces of time-saving, money-making equipment: (a) (b) (c) (d) How many autoresponders should I use on my website? Where should I put them? What type of offer message should I put on them? Should I change the one(s) I ve already got? (a) How many? Make sure virtually every page of your website contains a form allowing people to opt-in to an autoresponder. This will help you capture those quick look visitors who only stay for a few seconds. My website statistics give me what length of time visitors stay on my site. When I put my first website up, some people only stayed for thirty seconds to a minute a few even left before thirty seconds elapsed. (Most stay a lot longer these days, thankfully.) Did I have autoresponders on my first website? No. Did I lose potential subscribers? Definitely. Did I lose money? Almost certainly. Will I ever make that mistake again? Not on your life. Your only chance to capture those visitors happens if you can stop them in their tracks with an irresistible offer. So now let s talk about putting your offer in front of them so they opt-in to your autoresponder 19

20 (b) Where should I put them? I suggest putting your autoresponders at the top left of your home page and other entry pages, and one towards the bottom of every other page. There are several of these types of autoresponders on the resource websites I refer to at throughout Check Joe Vitale s Mr Fire site at this link as well. By putting autoresponders near the top of your home page and entry pages, you will give even the quick skimmers and quick visitors a chance to see your offer. It will also get the attention of the serious visitor straight away and increase the chance of them reading further. I suggest putting them towards the bottom of the other pages, such as the products page and order page. I say that because, by now, your prospect has become interested in your message and has obviously read on through your site. Placing your autoresponder placed near the bottom of the page will give your prospect the chance to read the page without distraction, yet it will still capture his attention when he has finished. (c) What should I put on them? Make the offer quick, easy to read, and irresistible. We have already covered how to find the right material to give away. Now we need to let our prospects know about it. Read some helpful articles or e-books on copywriting and actually write your own copy for the offer on your autoresponder. Put some time into it. Test yourself would you be tempted by your offer? Try other websites and check out their autoresponders. I don t suggest you copy something from someone else s website. What I am saying is after reading the copy on several autoresponders you will start to get ideas for what wording you could adapt to suit your offer. 20

21 (d) Should I change my present autoresponder? Not necessarily. Ask yourself: Does it work? Can I improve it? Where did I place it? Could I change its content and placement to test what works better? Part of the answers to these questions depends on your primary goal for your website. Is it to sell products only and pick up subscribers as a bonus? Or do you plan to get subscribers first and rely on your marketing campaign to get them to buy? I think the fact that you bought this book means you want subscribers as your top priority. Even if the autoresponders on your website are already effective, you may want to test them in different places on the page and see what happens to your subscriber rate. Successful Internet marketing boils down to testing, plain and simple. Everyone s website will differ, but I want to cover two scenarios that will give you excellent direction for testing your particular autoresponder success. Scenario 1 Place an autoresponder on the front of your home page and entry pages near the top, so the first things prospects see is a stunning headline outlining your free offer. You need to make this eye-catching extreme. If you do, your autoresponder will almost replace the use of the entry pop-up on some websites (the one that appears as soon as you log on). This replacement allows you to use a pop-up at some other time during the prospect s visit to your website. A pop-up like this stands as a great technique on its own, and we ll discuss it more later on. For the other pages on your website, I suggest you place your autoresponder at the bottom of these pages for the following reasons: They already saw your autoresponder opt-in form on the home page or entry page. If they go to another page after your home/entry page, then they should stay interested enough to read the content and will probably get to the bottom of your page to find your autoresponder again. 21

22 Since they have come this far you want them to read the copy you have in place so they ll buy! Let s not forget our ultimate aim here. If they come this far and don t buy, then your autoresponder offer at the end of the page will help get them as a subscriber so you can sell to them later. I find, and also notice on other websites, that you can use autoresponders and pop-ups to complement each other. Scenario 2 Place an autoresponder at the bottom of every page of your website, so your prospect has the opportunity to read all of your sales copy and still get the chance to see the offer on your autoresponder. With this option you should use a pop-up that appears on your website very early during the prospect s visit to your site. (I will cover this in more detail in the section on pop-ups later in the course.) For now, I want you to start thinking about different combinations of autoresponders and pop-ups you can use on your website to get the right balance for you. Things you must consider when finding this balance: What do I want most in the first place: subscribers or sales? Remember what we said earlier about subscribers more readily turning into customers after they have subscribed to the offer on an autoresponder. If immediate sales rank as more important to you, then place your autoresponders at the bottom of each page. If you place more importance on getting subscribers, then consider placing your autoresponder at the top of your home page and other entry pages as the way to go. Placing an autoresponder on every page of your website will capture a large number of subscribers that would otherwise just turn into lost sales disappearing into cyberspace. 22

23 By implementing the tactics we ve discussed on where to place your autoresponders, you will progress a long way towards the top bracket of Internet marketers when it comes to capturing subscribers. You will notice the most significant improvement in business from your present site when you place an absolutely irresistible offer on your autoresponder throughout your website. The most important thing to remember is to get your autoresponders and load them with absolute quality giveaways. This simple truth will make a world of difference in your marketing. 24 Day 3 Let's master pop-ups once and for all. Pop-ups: Proven Subscriber Traps If you ve been on the Internet for longer than five minutes, I m sure you have encountered pop-up windows, pop-unders, pop-overs, slide-ins, and the like. Most people I speak to have very firm views on pop-ups, and they are usually negative. But pop-ups work. They get subscribers by the bucket load. You can, however, take action to reduce the negative effect pop-ups can have on your website visitors. From the outset you need to limit the number of pop-ups to one appearance for every time someone visits your website. You do not want to inconvenience visitors by having your pop-up continually appear. When you install pop-ups on your website, whether you do it yourself or if you get your webmaster to do it, please make sure you don't let them come up too often. If pop-ups come up more than once per visit, they'll annoy your prospect and you will lose money. To get started, remember these general rules when formulating your pop-up window to capture subscribers: Don t use more than one pop-up window per page, as it irritates users. Use a script with cookies to decide how often the window should appear (once per visit seems best), rather than making the window appear each time someone enters the page. Provide an easy way to close the window. Highlight the fact that subscribers can unsubscribe at any time. Make the window large enough that your information can be viewed easily. Use a powerful headline with larger font size, and include your offer s most important benefits. Use incentives. Keep the message short and to-the-point. Ask the visitor to take action, such as reply by or complete a subscription form. 24

25 Once again, remember one pop-up per visit to your website. Study the pros and cons of these four main types of pop-ups you can use: a. basic entry pop-ups b. basic exit pop-ups c. pop-up unders d. automatic -capture pop-ups (a) Basic Entry Pop-ups When you open up a website, this type of pop-up appears on top of the website as soon as you arrive. When you view lots of websites, the entry type of pop-up turns into a major annoyance. However, the only type of pop-up an Internet marketer finds annoying is one that doesn't make you any money. Experience and statistics show that pop-ups work.if you use them correctly. However, when you build your website whether you employ a webmaster, a do-ityourself software package or build the website yourself you need to request a pop-up script in addition to your website. The pop-ups on these sites have a truly tempting offer for anyone interested in making money either online or with direct mail. You get free mini-courses or a free subscription to their ezines. (b) Basic Exit Pop-ups As the name suggests, these pop-ups appear after someone leaves your site and we have found them an excellent tool for gathering subscribers! By now your website has had a chance to sell your product and, if unsuccessful, then a perfectly timed exit pop-up will give the reader something free and high-quality about a topic that interests them. This proves to be an excellent technique because prospects go to your website, at the very least, interested in your type of product. Exit pop-ups allow us to capitalize on this interest in your type of product. I know, for myself, when something on the Internet interests me but I don t want to buy just yet, I ll give my address in exchange for something free and interesting to me. Even when just browsing, not really looking to buy anything, I stay very receptive to receiving free information of good quality. Surely at some stage you have felt the same and can relate to the power of this basic technique. (c) Basic Pop-unders This type of exit strategy is very similar to an exit pop-up as described above. 26

27 The only difference is that a pop-under actually sits under the viewing page, fully loaded before your visitor leaves the page. This means that once the viewer closes down or leaves your site, the pop-under is there in front of them instantly. You may not see a lot of difference between this type and the exit pop-up and you would be right. As far as building your list is concerned, you should only have either an exit pop-up or a pop-under that the viewer sees on exit. You can do both, but I would strongly advise against it. We are trying to balance maximum subscriber-pulling power on the one hand and not annoying our visitors on the other. (d) Automatic -Capture Via Microsoft Windows Alert Pop-up This type of pop-up appears as an official Microsoft package. It comes up with a narrow horizontal bar, and the title bar identifies it as a Microsoft Internet Explorer message (if that is your Web browser). Inside that window is your message, which says something like: Click OK to receive a free e-course on how to turbo charge your subscriber list. When the prospect clicks OK, a window comes up and informs them that their address will be forwarded to you. They may click cancel to prevent this from happening, if they wish. The advantages of this type of pop-up include the following: It gives an appearance of credibility, being in the Microsoft Windows format. It provides an easier and quicker way for the prospect to comply with your request, without even typing in their address. They know immediately what happens and can cancel if they wish. You can use it whenever and where ever you like on your website on entry, on exit, or at any time during the prospect s visit to your site. Using it on entry, so that the prospect must click either OK or cancel to gain entry to your site, can work very effectively. The small narrow pop-up lets the prospect still see your website underneath and if you do your work well then they will want to get access to your website. In those circumstances, 27

28 to get something for free that interests them in exchange for access to your website, does not seem a very difficult choice at all. Pay-per-click search engines offer an excellent way of producing instant traffic for capture by your autoresponders at minimal cost, if you choose keywords carefully. The most efficient and direct way to get to the top of search engine rankings comes by using pay-per-click on search engines. You can go to a PCC engine, set up an account, and bid for one of the top two search engine positions for your chosen keyword search terms. You ll find the better known of the pay-per-click search engines, Overture.com. Go to for links to Overture and other pay per click search engines. Overture enables you to perform several important functions: Research the most appropriate keywords and search terms for your website. Bid on your favorite keywords and make sure you get into the top one or two positions in the rankings. Gain one of the top two rankings in sponsored search engines such as the Web Directory at Yahoo. Important Things to Remember with Pay Per Click. Pop-ups Pay-per-click search engines in general, do not let you use pop-ups on your website. The exception is Overture who, at this stage, lets you have one pop-up per site. List Builder Magic tactics involve using only one pop-up, so Overture is the logical choice. If it came to a choice between using pay-per-click and dropping your pop-ups or keeping your popups and not using PPC, I would choose the latter. Keyword Submissions Pay per click keyword submissions can take 3 to 4 days to get approved by the search engine you are using. Overture allow 3 to 4 days for approval but often get back to you sooner than that. This is the only hold up to you getting traffic instantly but if you submit your keywords today, by the time you have finished Day 7 of this guide you should have your listings approved or about to be approved. Another point with your keywords, make sure they are relevant to your business and relate to the exact URL you listed for that keyword or they won t be approved. For example; if you are submitting keywords for a website that sells vitamins and you 29

30 make a submission for the keyword search term vitamins, that would obviously be approved. On the other hand; if you submitted the keyword search term gymnasium accessories you would be unlikely to succeed as the keyword search term is not sufficiently related to your site. Overture is very easy to use. Simply go to the link above, register as a user and follow the simple instructions. Now, at this point, since we re talking about paying for visitors to your site, you need to calculate your advertising budget. The two main relevant calculations in assessing your advertising budget include: subscriber value (as discussed in Chapter 7); profit per visitor (click). Your subscriber value gives an overall guide as to each subscriber s worth over the period of time they subscribe to your list. We discussed how to calculate your subscriber value in Chapter 7. The most relevant calculation for pay-per-click traffic is your profit per visitor. Your expenses on pay-per-click, when you bid on several keywords, can mount up quite considerably in a short space of time if you have not budgeted properly. The profit per visitor calculation represents how much money comes into your business during the month as result of your advertising. Therefore, you can use it to fund your pay-per-click advertising campaign. I suggest you use your profit per click calculation as the primary guide to deciding how much to bid on each keyword on pay-per-click search engines. You can calculate your profit per visitor or profit per click by taking the following steps: Total your monthly visitors to your website. Total your sales profits from your website for the month. Divide the amount of those profits by the total number of visitors to your website for the month. The result is your average profit per visitor to your website. As a working example, we will take the following figures. Total monthly visitors = 9,000 Total profits of sales = $5,500 $5,500 =.61 9,000 Average profit per visitor = $

31 In this example, the figure of sixty-one cents gives us a very useful statistic. You can say with confidence that for every hundred visitors to your website you get $61.00 profit. 100 x.61 cents = $61.00 You can now go to Overture or any pay-per-click search engine and bid on the keyword search terms knowing exactly how much profit margin you can use in bidding. Remember in the example, sixty-one cents represents the average total income you receive from each visitor. Therefore, you cannot afford to spend the whole sixty-one cents buying each click, or you will wind up with no profit at the end of the day. In this example, I would spend maybe twenty-five cents per click on keywords, leaving at least thirty-six cents profit. I definitely would not spend more than forty cents. The beauty of this system is that your advertising campaign on pay-per-click gets paid by your sales, and any subscribers you get will just add a bonus. I strongly recommend using pay-per-click search engines. It is worth remembering that with search engines, when people enter a search term, they are asking to see your advertisement. That is worth paying for, in my view. 31

32 Day 5 Here I would like to cover building your list by joining other people's affiliate programs and using affiliate programs for your own products if you have them. Affiliate programs for your own products This one is a no-brainer! If you market a product or products online without your own affiliate program, you just leave good money on the table for someone else. If you find yourself in this situation, go to our link at: There you will find websites and information to assist you in this manner, with opportunities to view easy to manage software. Of course, within the information on the product you sell, include a link to your free subscriber-capturing offer. Every time one of your products sells through one of your affiliates, you get your offer in front of a new customer and potential subscriber. Most of your customers will get their automatically forwarded to you upon the purchase of your product. But the link to your subscriber-capturing offer within your product puts you in touch with the hottest, most responsive buyers on your list! Then you get the opportunity to contact them several times as a follow up to their purchase, during which you could market your back-end and get permission to put them onto your subscriber list, newsletter list, or any other list you have! (The term back-end refers to making follow up sales to customers who have already made a purchase.) It is crucial that you look after your customers and get them to voluntarily join and stay on your list. It is so much easier to sell a back-end product to an already satisfied customer than it is to try to recruit a new subscriber or sell to a new customer. The existing customer knows you and has already overcome the doubts and insecurities many people have about dealing over the Internet. They have trusted you once, and if you have done a good job in looking after them, they will be happy to deal with you again. You don t have to go out and convince someone who is being bombarded with any number of offers on the Internet to try you for the first time. You simply have to treat your customers right the first time, and there is an excellent chance they will come back and buy again. You must treat your new customers and subscribers like gold. 32

33 An excellent way of getting your new customer or potential subscribers to subscribe to your list is to them an unadvertised bonus as a surprise gift after they have purchased. Within this you can promote your list and perhaps even promise them a further gift, offered to loyal subscribers only, sometime down the road. This kind of freebie will increase your customer s perceived value of the original purchase and help you gain credibility with them as someone who is interested in their welfare. If they feel valued as a customer, it will make it easier for you to get them on your list, keep them there, and sell them a back-end product. For example, if you sold a customer an e-book about the Internet marketing business, a few days after their purchase you could them a complimentary free report on Ten Tips to Get Your Internet Business Up and Running. This free report would not have been advertised to them when they bought the product and would come as a pleasant surprise. Affiliate programs for your products help get your product out there, As a result you get more subscribers, which means you can sell more back-end products as we have discussed. This means you guessed it more well-deserved money for you. Affiliate programs you join to market someone else's product Turbo Tip 5 If you promote someone else's affiliate program on the Internet in the traditional way (the way I did before) you only add to the subscriber list of the owner of the product. The best way to market affiliate programs is by placing their program within the offer of your free e-course or free report. Blend promotional material for your affiliate s product within your offer or include it at the end as a bonus offer for the following benefits: You get customers attention to your free offer, which promotes your product as well as promoting your affiliate s product. Statistics show that people interested in a certain topic are far more likely to accept a free offer for information than make a direct purchase on first visiting your site. This gives you the following advantages: o You get first bite at recruiting them as a subscriber to your list via your free offer. 33
