The Intelligent Transportation System
What is main purpose of the expressway? 1. Get Connected 2. Go faster 3. Grow Safely Expressway Purpose
What should we do to go fast/safely?
Explaining Order
What should we do to go fast/safely?
What should we do to go fast/safely? Control Center
How do we Manage Traffic? We manage Traffic using Intelligent Transportation System on the expressway First, we need to know where the congestion happens, With which ITS System? OR, how many vehicles on that expressway. VDS(loop-Image) AVI CCTV DSRC(OBE) Patrol team/ Customer call * VDS : Vehicle Detection System, output : Speed, vehicle number/classfication * AVI : Using car plate number, For not a spot but between two sections * CCTV : for checking the expressway situation with traffic managers * DSRC(OBE) : Dedicated Short Range Comunication On Board Equipment
How do we change from data to Information? Collecting data from ITS system must be processed and analysied It is Second process and It is kind of Software. 1. Data Gathering (speed, volume, accidents) Traffic Information Center Through BIG traffic Data, operate Traffic forecasting Automatically recognize car accident 2. Data Processing Automatically manage entering vehicles in couple of IC by signal light 3. Information Providing Automatically manage ITS System
How do we deliver the Information? It was started with VMS(Variable Massage Sign) before 1992 After the driver want to get traffic information even before departure So we started TV-broadcasting and operated traffic website Also, the biggest change about IT in 2008 It was Smart-Phone Many Apps ware introduced and downloaded about Traffic Information with no money Through like these changes, Most drivers search for Traffic Information So we used one UNIT which is used for ETCS accuracy We call DSRC and care about
What is the DSRC/ETCS/OBE? DSRC is started from ETCS. ETCS is composed of RSE, OBE, IC-CARD, and that wire-communication System. Capsure What is your OBE ID? RSE OBE Communication Where is your start point(previous spot)? ( What time)? What is your Vehicle classification? (plate number)? Here is OOO SPOT. So, DSRC can give highly accurate information!
Can Smartphone replace OBE? Person : Smartphone = vehicle : Smartphone? Smartphone Communication Purpose : Calling and Getting Information Wide communication region Mobility After Push button, Charging Only Wireless Communication ETCS Purpose : charging toll fee Short communication region Without OBE, we must charge It is the most important thing is.. Matching Vehicle( which vehicle is okay?) So, It must be needed wirecommunicaion Wireless-communication (RF, Infrad) Wirecommunication (VDS, AVI, AVC) Successfully Matching!! OBE vs S-phone
Can Smartphone replace OBE? On the assumption that Smartphone can replace OBE, Let s charging toll fee Short Wide Communication RSE Communication Region Region Communication Overlapping For Mobility RSE 12 3 Communication Many Ideal error Condition error Communication area is suitable for Many Vehicle S-phone matching in the bus, NO S-phone in Small-car, Every vehicle Sedan happened was installed Communication S-Phone error Through (BUS, Vehicle Sedan, Entering Small-car) Signal and Exit Every Sedan Signal, S-phone We happened was can communicated select problem Same Vehicle sucessfully Communication Problem+ error One How S-phone did RSE in know the which bus can car? match NO How problem! Small Car can we match? To whom should we send toll bill? whether Owner of S-phone or Owner of Sedan? OBE vs S-phone
In KEC, ITS History CCTV ~ 92 VMS ~ 92 VDS(loop) 93 Radio ~ 92 VDS(Image) 97 AVI 97 Providing Gathering TV 05 Navigation 06 DSRC 08 Web,Mobile,DSRC 08 Expressway Extension(km) 4,054 Thousand Vehicles/day 3,282 3,496 3,404 3,790 2,842 1,070 1,058 3,100 1,015 2, Vehicle/km 970 1, , ,100 2, ,996 1,944 1,824 1, ,276 1, ITS ITS History
ITS Planning on the Traffic situation We don t have to concern about Delivering traffic information system We have a smartphone We don t have to be concerned about Processing data(use Open source) We have many smartphone app developers. The prime consideration has been both Collecting traffic data and Charging toll fee ITS Planning on the situation 23 1 Need-toll Want No need-toll get fee, correct fee, IF under it information can 700veh/km(the be paid and fee charging later beginning) (All Toll of the feepeople has So. Once, opened to the public about traffic data, they can do anything OBE(for For future, charging, you collect traffic responsibility about paying traffic data), toll) data AVI(picking with VDS up violation vehicle) Simply, + if few You OBE can is supplied, use AVI You and can VDSuse VDS(LOOP,image) in the beginning KEC ITS System (collecting & charging) VDS(Loop type) VDS(Loop VDS(Image) type) AVI VDS(Image) AVI RF-OBE OBE IR-OBE Enterance Exit Output : Speed, Toll ITS Planning
How will ITS evolve? The Present (V2I) The Future {V2X(V2V, V2I)} 1. Data Gathering Vehicle-2-Infra 2. Data Processing Processing 3. Data Providing Infra-2-Vehicle 1. Data Gathering Vehicle-2-Infra 2. Data Processing` 3. Data Providing nfra ehicle-2-vehicle Processing Infra 2-Vehicle ehicle-2-vehicle V2I I2V V2V V2I I2V ITS Evolution
V2V Benefit Real Time Accident 1. OBE Can replace RSE and Control Center RSE and Processing cost reduction 2. Most of the real-time Information can be delivered More faster and safer 3. Telematics, GPS, and OBE can be combined We can know about car-defect beforehand ex) CPU of the car check about status of the car and transfer it to Autoinsurance automatically ITS Evolution
Korea has been making future road It is Smart-highway Project(2007~2017) Project( Future KEC
We will do our best to succeed Smarthighway project.
ETCS Using Rate 875lanes (31%) 8.3 million OBEs ( ) KEC handles OBE Opening Market in OBE % Capital All Toll Gate Credit Card Open about Truck Open Handicapped person 46.38% Auto-recharge card 30.49% ~ 년 2012 년 2013 년 Discount event : 5% Usually, 20%~50% Commuting time/20km, 50% Small car, 50~100% Handicapped apped person
Antenna(IR/RF) ETCS Diagram Dual lane controller Entry signal Exit signal For succeeding in matching vehicle, It must need 3 components Entry signal (wire), Wireless communication result, Exit signal (wire) Entry / Exit signal is composed of 2 pairs of detection system
The process of matching
Entry Signal Error Case Communication Result Exit Signal Final Result 1 Okay 2 X Not installed OBE 3 X/ X/ 4 X XX Wire Communication System error In lane, many cars, But It can not match In 3 rd case, in KEC, we can detect this situation, so after several seconds, the system will reset automatically In 4 th case, in the communication region, there are many wireless communications So we don t know which vehicle is problem In the wireless communication, First entering vehicle is not always communicating at the first Cause it s influenced by communication environment (C-interference, electromagnetic wave)
OBE & RFID-TAG In my presentation, OBE involve the RFID comprehensively Originally, OBE System is composed of on-board equipment and smart-card(ic-card) Tag is used for charging toll, without the smart card So, OBE is a means of just wireless communication They have both advantages and disadvantage S-card can be used both Manual / ETCS lanes also can be used the public transit Tag is simple unit
