LIS730 Final Exam 1 Your Name: Zoe Dobbs LIS Final Exam Instructions for Completing and Submitting Your Exam - PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! There are six (6) sections within this exam. Please read the instructions for each section carefully. Complete the Final Exam within this Word document. Do not discuss the exam contents with your classmates during the exam period. Put your name after "Your Name" at the top of this page and change the file name of this document to: YourLastName_FinalExam.doc (e.g., Jane Doe should rename her exam Doe_FinalExam.doc). The file extension can be either.doc or.docx. Upload the completed document to Canvas by 11:55pm on Sunday, May 3. Section 1. Short Essay In Sheila Bair s Toward a Code of Ethics for Cataloging (one of your required readings this semester), the author provides ten entries in her Cataloging Code of Ethics (pages 22-24). Choose two (2) of the codes and in approximately words total, discuss their importance to the cataloging profession (and the library world generally) using *other* assigned readings from this class to support your assertions. Examples are encouraged. Bair states in the first rule of her "Cataloging Code of Ethics" that catalogers, through their job duties of creating and maintaining records, should provide fair and equitable access to information for all library users. Most importantly, this accessibility to users should come before catalogers' own needs and convenience (Bair 2005). This is certainly in line with the first and foremost of the International Cataloging Principles, Convenience of the user (Statement of International Cataloguing Principles 2009). However, as Hoffman notes, this principle can be hard to put into practice. It is difficult for catalogers to focus on user needs when many of them either do not know what those needs are or do not know how they can best customize records to meet them. Since most LIS studies related to users and the library catalog focus on existing standards, there is little data about user needs independent of standards. However, many catalogers rely on standards to reflect users' needs because they are unable to determine those needs themselves, or even who their users are beyond broad categories. Administrators in many cataloging departments are also pressured to create records quickly and efficiently, and subsequently discourage time-consuming customization of records (Hoffman 2009). In order to follow Bair's first rule, there needs to be a focus on users not just in theory but also in practice. Catalogers need a way to define their users, even if it is by domain instead of individually, as Hoffman (2009) suggests, and then there need to be policies in place for how a record changes depending on users. If it is more efficient for catalogers to follow standards, then those standards should be based on studies of information-seeking behavior in users without regard to any standards.

LIS730 Final Exam 2 Bair's rule 5 states that catalogers should make sure that authority records are accurate and up to date, and they should "avoid cultural bias and preserve cultural specificity in name headings" (Bair 2005). However, it can be very difficult to avoid cultural bias when a cataloger is wholly unfamiliar with the language and culture of the individual for whom they are creating an authority record. Exner (2008) observes that ignorance of Native American naming conventions has resulted in several odd entries in LCNAF. For example, the authorized form for Adam Fortunate Eagle is Eagle, Adam Fortunate, following the English name paradigm, even though Fortunate Eagle was a single name given to Adam Nordwall. Similarly, a Chinese woman's name has been variously Romanized as "fu hao", "fuhao", "Fuhao", and "fu Hao" in OCLC bibliographic records. This is due to catalogers not being aware of the subtle meanings of the parts of her name or familiar with the scholarly literature about her that may provide a reference for the preferred form of her name (Diao 2015). These unexpected or variable entries can make the catalog less accessible to non-english users by forcing them to figure out and use unintuitive search terms to retrieve the results that they want. Following this rule ultimately means preserving the convenience of the user, even at the expense of the time it takes catalogers to confirm their use of foreign naming conventions with a proper authority.

LIS730 Final Exam 3 Section 2. Differences between AACR2 and RDA In this section, look closely at the representation of a title page and the AACR2 record (variable fields and non-subject fields only) for the item that I have provided for you. I want you to identify five (5) ways that the record would look different if it was an RDA record. Include specific RDA rule numbers (and AACR2 rule numbers, if needed) that support your assertions. Title Page A READER ON ECONOMIC THEORIES By Colin Jones Joyce Landers Lindsey Reeves Tony Thompson Dale Turner W.W. Norton London -- New York -- Toronto 1994 This is a work of non-fiction. You work for a cataloging agency in the United States There are preliminary pages numbered i through xxi. The rest of the item is numbered 2 through 593, but there are 30 unnumbered pages at the end of the item that contain appendices. Contains mostly black and white illustrations, but there are a few color illustrations as well. There are several black and white maps centimeters high 20 centimeters wide There are bibliographical references only on pages 588 through 593. ISBN:

LIS730 Final Exam $a _ $a Jones, Colin $a A reader on economic theories / $c by Colin Jones... [et al.] 260 $a London ; $a New York : $b W.W. Norton, $c c $a xxi, 593, [30] p. : $b ill. (some col.), maps ; $c 23 cm. 504 $a Includes bibliographical references (p ). Write down 5 differences between the AACR2 record and an RDA record for the same item here: According to RDA rule on statements naming multiple people, the 245 field would read: $a A reader on economic theories / $c by Colin Jones, Joyce Landers, Lindsey Reeves, Tony Thompson, Dale Turner. In RDA, the information in the 260 field would be in two 264 fields, one for publication information and one for copyright information. RDA rule deals with approximating a publication date, and rule deals with recording the copyright date. AACR2 rule 1.4C5 states that we should include the first named place of publication that is in the home country of the cataloging agency, but RDA has no such rule. 264 _1 $a London : $b W.W. Norton, $c [1994?] 264 _4 $c copyright 1994 In RDA, the 300 field would read: 300 $a xxi, 593 pages, 30 unnumbered pages : $b illustrations (some color), maps ; $c 23 cm. AACR2 rule 2.17A1 deals with recording the extent of items and gives examples of how unnumbered pages and illustrations are recorded. AACR2 has further rules for abbreviations in Appendix B9. These abbreviations are not included in RDA Appendix B7. According to the same rules for abbreviation I mentioned above that are present in AACR2 but not in RDA, in an RDA record the 504 field would read: 504 $a Includes bibliographical references (pages ). According to RDA rules (Recording Content Type), (Recording Media Type), and (Recording Carrier Type), an RDA record would have these additional fields: 336 $a text $2 rdacontent 337 $a unmediated $2 rdamedia 338 $a volume $2 rdacarrier

LIS730 Final Exam 5 Section 3. Authority Records and the Construction of Preferred Forms of Names Use the RDA Toolkit, Library of Congress Authorities website, and/or OCLC Connexion and other appropriate resources to answer the following questions. 1) What is the preferred name of Freeman, Beatrice E., $d ? Freeman, Bee, $d ) What is the preferred name of One that hopes to see better times? Willis, Humphrey 3) According to the authority record for Jules Verne (who lived from 1828 until 1905), where did he die? What two fields in his authority record contain this information? Amiens, France 370$b and 670$b 4) Name one see from reference in the authority record for Dr. Seuss. Dokter Seuss 5) Name one see also reference in the authority record for Dr. Seuss. Geisel, Theodor Seuss, $d $w nnnc 6) (fill-in-the-blank) According to RDA, when choosing the preferred name for the person, generally choose the name by which the person is. commonly known 7) Which RDA rule explains how to construct the preferred form of a name that consists of a compound surname?

LIS730 Final Exam 6 Section 4. Construction of RDA Authority Records Create an authority record for the following person in OCLC Connexion Browser (see below). Open and log into Connexion Browser: Username: Password: lsprism24 Choose the "Authorities" tab at the top of the page. Next choose "Create" (between "Browse" and "Show" on the toolbar) and make sure that the "Personal Name" radio button is selected before clicking the "Create" option on the page. The fixed fields are provided for you, but you will need to adjust the "Rules" field to the appropriate code. Make sure you save your work and write-down your save file number as you work. The blank fields will likely disappear when you save the record, so put a period or another character in the blank fields you do not want to lose. When you have completed the authority record, choose the "Display Record" option in the "Edit" dropdown menu. Copy and paste your record into the blank space below. Also include your save file number in case I need to access the records directly. If you have difficulty copying and pasting your record below, include a screenshot and your save file number below. Create an authority record for this person (only one is needed!), including the preferred form of the name, any applicable variant forms of her name, and all applicable MARC authority fields (046, 100, 370, 372, 374, 375, 377, 400, and 670 fields): Hope Maxwell (a female who writes in English) is the author of several mystery novels. According to Wikipedia, she was born July 5, 1964 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but currently resides in River Forest, Illinois. Also according to Wikipedia, she wrote mystery novels previously under her maiden name, Hope Richmond, but changed her surname to Maxwell when she married. You (the cataloger) have in-hand Maxwell's novel The Secret at Spooky Fjord published in 2013 (Hope Maxwell is listed as the author on the title page), but you cannot find an authority record for her; you must create one. An authority record for another Hope Maxwell (author of works on business management) born in 1964 already exists (Maxwell, Hope, ). Paste your authority record here (also include save file number!): The save file number for this file is #JDE:14. I had a lot of trouble with the formatting trying to copy and paste the record, and the only way I could get it to work was pasting it to the end of this document. This record is on the last page (page 13), below the Robocop record.

LIS730 Final Exam 7 Section 5. Construction of RDA Bibliographic Records Create a MARC bibliographic record (both fixed and variable fields) for a DVD using OCLC Connexion Browser. Include all MARC fields EXCEPT subject fields (i.e., don t include a call number or subject/genre headings). Use the following information to create the record and consult RDA Toolkit, OCLC Bibliographic Formats & Standards, and the OLAC best practices guide for creating DVD records. Make sure you save the record as you are working on it. When you are finished, choose Display Record under Editing Bibliographic Record and copy and paste the entire record in the space indicated below. Also include the save file number for the record in case I need to reference the record in Connexion. Please refer to the Instructions for Using OCLC Browser (in the Modules section of Canvas) if you are having difficulty using Connexion. Front of Container ROBOCOP SAVES THE UNICORN KINGDOM

LIS730 Final Exam 8 Back of Container Get ready for an amazing journey to save the Unicorn Kingdom from the zombie apocalypse!
