2 Communication Standard VERICATION TEST BED
VERICATION TEST BED: Industrial Consortium 3
VERICATION TEST BED: Introduction The Lifecycle of the Communication Standard (CS) will be concluded by a dedicated Verification Test Campaign to demonstrate the adequacy and suitability of this standard for the intended applications. 4 A dedicated Verification Test Bed (VTB) is under development for this purpose, to test all the features defined for the CS and to evaluate end-to-end performances in a representative environment, including all the layers of the protocol stack. Comprehensive Design and Targeted Scenarios will be incrementally implemented for testing, both in open and closed loop conditions, thus providing a fully verified and tested Standard.
VERICATION TEST BED: Mission and Purpose The objective of the Verification Test Bed (VTB) is to provide the means for testing the Communication Standard features as finalized during ANTARES Phase B2. 5 The VTB will provide a representative and modular test environment for emulating and verifying the CS features at logical and physical level. The VTB will allow verification of CS features under realistic conditions and in full end-to-end scenarios, considering both layer-specific functionalities and end-to-end application layer performances.
VERICATION TEST BED: Mission and Purpose (cont d) 6 The CS features emulated in the VTB and relevant test capabilities of the facility are designed and implemented according to specific CS test cases, including the following test categories: Functional Tests Performance Tests Stressing Tests The test activities performed by VTB will provide technical confidence on important functional aspects and performance of Communication Standard, as well as clear inputs and evidence for its standardization
VERICATION TEST BED: Architecture 7 The VTB Architecture is designed to provide a realistic representation of the ANTARES functional elements as well as external entities. In particular, VTB will integrate and use: representative breadboards of User Terminals representative breadboards of Earth Station (GES) and Control Centre (NCC) realistic emulation of Satellite Physical representative implementation of full CS protocol stack representative emulation of involved s

VERICATION TEST BED: Elements 10 User Terminal This breadboard provides hardware and software implementation of ANTARES CS protocol stack, from physical layer up to interactions with on-board network, and emulation of air-interface at intermediate frequency (). On Board User Terminal Physical
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) Physical This emulator provides hardware-based emulation of satellite payload non-linearity, satellite link propagation effects for both forward link and return link simultaneously. The emulation of satellite link propagation effects is provided for both mobile aeronautical link (including multipath effects) and fixed feeder link, operating at. System Load The load emulator provides the emulation of interference in the forward and return links in different traffic loading scenarios. 11 User Terminal Physical GES/NCC System Load
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) GES/NCC The breadboard for Earth Station (GES) and Control Centre (NCC) provides hardware-based implementation of ANTARES physical layer and emulation of Ku-band feeder link air-interface, operating at. 12 Segment Physical GES/NCC Cross Layers Interactions
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) G/S The Segment provides the emulation of ANTARES ground segment configurations, including: A configurable number of GES s Primary and redundant NCC s Management Centre Satellite and Terrestrial Wide Area s 13 Logical Segment EATM Cross Layers Interactions GES/NCC
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) Logical The Logical provides L2 packets forwarding between the set of emulated User Terminals and GES s emulated through the Segment. The satellite links are emulated in different satellite scenarios (i.e. MEO/LEO/GEO). 14 On Board User Terminal Logical Segment
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) On-board It allows the emulation of the network on-board the aircraft. This includes the emulation of on-board router functions for ATN/OSI and the emulation of IPv6 network protocol for ATN/IPS. On Board On-board 15 On-board User Terminal It allows the emulation of a dynamic pool of virtual User Terminals, including up to nodes, each configurable to support either ATN/OSI or ATN/IPS protocol stack. 16 VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) European ATM This element provides the emulation of ground ATM network connecting Segment elements with terrestrial ATC. It emulates network functions for ATN/OSI and ATN/IPS simultaneously. 16 Segment EATM
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) s These emulators of the on-board and on-ground end users and servers provide the generation of representative ATC/AOC traffic to be used in the VTB for CS verification tests. The applications traffic is encapsulated into the adequate transport layer protocol, for both ATN/OSI and ATN/IPS protocols. 17 On Board s On Board EATM
VERICATION TEST BED: Elements (cont d) Test Controller This controlling element provides remote monitoring and control of all VTB elements through a dedicated. Its main functionalities are: Overall Test Manager (including overall M&C) Test Results Processing VTB Man Machine Interface (and GUI) Element 3 Element 2 Element 1 Element N-1 18 Element N Test Controller

VERICATION TEST BED: Current Status 20 The Architecture of Verification Test Bed has been defined during the VTB Specification Review process (completed in January 2013). Development and Procurement of relevant VTB Elements have been already started. This process is based on an incremental refinement of element requirements aligned with the incremental Communication Standard definition steps. The Verification Test Bed will be fully integrated by end of 2013 and Communication Standard verification campaign will start in January 2014.
