It is the central processing location which routes the ACARS messages to the appropriate end systems using its network of land lines and ground EUROCAE ED-85A ARINC stations. ACARS Message Switching System ACARS Remote Ground Station transceiver ACARS Router ACARS recording unit The Message Switching System (MSS) stores a copy of all messages it receives and forwards a copy to each destination to guarantee that all the messages are delivered to their correct destinations. If the MSS cannot immediately deliver a message, it keeps a copy of it until it can be delivered. The Remote Ground Station (RGS) is the ground facility (VHF transceiver) which transmits and receives the air-ground ACARS messages. These are exchanged with the DSP. The ACARS Routers are basic network routers which allow information exchange between the RGSs and the central DSP. There are different implementations of this object, but no distinction is made for the purposes of CA. The recording unit captures all data exchanged over ACARS. This is a shared object; the recording facilities may be shared with other networks. This object is the Common ICAO Data Interchange Network, which enables the global exchange of data, unconstrained by the AFTN message format. It is based on ITU-T X.25 and X.200. This object provides the current time across AFTN/CIDIN, to the accuracy required by ICAO SARPs for ATS and for applications. This object records all the data exchanged over the AFTN and CIDIN. 8 AMHS Message Transfer Agent AMHS Message Store CIDIN/AMHS gateway AMHS/CIDIN time provider (clock) The Message Transfer Agent (MTA) object is the functional component of the AMHS Message Transfer Service that actually conveys information objects to users and distribution lists. It performs the function of the message switch. The Message Store (MS) object is the functional component of the AMHS that provides a user with capabilities for message storage. This object provides for interworking between the CIDIN and the ATN such that communication with ATS Message Servers, AFTN/ AMHS gateways and other CIDIN/AMHS gateways is possible. This is a shared object; the recording facilities may be shared with other networks. This object corresponds to dedicated connections over serial links (private leased lines or serial channels). The links are used by network-layer applications such OLDI/FDE (X.25), OLDI/FMTP (IP), AFTN/CIDIN (X.25), AMHS (IP or X25) and SDDS. This object is a server, separate from the above networks, which allows time synchronization across the CNS/ATM according to the CNS requirements.
