3 RIPE NCC Began operating in 1992 Formally established in 1997 as Membership Association under Dutch law One of the five Regional Internet Registries (RIRs) Supports the coordination of Internet operations Not-for-profit membership organisation Over 9,500 members (Local Internet Registries) Neutral, Impartial, Open, Transparent 3

6 IP Address Policy Update IPv4 allocations from the last /8 - LIR must already hold an IPv6 allocation Policy for IPv4 IXP assignments from last /8 - Peering LAN only - Minimum of 3 members 6

7 IP Address Policy Update Allocation transfer allowed between RIPE NCC members - Only if address space is not in use - Minimum transferable allocation size: /22 - Must qualify for allocation - 80% usage criteria applies - Evaluated by the RIPE NCC Current policy proposals No Need: Post Depletion Clean-Up Inter-RIR Transfers 7

8 Post-IPv4 Run-out Listing Service Enables LIRs that look for IPv4 resources Only available for members via LIR Portal Currently 503,808 IP addresses offered and 16,489,472 requested RIPE NCC helps to update legacy resources in the RIPE Database 8
