10 2 Overview Organizations looking to build multi-departmental private clouds or employ public cloud services are concerned about cloud infrastructure security and manageability as well as cloud performance monitoring and optimization. CloudLink s virtualized security appliance and management software suite is built to address these concerns. 2.1 CloudLink Solution CloudLink is a software solution that can be easily deployed into the cloud infrastructure and enterprise virtualization infrastructure. For this release, CloudLink supports AppLogic 3.x based virtualization infrastructure. CloudLink comprises three key components as shown in Figure 2-1. Figure 2-1 CloudLink solution architecture Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 10 Document Version 1.0

11 vnode vnode is a software virtual appliance that is responsible for networking, SLA and trust management, and encryption of data at rest. Each tenant can deploy one or more vnodes in hosted AppLogic grids. Each vnode provides an encrypted volume, accessible over NFS or CIFS by the appliances connected to it. Gateway A software virtual appliance typically deployed on a cloud user s premises, either in an enterprise data center, or on an AppLogic grid. The Gateway communicates with a vnode in the cloud and creates a secure and monitored VPN connection. All communications between the appliances on the AppLogic grid and the Gateway and appliances/vms connected to the Gateway (if any) in the enterprise data center will go through a secure VPN tunnel. The Gateway can be viewed as an enterprise security management controller that provides encryption keys to encrypt the volume in the cloud and performs SLA monitoring and other management tasks. Each Gateway supports a point-to-point topology (one Gateway for one vnode) or a point-to-multipoint topology (one Gateway for multiple vnodes). CloudLink Center A management suite delivered as a part of the Gateway. It is a Web-service application that provides user interfaces to manage CloudLink. CloudLink Center supports secure storage encryption management, SLA monitoring and testing, logs, and events monitoring. 2.2 Key Features CloudLink provides the following key features: Encryption of data in motion. All communications between the enterprise data center and hosted AppLogic grid in the cloud are encrypted with AES-256 encryption algorithms. SSL VPN between the Gateway and vnode. Since Gateway is located in a trusted boundary, it acts as an SSL VPN server and Certification Authority (CA) to sign certificates used by vnodes to establish the SSL VPN. Encryption of data at rest. Each vnode can create one encrypted volume. It supports block-level AES-256 encryption. Capability to change the encryption keys for encrypted volumes and lock and unlock the encrypted volume. Capability to store encryption keys on a Microsoft Active Directory (AD) server, which is accessible by the CloudLink Center. Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 11 Document Version 1.0

12 Multiple appliances within a grid can share the same vnode for encrypting the storage volume. Support for syslog server configuration. CloudLink Gateway system log messages can be directed to a configured remote host. Network SLA monitoring. CloudLink allows users to monitor network usage per Gateway, per vnode, and per appliance/vm. Network SLA testing. CloudLink s SLA testing feature allows end users to test network throughput, packet loss, round-trip delays, and perform loopback testing per Gateway and per vnode. It also supports service availability monitoring based on the availability threshold metrics set by the users. Most tests are done via synthetic frames with no impact to user traffic. 24-hour network SLA performance and storage statistics history. The historical statistics can be exported to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Topology map. On the topology map, the connectivity status between the cloud and enterprise data centers is automatically monitored. Administrators are alerted to connection failures via visual representation of the connection status on the topology map. Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 12 Document Version 1.0

Received refers to data received by the selected appliance/vm Performance Availability Testing Two network performance tests are available using CloudLink Center: Availability test Delay Measurement/Delay Measurement Variation (DM/DMV) test You can run either test or both tests concurrently. The performance tests are an on-demand tests that can be initiated and stopped by users. When started, a performance test will run continuously until you stop it. The performance Availability and DM/DMV graphs show the test results for the last minute interval. To see the performance test results for the last 24 hours, use the CloudLink SLA Performance Report feature (for more information, see Performance Reports). Within a specific time interval, a connection is said to be available (Up) if the traffic loss ratio is below a certain user-configurable threshold. The availability is calculated based on the algorithm described in the Metro Ethernet Forum specification MEF Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 36 Document Version 1.0

37 The color of the measurement points on the availability graph indicates whether the state is Up (a green point) or Down (a red point). To run an Availability test: 1. Open CloudLink Center using the secadmin, admin, or observer user account. 2. On the left side of the window, in the Topology Tree, select a remote vnode. 3. Click the SLA tab and then the Performance tab. 4. On the Performance tab, under Availability, specify the following information: Threshold up (%) and Threshold down (%) In accordance with MEF 10.2, two thresholds are configured: the up threshold, which indicates the maximum frame loss ratio necessary to declare an interval up if the previous interval was down (that is, the threshold for the down-to-up transition), and the down threshold, which indicates the minimum frame loss ratio at which an interval is declared down if the previous interval was up (that is, a up-to-down transition). Enter appropriate values in the Threshold up (%) and Threshold down (%) boxes. NOTE: The Threshold down must be higher than the Threshold up. Near End Far End Select this check box if you want the Availability measurement for the local CloudLink Gateway to be represented on a graph. Select this check box if you want the Availability measurement for the remote CloudLink vnode (selected in the Topology Tree) to be represented on a graph. NOTE: You can select either or both of the Near End and Far End check boxes as appropriate. NOTE: The actual names of the local CloudLink Gateway and the remote CloudLink vnode are displayed in the Availability panel. 5. To initiate an availability test, click Start. The graph on the Packet Loss tab (Figure 3-22) displays the current frame loss ratio and the Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 37 Document Version 1.0

38 threshold levels. The Near End Total Up/Down Time and Far End Total Up/Down Time tabs indicate the total availability time (versus unavailable time) since the start of the test on the local CloudLink Gateway (Figure 3-23) and the remote CloudLink vnode respectively. Figure 3-22: SLA Availability test in progress on Gateway NOTES: When in Up state, the state goes to Down if the Frame Loss Ratio becomes equal to or greater than the Down Threshold. When in Down state, the state goes to Up if the Frame Loss Ratio becomes lower than the Up Threshold. Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 38 Document Version 1.0

NOTE: You can select either or both of the DM and DM Variation check boxes as appropriate. 6. To initiate a DM/DMV test, click Start. Figure 3-24: SLA DM and DMV test The minimum, maximum, and average round-trip delay and delay variation (jitter on the connection) measurements are displayed on a graph (Figure 3-24). The results are calculated in milliseconds. As the maximum and minimum results can be outliers, the median delay measurement results are displayed on the graph as well. The graph shows the DM/DMV measurements for the last minute interval. To see the results of the DM/DMV test for the last 24 hours, use the CloudLink SLA Performance Report feature (for more information, see Performance Reports). 7. To stop the test, click Stop. Software Version 1.7 for CA AppLogic GA 40 Document Version 1.0

41 3.6.5 Running Connection Tests You can run the following connection-related tests from CloudLink Center: Loopback An on-demand test that is used to test the burst capacity of a connection for a given frame size. The test involves sending a burst of loopback frames of a specified size, identified by a sequence number, toward the vnode. The vnode loops back each frame, and the initiator counts the number of received frames in sequence and out of sequence. The test stops automatically five seconds after all frames have been sent. The test results are meaningful when the test reaches the Completed status. Throughput This test measures the maximum ingress and egress rate at which a certain burst of UDP packets of a certain size can be sent between the Gateway and vnode. Throughout tests are unidirectional, so the ingress rate may be different from the egress rate for a given frame size. Throughput test is an out-of-service test (no user traffic should be transferred when a throughput test is in progress). Loss Measurement The frame loss measurement test is an aggregate test that measures bi-directional frame loss and the delay measurement parameters on a connection between the vnode and the Gateway. The frame loss measurement is calculated using statistical sampling of synthetic packets generated at a specified rate and packet size. The test is used in service, as the synthetic frames will blend with the data traffic and will be exposed to a statistically similar chance to be dropped. Considering the statistical nature of the test, it is recommended to use the packet number no less than 1,000 (the default value).the test terminates automatically five seconds after a specified number of frames has been transmitted. Delay Measurement This test measures the round-trip delay (DM) and delay variation (DV) on the connection between the Gateway and the vnode. The test is used in service, as the synthetic frames will blend with the data traffic. The test terminates automatically five seconds after a specified number of frames has been transmitted. To run an SLA Loopback test: 1. Open CloudLink Center using the secadmin, admin, or observer user account. 2. On the left side of the window, in the Topology Tree, click the remote vnode. 3.
