2 1.. How to set time and date on the terminal: Press Menu Setup OK System OK Time OK: set time and date by pressing or, ESC, and then Save. For video instructions, click (Ctrl+click) 2.. How to enroll a finger and a backup finger: Three ways to enroll: the Fingerprint; the Card (not available for LS-836), and the Password. 1 Press Menu Enroll OK User OK Finger OK OK Remember the ID Number (you d better write down the ID number along with the employee name) Press the same finger three times-save. It is recommended to enroll two fingerprints for each user. 2 For example, you can enter as your primary finger ID number. (This number should match the Card ID number in the software-personnel entry.) You should also enroll a backup finger on See the video: For video instructions, click (Ctrl+click) 1 The Fingerprint method is to be used for the user with good quality fingerprints; the Password method for the user with worn or injured fingerprints or old people. 2 To enroll with a backup fingerprint for the user, continue from the above steps, press ESC for Backup Enroll, identify the (same) User ID OK Press the backup finger (for example, the left index finger) three times. 2

3 3.. For the user who has difficulties passing finger scanning: 3.1 On sensor membrane (It is not a mandatory part; you do not have to use it.) In the package comes a sensor window membrane which enhances fingerprint identification. In winter, some people s fingers are dry, while in summer some are wet, and some people s fingers are worn or injured, which may result in difficulties for fingerprint verification. You may place the membrane on the sensor window to improve image quality. The main purpose of the membrane is to help wet and dry fingers passing verification. When there is no membrane on the sensor and your finger is too dry to get response on the sensor, you can scratch the finger on your forehead and then punch in/out. Note: If the membrane is blurry and prevents your finger from scanning or when it reads check sensor on the screen, please remove it from the sensor. The sensor membrane is a wear and tear part. You can order additional ones from our website under Fingerprint at Adjust the scanning level value It is recommended to use PIN entry for those who have difficulties enrolling their fingers. (See Chapter 4). There is also a way to lower the scanning value; you can give it a try. Firstly, try to enroll a different finger; if it does not work out, please follow the instructions below. The 1:1 security level value can be lowered and the 1:1 Verification method can be adopted. On the terminal, press Menu Setup OK System OK--Level Setting OK 1:1 level OK Type the finger ID number OK OK lower the security value. (1:1 security value is 0-50 and the default value is 27). OK ESC. To punch in or out, press your fingerprint ID first, (such as 15 without 0s) and then press your finger on the sensor. If you still have trouble passing verification, use the Password method. (Note: old men and children may have difficulties enrolling their fingers.) Tip: 1:N security value is based on the security level value of all the users while 1:1 is based on the security level value of the individual who has difficulties to pass validation. In other words, when you enter your finger ID number on the screen and then press the finger on the sensor, your fingerprint is compared with the stored corresponding finger template: 1:1. If you do not enter the finger ID number but just press the finger on the sensor, your fingerprint is compared with all the stored fingerprints in the machine: 1:N. 3

How to use PIN(password) entry, enroll and disable a manager: 4.1 How to set a pin for the user: Old people and kids may have trouble to have their fingers verified; you can set a pin (password) for them to clock in/out. Press Menu-enroll-user-password- New enroll? You can select YES for a new Enroll number, or You can select NO to use an existing number- Enter the number-ok- Enter a pin such as 123-OK-Reenter the pin to confirm-save. When clock in/out, press your enroll ID number first. For example, if your enroll number is 00015, you can just press 15 without 0s and then OK- Press your PIN-OK. 4.2 How to enroll a manager: There are two levels of the manager: Super manager and general manager. The Super Manager has access to all the functions in the terminal, while the general manager can only add or delete users, and use USB download. It is recommended to enroll the manager with a PIN. Press Menu-Enroll-Manager-OK-SUP Manager-OK-Password-OK- New enroll? Select NO - type your Finger ID number-ok-enter a pin such as 123, reenter it to confirm-save. (If you do not have a finger ID number, select YES for new enroll.) Now every time you press Menu, you can see Manger? on the screen. Please type your enroll ID number, for example, if it is 00015, you just need to press 15, and then OK- enter the Pin-OKyou will have access to Menu. 4.3 How to disable the manager Two ways: Press Menu-Manager?-type your enroll ID-OK- PIN-OK-Enroll-Delete-OK-Type your enroll ID-OK- for example, you can press or and see , , P. If you enroll the manger with a PIN, choose P, and click OK to delete You can also disable the manager from the software. You need to have the terminal and the computer hooked up with a cable, and then go to Terminal Management-Equip. Configure: Figure make sure there is communication between the machine and the software. 2. Click Cancel admin to disable the manager. 4

Communication between the terminal and the computer: (For the User Who Does Not Have a RS-232 Serial Port) 5.1 USB flash drive Download: See USB Download Help at Crossover Cable Connection: You can also use an Ethernet crossover cable for communication. An ethernet crossover cable costs less then 10 dollars, and you can buy it from any computer store. Please have the terminal and the computer hooked up, go to control panel: Figure 5.1 Go to Control Panel. Double click Network Connection. 5

Now go to the software-equipment Management-Terminal management-add/modify: Figure select TCP/IP. 2. Verify the IP address which should match that on the terminal. By default the IP on the machine is Click Next. 7

10 Figure 5.9 If you are using the Linksys or Airlink router, click Next-Next-Finish to set up communication. If you are using the Dlink or Netgear router, change IP to , also change the setting on the machine to (See the next figure.) If you are using the Dlink or Netgear router, go to the machine-press Menu-Setup- Communication-OK-scroll down to IP address-ok, Press OK to change the IP to , Press ESC-Save. 11 5.4 TCP/IP connection in the WAN You can do Port Forwarding on the router. In this way, you may have remote communications even between different cities, states, or countries. For example, at city A, you have a terminal and a D-link router hooked up. Go to the computer to configure the router: Figure 5.11 Type for the D-link router. (If using Linksys, type ) Press Enter, type user name and password, click OK. 11

12 Now you can do port forwarding: Figure click Advanced. 2. Enter a name, type (you also need to set the same IP on the machine. See Figure 5.10) 3. Enter port Check Enable and Always. 5. Inform the person at City B your IP address: (If your IP is not a static one, you have to figure it out every time before setting up the communication.) 12

14 6.. How to set up multiple terminals: If you are going to use two or more terminals in your company, please make sure to set different machine numbers. (The employee can punch in at one terminal and punch out at another.): On the terminal, press Menu-Setup-OK-Communication-OK-Device ID-OK-specify the number,-ok-esc-save. By default, the machine number (ID) is 1; if you have two terminals, you can change one of them to How to use multiple terminals with a USB flash drive How to transfer fingerprint data To enroll your employees, you can enroll their fingerprints with one terminal, download their fingerprint data to the flash drive, and upload them to another terminal: Insert the flash drive into the port on the machine, press Menu-Enroll-OK-scroll down to Download-OK-AllEnroll Down-OK. Bring the flash drive into another terminal, press Menu-Enroll-OK- scroll down to Download-OK-AllEnroll UP-OK. Note: when transferring fingerprint data, make sure the device ID for both terminals is set How to import transactions into the software: Firstly, refer to Software Quick Setup Guide at to input personnel information. Secondly, go to Terminal Management-Equip. Configure to add terminals: 14

For detailed instructions, see USB Download Help at How to use multiple terminals in the LAN How to set up communication Before seeing up communication, make sure to set different Device ID numbers. (See page 14.) Have the terminals and the router hooked up with regular Ethernet cables. Go to Terminal Management-Equip. Configure-Add/Modify. 16

18 Figure 6.6 Machine 4 Machine How to transfer fingerprint data To enroll your employees, you can enroll their fingerprints with one terminal, download their fingerprint data to the software, and then upload them to another terminal by going to Terminal management Personnel registration (Register). 18

20 7.. Glossary: (Some terms used in the menu of the machine.) 1. Sup Manager (Super Manager): The Super Manager has access to all the functions in the terminal. He can edit any options in the menu. 2. Gen Manager (General Manager): The General Manager does not have access to all the functions in the terminal. He can only add or delete users and download data with a USB drive. Both the super and the general manager can be disabled through the software. 3. Delete: go to Menu-Enroll-OK-Delete. You can delete users or managers. 5.Alllog Delete: go to Menu-Enroll-OK-AllLog Delete. You can delete all the punch transactions stored in the machine. 6. Voiceout: go to Menu-Setup-OK-System-Voiceout-OK-chenge the setting-esc-save. You can turn the voice message thank you, press again off. 7. Level Setting: (See Chapter 3, 3.2) 8. Brightness Adjust: go to Menu-Setup-OK-System-OK-Bri adjust-ok. Under very strong light or very weak light, the sensor may be affected, and sometimes the machine talks by itself. You can adjust the sensor brightness to fit in the environment. 9. Lock control: go to Menu-Setup-OK-System-OK-Lock Ctrl. You change the setting to Yes, if you want to use the time clock for access control. 10. Re-verify (Repeated Verifications): Press Menu Setup Log Setup OK Re-Verify-OK. You can select No or 1,2,3. The number means the minutes in which only the first one of repeated punches is recorded. 11. Communication: Press Menu Setup-OK-Communication-OK. You can set all the communication parameters here. 20
