Object Dictionary 1 Introduction Note: The Johnson Controls object functions differently than the BACnet Device object. For information on the BACnet Device object, refer to the BACnet Device chapter (LIT ) of the Object Dictionary. The object defines the attributes that represent the externally visible characteristics of an N30 Series Supervisory Controller. One object exists per controller. This object allows you to see data about the controller, such as the Internet Protocol (IP) address and the current date and time. August 1, 2003 Johnson Controls, Inc. Code No. LIT Software Release 5.1
2 Key Concepts N30 Model There are two hardware models of the N30 Supervisory Controller; the N30-0 model and the N30-1 model. The N30-1 model has double the flash memory and Random Access Memory (RAM) of the N30-0 model. Use the object with the N30 Supervisory Controller (N30-0). Use the N30-1 Device object with the larger-memory N30 Supervisory Controllers (N30-1). Differentiate between the N30-0 model and the N30-1 model by the code on the device. See Table 1. Table 1: N30 Model Codes Model Code for the N30 Supervisory Controller N30-0 MS-N MS-N N30-1 MS-N MS-N Code for the N30 Supervisory Controller with Ethernet Peer Bus Flash Memory Main Code Startup Code A type of nonvolatile memory within the N30 device. The N30 s flash memory stores configuration data (data required for the device to work before a data download has occurred, such as device name and IP parameters, as well as Ethernet Media Access Control [MAC] address, date of manufacture, and model name, for example). The Flash also stores startup code, boot code, main code, and the archive database within this memory. The N30-0 contains 2 MB of flash memory and 1 MB of RAM, while the N30-1 contains 4 MB of flash memory and 2 MB of RAM. The code within the N30 that is run for normal operation. This code is stored in flash memory and is updated through a code download. The code within the N30 that runs immediately after a device reset or device start up. This code is stored in flash memory and is updated though a code download. It performs checksum tests on the startup, boot, and main code, as well as other diagnostic tests, and determines whether boot or main code runs.
Object Dictionary 3 Boot Code Cold Start The code within the N30 that is primarily used when attempting to download the main code. The boot code is a minimal size version of the main code designed to support communications and code downloads. It is stored in flash memory and is updated through a code download. Cold starting an N30 refers to cycling power either without a battery or with the battery disabled (or bad). When this is done, objects are loaded from the on board archive database, if present. This process should only be conducted if instructed by factory-trained personnel. Acquired Memory Pool Allocated Memory Pool A section of RAM within the device that is devoted to serving short-term memory needs. For example, communication messages are saved in this area. A section of RAM within the device that is devoted to serving long-term memory needs. For example, object data is saved in this area. Warm Start Warm starting an N30 refers to cycling the power off and then on again. It is used as a reset for certain functions. For example, after changing the IP address in an N30, its status field displays Reset Needed. A warm start resets the device and allows the update to take effect. In the N30, this is considered a warm start, because the battery is still installed. On Board Archive Database UTC Offset Adjustment An object database stored in flash memory of the N30 device. This database is created after an object instance download, every day at 12:02 A.M., and on user command. The database is used to rebuild objects on a cold start in order to resume normal operation. Adjust the Universal Time Coordinated (UTC) Offset attribute of the N30 object using a VT100 or Project Builder according to Table 2. Refer to the N30 Supervisory Controller User s Manual or the Project Builder User s Guide.

Set the object s DST Latest Begin attribute to 31 Mar and the DST Latest End attribute to 31 Oct. (The year does not matter and is not used.) In the United States, Daylight Saving Time is in effect from the first weekend in April through the last weekend in October. Set the object s DST Latest Begin attribute to 7 Apr and the DST Latest End attribute to 31 Oct. (The year does not matter and is not used.) In the Southern Hemisphere, Daylight Saving Time is observed from October to March. Arizona, Hawaii, the eastern time zone portion of Indiana, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, and countries near the equator do not observe Daylight Saving Time.
6 Daylight Saving Time During Daylight Saving Time, the time change creates the conditions shown in Table 3 and Table 4. Table 3 shows the trend log after clocks move ahead for spring. The CST row shows the time as clocks are set forward and skip over 2 A.M. to 3 A.M., the log adjusts for the missed hour and time appears as in the CDT row. (The CDT times are the times the user sees when looking back at the log after 3 A.M. the day the clocks change.) The time change does not affect the UTC Stamp. Table 3: Spring Ahead Times Time Zone Clock Time CST (Central Standard Time) UTC Stamp CDT (Local Time) Table 4 shows the trend log when clocks are moved back in the fall. The CDT row shows how time is set back an hour at 2 A.M. (1 A.M. appears to repeat). The CST row represents the times seen when looking back at the log after 1 A.M. CST as the log is adjusted to compensate for the extra hour. Again, the UTC Stamp is not affected by the time change. Table 4: Fall Back Times Time Zone Clock Time CST (Central Standard Time) UTC Stamp CDT (Local Time) Time Synchronization The object now supports both the BACnet UTCTimeSynchronization message and the BACnet TimeSynchronization message (non-utc version). Third-party devices now have the ability to send the TimeSynchronization message to an N30. See Protocol Services Supported in Table 6.

Definition See Table 2 in the Metasys Common Object chapter (LIT ). Conveys three flags that separately indicate the receipt of acknowledgements for To-Offnormal, To-Fault, and To-Normal events. Represents the number of bytes currently unused in the acquired memory pool. Represents the size of the largest block of free acquired memory and provides a measure of acquired memory pool fragmentation. A smaller number implies higher fragmentation and a larger number implies lower fragmentation. Represents the lowest number of bytes unused in the acquired memory pool since the last device cold start. This attribute represents the number of bytes to be assigned to the acquired memory pool after a cold start, in order to establish this memory pool. A change to this attribute does not take effect until the next N30 cold start. The sum of the Acquired Pool Size attribute and the Allocated Pool Size attribute should be equal to or less than 650,000 (N30-0) or 1,350,000 (N30-1). Represents the current total size in bytes of the acquired memory pool. Represents the number of bytes currently unused in the allocated memory pool. Represents the size of the largest block of free allocated memory and provides a measure of allocated memory pool fragmentation. A smaller number implies higher fragmentation and a larger number implies lower fragmentation. Represents the lowest number of bytes unused in the allocated memory pool since the last device cold start. This attribute represents the number of bytes to be assigned to the allocated memory pool after a cold start, in order to establish this memory pool. A change to this attribute does not take effect until the next N30 cold start. The sum of the Allocated Pool Size attribute and the Acquired Pool Size attribute should be equal to or less than 650,000 (N30-0) or 1,350,000 (N30-1). Represents the current total size in bytes of the allocated memory pool. Indicates the maximum number of times that an Application Protocol Data Unit (APDU) is retransmitted. If the device does not perform retries, it is set to zero. If this value is greater than zero, a non-zero value appears in the APDU Timeout attribute. Indicates the amount of time in milliseconds between retransmission of an APDU segment. This value is non-zero if the device supports segmentation of transmitted APDUs. Indicates the amount of time in milliseconds between retransmissions of an APDU requiring acknowledgment for which no acknowledgment has been received. This is the date of the last successful onboard archive of object instances. The value of this attribute is valid during the onboard archive download process if a valid onboard archive exists. The value of this attribute is 0xFF bytes at all other times. This is the start time of the last successful onboard archive of object instances. The value of this attribute is valid during the onboard archive download process if a valid onboard archive exists. The value of this attribute is 0xFF bytes at all other times.
Object Dictionary 13 Attribute Name BACnet IP Port Battery Condition BOOTP Enabled Definition Specifies the IP port. This value allows multiple BACnet networks on a single IP network and prevents communication between the multiple BACnet networks. This attribute indicates whether the battery on the N30 board should be replaced. If the value is OK, the battery should preserve system memory in the event of a power failure. If the value is Fault, the battery should be replaced as soon as possible because system memory may not be preserved in the event of a power failure. The battery condition is checked and this attribute updated with the test result only as follows: after a system cold start or warm start every day at 12:01:30 A.M. when the Battery Test command is executed When the value goes to Fault, an alarm message is generated and the red Light-Emitting Diode (LED) on the N30 flashes on and off. When the value is OK, an alarm message is generated and the red LED stops flashing. Indicates whether the object utilizes Bootstrap Protocol (BOOTP). Set BOOTP Enabled to True when the Ethernet network includes a BOOTP server programmed with N30 data. Note: In this document, the term BOOTP server refers both to BOOTP servers and to Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) servers configured to accept BOOTP requests. When BOOTP Enabled is True, the N30 attempts to contact the BOOTP server on system restart (cold or warm restart). The N30 does not attempt to contact the BOOTP server at any other time. If the N30 successfully contacts the BOOTP server, the N30 utilizes the data provided by the server to change specific attributes. The N30 may assign changes to the following attributes based on contact with the BOOTP server (depending on the configuration of the BOOTP server): IP Address IP Mask IP Router Address DNS Server IP Address Domain Name Object Name (see Note) Note: In order to obtain the Object name, the N30 performs a DNS host name lookup using the N30 s IP Address. The N30 attempts this lookup only if the BOOTP server returns the DNS Server IP Address and Domain Name. The Object Name of the device object is also the device name. If the N30 changes an attribute value based on contact with the BOOTP server: the new value is effective immediately and a device restart is unnecessary the new value cannot be changed by download from a tool (the N30 assumes that the values from the BOOTP server are more current than those in the tool database) Changes to the BOOTP Enabled attribute do not take effect until the next N30 restart (cold or warm restart).
14 Attribute Name Code Download Support Date of Manufacture Daylight Time Units Debug Port Default Base Units Dictionary Language DNS Refresh Period DNS Server IP Address Definition Describes the type of process supported by device for downloading code. The options include: None - The device does not support code download because it stores its operating system and standard object classes in ROM (or other similar storage) which cannot be replaced through a code download. Complete - Fixed BIN - The device supports a code download that requires all data in the Binary (BIN) file be sent to the device. The device supports a fixed set of standard object classes and downloads code at one time. Complete - Assmb BIN - The device supports a code download that selectively chooses standard object classes from the BIN file and assembles them into a load file for the device. The device supports a configurable set of standard object classes and downloads code at one time. Incremental Addition - The device does not require a complete code download and allows the addition of new standard object classes as they are available. You cannot delete classes individually. Incremental Replace - The device does not require a complete code download and allows the replacement of standard object classes as they are available. You cannot delete classes individually. Contains the date of manufacture and is writable only in factory test mode. The date format is MMDDYYYY. For example, means the date of manufacture is April 10, Contains up to four characters representing the Daylight Saving Time (DST) zone designator (for example, CDT for Central Daylight Time). This is the port through which the built-in N30 code debugger is accessed. Describes the base units used by this device. Describes which dictionary is downloaded to the device. Specifies the time in minutes between DNS lookups by the object. If an IP address changes within a DNS server, this periodic DNS lookup allows the N30 Device object to automatically obtain the new IP address. A value of 0 disables periodic DNS lookups after the initial DNS lookup. Specifies the IP address of a DNS server. An IP address of indicates that the object does not use DNS. The object uses the DNS server to obtain the IP address of a device given that device s IP host name. Assign a value to the DNS Server IP Address attribute in one of two ways: Either set the value of this attribute explicitly or allow the BOOTP server to set it automatically. Be aware that the BOOTP server may change the value even if you have set it explicitly. See the BOOTP Enabled attribute.
Object Dictionary 15 Attribute Name Domain Name DST Enabled DST Latest Begin DST Latest End DST Status Duplicate References Ethernet MAC Address Event Enable Event State Event Timestamps Event Type Factory Test Data Firmware Version Fixed Boot Version GDO Queue Size Definition Specifies the name of the domain in which the N30 exists. The fully qualified IP host name of the N30 is the N30 s object name added to the domain name (with names separated by a period). Example domain names are acmeinc.com or n30net. See Fully Qualified Host Name below for example names. Assign a value to the Domain Name attribute in one of two ways: Either set the value of this attribute explicitly or allow the BOOTP server to set it automatically. Be aware that the BOOTP server may change the value even if you have set it explicitly. See the BOOTP Enabled attribute. The N30 may also use this attribute when performing a DNS lookup of a host name (SMTP Server Name, for example). The N30 assumes that a host name with no periods exists on the same domain as the local device. Otherwise, the N30 assumes that a host name with one or more periods is a fully qualified host name. In the following examples, the Domain Name attribute is set to acmeinc.com: Specified Host Name Fully Qualified Host Name smtp smtp.acmeinc.com smtp.acme smtp.acme Indicates whether daylight saving time is enabled (True) or not (False) at the device s location. The latest month and day that daylight saving time begins (April 7 in the U.S.A.). This is used to calculate when DST begins each year. The latest month and day that daylight saving time ends (October 31 in the U.S.A.). This is used to calculate when DST ends each year. Indicates whether daylight saving time is in effect (True) or not (False) at the device s location. This is a list of references that are duplicated. Duplicate References indicate that an object is defined more than once in the system. Represents the unique Ethernet MAC address assigned by the factory to this N30. Do not change the value of this attribute unless you are assigning a new address because of loss due to flash memory corruption. The change is not effective until after the next N30 restart (warm or cold). Conveys three flags that separately enable and disable reporting of To-Offnormal, To-Fault, and To-Normal events. Conveys the last event state (To-Offnormal, To-Fault, or To-Normal event) for which a notification generated. Conveys the times of the last To-Offnormal, To-Fault, and To-Normal event notifications, respectively. Time or Date timestamps have FF in each octet. Sequence time stamps are 0 if no event notification of that type has been generated. If the object supports intrinsic reporting, this attribute is required. Fixed to BAC Event Status Report. Provides static storage of factory test results. Represents the release of firmware installed in the main code section of the device. The first digit in the revision number is advanced on major releases. The second digit is advanced on minor releases. Represents the release of firmware installed in the boot code section of the device. The first digit in the revision number is advanced on major releases. The second digit is advanced on minor releases. Refer to the Guaranteed Delivery chapter (LIT ).
16 Attribute Name Hardware Type IP Address IP Mask IP Router Address Julian Date Local Date Local Time Location Login Id Max APDU Length Max Message Buffer Max Appl Memory Max Object Memory Definition Identifies the revision of the hardware and is used by software so that it runs properly on different revisions of hardware. This attribute represents the Internet Protocol (IP) address of this N30. The IP address identifies the N30 on the network and assists in the routing of messages. Each N30 must have a unique IP address for the network to operate properly. A change to this attribute takes effect after the next N30 restart (cold or warm). Assign a value to the IP Address attribute in one of two ways: Either set the value of this attribute explicitly or allow the BOOTP server to set it. Be aware that the BOOTP server may change the value even if you have set it explicitly. See the BOOTP Enabled attribute. This attribute represents the IP mask used on the Ethernet network. The IP Mask is used for subnet addressing. A change to this attribute takes effect after the next N30 restart (cold or warm). Assign a value to the IP Mask attribute in one of two ways: Either set the value of this attribute explicitly or allow the BOOTP server to set it automatically. Be aware that the BOOTP server may change the value even if you have set it explicitly. See the BOOTP Enabled attribute. This attribute represents the IP address of an Ethernet router. It identifies the network router being used by an N30. A change to this attribute takes effect after the next N30 restart (cold or warm). Assign a value to the IP Router Address attribute in one of two ways: Either set the value of this attribute explicitly or allow the BOOTP server to set it automatically. Be aware that the BOOTP server may change the value even if you have set it explicitly. See the BOOTP Enabled attribute. Represents the number of elapsed days since the beginning of the year. For example, the Julian date for February 28, 1998, is 59. Indicates the date to the best of the device s knowledge. The Date type is a structure of four 1-byte elements. The first byte is the year (represented as current year-1900); the second byte is the month (1..12, 1=January); the third is the day of the month (1..31). In order to maintain compatibility with BACnet, a fourth byte contains the day of the week (1=Monday). A value of FF (hex) in any of the elements indicates the value is not specified. Indicates the time of day to the best of the device s knowledge. The data type is a structure of four 1-byte elements. The first byte is the hour (0..23); the second byte is the minute (0..59); and the third byte is the seconds (0..59). A fourth byte has been added to maintain compatibility with BACnet protocol and contains the hundredths of a second (0..99). A value of FF (hex) in any byte indicates the value is unspecified. This is used, for example, when the hundredths byte is not important. Indicates the physical location of the device. Serial login user ID. This is the login user ID used for a BACnet connection to a serial port, such as a serial port on a workstation. This is the maximum number of bytes that may be contained in a single, indivisible application layer protocol data unit. This is the largest piece of data that can be sent to a device at one time, excluding all communications headers. Some applications need to perform segmentation of data outside the communications system. This value is used to size the data in those situations. Indicates the maximum amount of application memory available within the device. Indicates the maximum amount of object memory available within the device.
Object Dictionary 17 Attribute Name Definition Memory Addressing Describes how numerical values are stored in memory. The options include: Style NON_INTEL_ORDER (0) = high byte first INTEL_BYTE_ORDER (1) = low byte first Model Specifies the N30 model (N30 or N30-1) Model Name Indicates the device model, the hardware revision associated with the firmware, and the code file name used to download the device. The object uses the SMTP Server IP Address to send messages. See the chapter (LIT ). Assign a value to the SMTP Server IP Address attribute in one of two ways: Either set the value of this attribute explicitly, or allow a DNS lookup to set it automatically. Be aware that the DNS lookup may change the value even if you have set it explicitly. Specifies the IP host name of an SMTP server. The N30 uses this name to obtain the SMTP Server IP Address using DNS lookup. The DNS lookup occurs at device restart and occurs again periodically according to the value in the DNS Refresh Period attribute. Contains up to four characters representing the standard time zone designator (for example, CST for Central Standard Time). Represents the release of firmware installed in the startup code section of the device. The first digit in the revision number is advanced on major releases. The second digit is advanced on minor releases. This structure indicates the results of the numerous startup diagnostic tests. The test results displayed are: battery, startup code, boot code, main code, configuration, N2 port, Port 1, Port 2, Port 3, Ethernet, and dictionary.
20 Attribute Name Subclass Download Support Unbound References UTC Offset Vendor ID Vendor Name Definition Describes the type of process supported by device for subclass (applications and assemblies) downloading. The options include: None - The device does not support downloading applications and assemblies. Complete - The device supports downloading all applications and assembly subclasses to the controller at one time. Incremental Addition - The device does not require a complete subclass download and allows the addition of new subclasses as they are available. You cannot delete subclasses individually. Incremental Replace - The device does not require a complete subclass download and allows the replacement of subclasses as they are available. You cannot delete subclasses individually. List of references that are not bound. Unbound References indicate that process cannot find an object either because the device that the object is on is offline or the object name is misspelled. Indicates the number of minutes (-900 to 900) offset between local standard time and Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). The time zones to the west of zero degree meridian are positive values, and those to the east are negative values. Distinguishes proprietary extensions to the protocol using a unique vendor identification code assigned by ASHRAE. The Johnson Controls Vendor ID is 5. Identifies the manufacturer of the device.
