1 2007_WhatIsNew_AA_7.0_FAQ Q: Is the Avaya Aura Media Server for SIP only solutions? A: No; AAMS can be used only for IP ports (H.323 and SIP). Any TDM phone or trunks need to use gateway. Q: If you are still using TDM based endpoints, will you still need the DSP resources included in the G series media gateways? A: Yes Q: Ed Carmichael: Can the AAMS be added to whatever DSP resources you have on board required 248 gateways that are there to support TDM endpoints and trunks. A: Yes Q: Can we have T.38 fax support with AAMS? A: No; T38 Faxing on AAMS not supported. Q: Moritz Pomp: Does AAMS support more than one tone set? For example: two sites (US and EMEA) where we have different tones? A: Yes; AAMS supports multiple tone sets. Q: Is there a roadmap for T.38 support with AAMS? A: No plan to support T.38 for AAMS at this point. Q: Can we have CM 7.0 on an 8300D server? A: Yes; CM 7 is supported on the S8300D. Q: What is the hard disk size on the S8300E? A: 320 GB Q: Can we not use the headless install for AVP? A: No; only the headless install is supported for AVP. AVP configurations are placed on a USB drive (provided) and AVP will automatically install. Q: Do we have System Platform in Avaya Aura 7.0 or it is only VMware? A: No; System Platform is replaced with AVP / SDM in 7.0. AVP is based on the VMware ESXi hypervisor. Q: Is System Manager and Solution Deployment Manager a pre-requisite for AVP installation? A: AVP installation is done independently. AA 7.0 SMGR and SDM are not pre-requisite for an AVP installation. SMGR is the required management application for AA 7.0 Q: Under what circumstance we need SDM? A: While it is not required for the installation of AVP, SDM is required for the installation and maintenance of the AA applications. SDM client and SDM as part of SMGR are required for AVP solutions.

2 Q: I thought when we install AVP, it will install the customized VMware (AVP) and CM7. Does this install still need SDM? A: AVP installations only install the platform (ESXi host). After building the AVP host, you need to deploy CM to the AVP host using SDM. Q: The terms, C-DOM/ DOM0, and similar vernacular is particular to Xen, and goes away now, correct? A: Yes; broadly speaking Dom0 is now AVP and the Cdom functionality is split between SDM (client and within SMGR) and Utility Services. Utility services will always be present on the server in the same way Cdom was to provide some of the same functions. Q: What about the VSP integrated SAL? Has it moved to its own virtual machine? A: Yes; SAL is now its own virtual machine. Although from SP 6.2 SAL already ran in a separate VM in the Services VM that was part of System Platform. SAL is provided in 7.0 via the SAL OVA. The SAL OVA supports managing 15 entities only. The larger ADS SAL offering may be required for larger systems. Q: Since we need SMGR and SDM to deploy AA 7 application what is used to deploy the SMGR application on AVP? A: The SDM client, installed on a PC, is used to deploy SMGR onto AVP. Q: Will the Policy Server be available as OVA or do we still need a Linux server to deploy a Policy Server onto it? A: You will still need a Linux server to deploy the policy server. Q: Can we do without the utility server if we do not need the service port? A: No; Utility Services also provides hardware alarming and security control to the AVP hypervisor. Utility server is mandatory for all AVP installations. SDM automatically checks the AVP host for a Utility Server and will require the Utility Server be installed before any other AA 7.0 application. Q: Do all AA 7.0 implementations require SMGR? A: Yes; SMGR is mandatory. Q: If I don't use SMGR at all, can I use SDM client on the PC to install AA 7.0 applications? A: You can use SDM Client to install SMGR and then use the SDM within SMGR to install other applications. Q: Can you explain the "Service Port" mode? A: In Services Port Mode, the DHCP server and other parts of US are permanently removed. This is why moving between modes is not possible. Services Port mode runs only the features required for AVP C-Dom like features. In System Platform, Dom0 ran this Service port function but in AA 7.0 we have moved that function into Utility services. Hardware alarms from AVP and SSH access to AVP is also controlled via Utility Services. Q: How do we monitor the AVP installation process on an S8300 server? A: There is no provision to monitor on the S8300 servers. It is a headless installation and the installation IP will reply to ICMP ping messages after approximately 30 minutes.

3 Q: How do we validate an AVP installation on an 8300 server? Is there any test we can perform to check on the installation? A: Currently, running a ping to the AVP IP addresses is the only way to monitor when the installation is ready on the S8300. Once the system responds to a ping, then wait another 3 minutes before logging in. AVP reboots twice as part of installation (First reboot is to complete the installation and the second reboot is to commit post-installation configuration changes). You will be presented with a EULA license agreement upon logging in. Q: If I do not provide a strong root password, will it stop the AVP installation? Will I receive a notification on this error? A: The AVP Install File Generator Tool enforces 8 characters with a mix of types before it allows the ks.cfg to be generated so no password error will occur during the AVP installation. Q: Is there something in place to block accessing AVP from vsphere client or register it with vcenter? A: VMware vcenter will not work and is not supported with AVP. VMware vsphere client is not supported and will create issues with missing setup for the AVP solution. You must use SDM for a properly configured deployment of AA 7.0 applications on an AVP host. Q: Can we install AVP using USB and have a second USB with the ks.cfg file? A: Installation of AVP via USB is not supported on Avaya Common Server. You must use the AVP DVD disk for AVP and a USB for the ks.cfg file. However, a USB-based installation of AVP is supported and required using a USB DVD drive for the S8300 since there is not a DVD drive on the S8300 server. Q: When we modify the management IP address of an AVP server (Eth0), will it replace the management IP add for the Eth1? A: The static Services Port management IP address is unaffected. Q: Is System Manager 7.0 required to install the AA7 application? Can we use System Manager 6.3 for deployments? A: No; System Manager 7.0 is required to deploy AA 7.0 applications. Q: Will Avaya be notifying us when VMware might need updates? A: AVP updates will be provided and will be in alignment with normal service pack/feature pack release updates. Q: With AVP can we have VMware vmotion HA etc.? A: Customers wishing to use VMware vmotion and VMware HA should look to a Collaboration Pod or Virtualized Environment offer for their solution. Avaya provides HA at the application level in the AVP offer. Q: Few OVAs are in the list which can be installed on AVP. What about applications like CMS, AAM, and SBC etc.? Do we need to have an AVP for those applications? A: Applications not currently listed in the AA 7.0 release will need to be installed on customer provided ESXi for 7.0. Q: Can you use the Utility Server server's HTTP server to deploy AA 7.0 applications? A: You could use the System Manager local library.

4 Q: Is Solution Deployment Manager based on Tomcat? Is SDM installing a Windows service on our laptops? Does that port 443 introduce trouble while logging in to customers systems using SAL? A: SDM is tomcat-based. SDM does install Tomcat and configure the SDM as a service. Q: What is meant when we say SDM Location? Does it mean where the AVP hardware is physically located? A: Not necessarily. Location does have physical location attributes but the term Location is more a logical group (folder) for AVP hosts and virtual machines. Q: If we use Windows-based SDM client, can we load the ova on the SDM client PC? A: Yes; you can configure the directory at the time of SDM installation. Q: Is the Windows-based client only used to deploy the SMGR OVA? Can I deploy other OVAs with the SDM client? A: ALL AA 7.0 OVAs can be deployed with SDM Client. However, if you want to migrate your applications to 7.0 you need to use SDM Central in System Manager. Only SMGR can be migrated from the SDM client. Q: Can the Utility Server be used a remote library? A: No. However, you could use the SMGR as a local library in which case you do not need a remote library. Q: Where are the SMGR and SM Migration Utility tools? Can we perform the data migration ourselves or do we have to engage Avaya Product Support? A: Download from PLDS. You can perform the migration yourselves. Note- you can use the SDM client for the SMGR migration. Q: Are G350s and G700s no longer supported in 7.0? A: These gateways have been tested with AA7, but are not under manufactures support any longer. Q: Is there a VM for Avaya Aura Avaya Media Server? A: The AAMS is available as an OVA, as well as a binary download. Q: Some of our customers are upgrading to ESXi 6, does Aura 7.0 supports this? A: Not yet. We are planning support for this in a feature pack later in the year. Q: Doug L.: Is a standalone SAL Gateway server still supported for Avaya Aura 7.0? A: Yes. Q: Does the S8300E supports co-resident SAL? A: There is a SAL OVA that supports 15 entities to replace services VM that was in SP. This does not fit on the S8300D for 7.0. Q: Is Avaya Aura Messaging included in AA 7.0? A: No; AAM will move into AVP at a future date.

Can a remote Datastore be used, perhaps a NAS? A: Yes; the datastore is the AVP local HDD. A remote or NAS cannot be used for AVP.
