To satisfy strong customer demand for more and extended function and remain at the leading edge, IBM continues to enhance its world-class messaging and brokering offerings between product releases. Message Broker further enhances this capability with intelligent services for transformation and routing as well as additional transport protocols that allow you to extend and manage the diversity, scope, and scale of your networks. software helps you build and extend your connectivity layer (otherwise known as your Enterprise Service Bus (ESB)). This enables you to optimize information distribution between service requesters and service providers. Each enterprise will develop its own unique ESB, reflecting the advancement toward becoming an on demand business. 2 Description IBM continues to invest in its portfolio of WebSphere MQ and Broker products. Since availability, many improvements are delivered as Fix Packs or offered as fully supported SupportPacs. Latest Fix Packs: Current users of these program offerings, for all platforms, are advised to install the latest Fix Packs from the following site. integration/mqfamily/support/ Category 2 Freeware: SupportPacs in this category are available at no charge to all users of WebSphere MQ products. They typically provide material covering areas such as: Background education on WebSphere MQ products Sample utilities to assist in the development of WebSphere MQ based applications Sample utilities to assist in the operation and management of WebSphere MQ based systems They are provided as-is and the license agreement that accompanies them does not provide for defect correction. Category 3 Product Extensions SupportPacs: SupportPacs in this category are available at no charge to all users of WebSphere MQ and MQSeries products. They are supplied under the standard terms and conditions contained in the IBM International Program License Agreement (IPLA) and provide for defect correction for customers entitled to service for WebSphere MQ family products until a defined End of Service date. You can download the latest SupportPacs from integration/support/supportpacs/ Improvements to WebSphere MQ Awarded National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP) Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2 WebSphere MQ V with Corrective Service Diskette (CSD) 6, (Fix Pack 6) has been evaluated to Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level 2 (EAL2). Common Criteria is a scheme for independent assessment, analysis, and testing of IT products to a set of security requirements. An EAL2 certification provides assurance that the product has been structurally tested. The certificate awarded to WebSphere MQ is recognized internationally by the following countries: United Kingdom United States Canada Australia New Zealand France Germany Finland Greece Israel Italy Netherlands Norway Spain Sweden Switzerland You can find further information concerning the certification on the NIAP CCEVS Web site Microsoft Windows 2003 support WebSphere MQ 5.3 supports Microsoft Windows 2003 Standard or Enterprise edition without any further service fixes or updates. Delivered in Fix Pack 4: PTF U or PTF UQ7751 (z/os) Microsoft.NET support (originally offered in SupportPac MA7P) This Fix Pack adds support for the Microsoft.NET environment..netwebsphere MQ classes for Microsoft.NET allow a program written in the Microsoft.NET programming framework to: Connect to WebSphere MQ as a WebSphere MQ client Connect directly to a WebSphere MQ server WebSphere MQ classes for.net enable Microsoft.NET applications to issue calls and queries to WebSphere MQ. This gives access to mainframe and legacy applications, typically over the Internet, without any other WebSphere MQ code on the client machine. With WebSphere MQ classes for.net, Internet users can become true participants in transactions, rather than just givers and receivers of information. Samples provide illustrations of how to use the MQI from a.net environment. WebSphere MQ classes for.net provide an excellent infrastructure to access enterprise applications and develop complex Web applications. A service request from a Web browser can be queued then processed when possible, allowing a timely response to be sent to the end user, regardless of system loading. By placing this queue close to the user in network terms, the load on the network does not impact the timeliness of the response. Also, the transactional nature of MQ messaging means that a simple request from the browser can be expanded safely into a sequence of individual backend processes in a transactional manner. Delivered in Fix Pack 5: PTF U JMS 1.1 support WebSphere MQ classes for Java Message Service (also referred to as WebSphere MQ JMS) are a set of Java classes that implement the Sun Java Message Service (JMS) interfaces to enable JMS programs to access WebSphere MQ systems. This WebSphere MQ V5.3 update implements Version 1.1 of the JMS API specification, which is backward compatible with Version 1.0.2b. Both the point-to-point and publish/subscribe models of JMS are supported. New features of the Version 1.1 implementation: A common set of interfaces for a domain-independent view of both the point-to-point and publish/subscribe messaging domains. Semantic differences between the messaging domains are retained. Actions from both the point-to-point and publish/subscribe domains can be included in the same transaction

3 Domain unification provides a simplified client programming model. Delivered in Fix Pack 6: PTF U or PTF for APAR PQ81761 (z/os) Performance and reliability enhancements for iseries WebSphere MQ V5.3 introduces substantial performance and reliability improvements at queue manager start and during checkpoints. The Queue manager startup times that would have previously taken several hours are reduced to a matter of minutes. The time to record a checkpoint following a journal receiver switch is drastically reduced. You can adopt a much more efficient journal receiver management strategy. The improvements also make journal replay more efficient and reliable at queue manager startup or when recovering media images of objects. Delivered in Fix Pack 6: PTF U New class of service for messages Non-persistent messages can be optionally retained across a queue manager shutdown and restart. For applications that do not require the highest level of reliability given by persistent messages, this may allow non-persistent messages to be used instead, with corresponding increases in performance. Delivered in Fix Pack 6: PTF U or PTF for APAR PQ81761 (z/os) Linux support for zseries encryption cards WebSphere MQ V5.3 running on Linux for zseries now supports the zseries PCICA card for asymmetric encryption. This offers enhanced performance of channel security for zseries processors that support the PCICA card, such as the z800, z900, or z990. Delivered in Fix Pack 7, refer to APARs/PTF and Fix Pack download site. Improved publish/subscribe performance Further improved performance for publish/subscribe applications add facilities to WebSphere MQ, to JMS, and the newly-integrated publish/subscribe broker that can improve WebSphere MQ persistent publish/subscribe performance for common usage patterns. Corresponding changes are made in the WebSphere Business Integration Brokers (see improved publish/subscribe performance with MQ). To be delivered in Fix Pack 8, refer to APARs/PTF and the Fix Pack download site. Integrate SupportPac MA0C MQSeries Publish/Subscribe into WebSphere MQ V5.3 Inclusion of this component removes the need to download it separately and ensures it is always at the same code level as the queue manager. It also removes any mismatch between end of service dates for WebSphere MQ and for the SupportPac. To be delivered in Fix Pack 8, refer to APARs/PTF and the Fix Pack download site. New MQ Client SupportPacs SupportPac for WebSphere MQ SOAP support (MA0R Category 2) MA0R enables you to flow a SOAP message Over a WebSphere MQ transport. The package reuses existing SOAP infrastructure and operates with Axis SOAP (for Java) and the SOAP stack embedded in the Microsoft.NET framework. This support permits interoperation between Web Services clients and servers written to run in either of these environments. MA0R enables the benefits of a WebSphere MQ infrastructure to be harnessed in popular Web Services environments. Benefits include: -- Reliability, queueing, and simple clustering -- A controlled environment -- Access to services where it is not convenient to deploy HTTP servers The popular SOAP infrastructures offer convenient, high-level, well tooled program interfaces with standard, interoperable message format (SOAP). This can make for easier programming of WebSphere MQ applications. SupportPac for HP-UX IPF Client (32-bit) (MQC1 This SupportPac contains the WebSphere MQ V5.3 C client for HP-UX on IPF (Itanium platform). This client implementation is for 32-bit execution and is not enabled for Secure Socket Layer (SSL) security. SupportPac for 64-bit Linux client (MAC0 This SupportPac contains the WebSphere MQ Client for Linux Itanium (64-bit). This first release of this client supports distributions based on United Linux V1/V2 or Red Hat Advanced Server V3. This product is based on the MQ V5.2 code and does not support WebSphere MQ V5.3 function (for example, SSL). Improvements to Message Broker Microsoft Windows 2003 Server Broker support This requires WebSphere MQ 5.3 Fix Pack 4 to be installed. The Configuration Manager (but not the Toolkit) is also supported on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (Standard and Enterprise editions). Delivered in Fix Pack 2: PTF U or V5.0.1 (z/os) Improved Publish/Subscribe performance with MQ Improves the performance when using WebSphere MQ persistent messages by reducing I/O calls and offering faster throughput. 4 Exploit MQ Class of Service for messages A new MQ Class of Service for non-persistent messages is exploited transparently giving higher performance and throughput. ESQL supports calling Java methods The Message Broker capability is enhanced so that ESQL message transformation routines can call Java methods directly. This allows Java to be used to manipulate and transform fields within messages. To be delivered in Fix Pack 4, refer to APARs/PTFs and Fix Pack download site. New SupportPacs SupportPac for Monitor Emitter Node (IB01 This SupportPac brings together WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker V5 (WBI MB) or WebSphere MQ Integrator Broker V2.1 (WMQIB), and Monitor V4.2.4 (WBI Monitor) for business monitoring capabilities. Business processes and activities span a variety of middleware environments. This SupportPac helps you track process flows as they proceed through WBI MB or WMQIB, gather appropriate information about the business flow, and highlight any out-of-line situations on the WBI Monitor dashboards. The benefit is improved visibility of your overall business process. SupportPac for AMiT node (IA0S With the use of AMiT (Active Middleware Technology), the nodes monitor the message flow, enabling the detection of (and reaction to) situations that may be defined over multiple messages. The situations that the nodes detect are configurable and are defined by applying a combination of logical, arithmetical, and temporal operators on messages and message attributes. Incorporating an AMiT-based node into a Message broker message flow harnesses the power of active behavior to the messaging application. This SupportPac, enabling reports of complex situations and routing of messages according to detected situations, provides a powerful extension to messaging applications. SupportPac for CICSRequest Node (IA12 The node takes an input message tree and uses the properties that you configure in the CICSRequest node to generate a CICS External Call Interface (EXCI) request. By configuring the properties of the CICSRequest node, you specify the communication area (known as COMMAREA) and the CICS transaction program name used in the CICS EXCI request. A response is returned in the COMMAREA (in the output tree) or in the area of the message that you specify when you configure the node. Control is passed to a node connected to one of the output terminals of the CICSRequest node. The CICSRequest node is supported only by brokers running on a z/os system. Note: SupportPac IA74 supports communication between MQSeries Integrator V2 and CICS, and SupportPac IA0W supports communication between WebSphere MQ Integrator V2.1 and CICS. Both of these SupportPacs require the CICS Transaction Gateway (CTG) to be installed and configured. However, SupportPac IA12 does not require this. SupportPac for VSAM Nodes (IA13 The VSAM node is to access VSAM datasets directly from a message flow and introduces five new nodes for reading, writing, deleting, and updating records in VSAM files on the z/os platform. These nodes are provided as plugin nodes for the WBI Message Broker. The types of VSAM files supported are; -- KSDS ( and KSDS_PATH) -- ESDS ( and ESDS_PATH) -- RRDS To be delivered in fourth quarter Product positioning In a service-oriented architecture, a connectivity layer often referred to as an Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) optimizes information distribution between service requesters and service providers. Each enterprise can develop its own unique ESB, reflecting how far it has advanced toward becoming an on demand business. As key members of the software portfolio, WebSphere MQ and WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker enable you to begin deploying your ESB today. These programs help maximize the value of an ESB by broadening the range of environments this connectivity layer can reach, such as hardware and operating system platforms and programming models such as J2EE and.net. The proven delivery mechanisms of WebSphere MQ provide ESBs with a reliable underpinning for enterprise-class connectivity. WebSphere Business Integration Message Broker adds services such as message routing and transformation and support for a range of message distribution options and protocols to improve their flexibility and performance. Business integration software from IBM enables you to begin reaping the benefits of service-oriented architectures and begin deploying ESBs today. IBM intends to continue enhancing and extending the portfolio of products and will release new versions of WebSphere MQ and Message Broker in the first half of These releases will make it even easier for you to build and extend your ESB by offering: Improved usability Enhanced management capabilities Better performance Extended connectivity Later this year, IBM will announce more about these extensions.
