Teaching and Learning In this course, you will learn the design and implementation of a software system We will learn app development This course emphasizes on the development process as well as the final product (a mobile app). Your have to decide the features of your app, design its blueprint, then implement it. You have to give a demonstrate. Throughout this course, you will learn: Cordova, Node.js, simple server side programming and UML Gabriel Fung 3
Cordova Cordova let you write mobile apps with HTML, CSS & JavaScript. It targets multiple platforms with one code base. It is free and open source. There are many other products based on Cordova PhoneGap Ionic IBM Worklight 2017 Gabriel Fung 4
Node.js Node.js is an open-source, cross-platform JavaScript run-time environment that executes JavaScript code outside of a browser. Cordova require using Node.js. Two related terminologies: npm (node.js package manager) and nvm (node.js version manager) Gabriel Fung 5
UML In short, UML is documentation. UML offers a standard way to visualize an objectoriented system's architectural blueprints. There are 14 different diagrams in UML 2017 Gabriel Fung 6
UML (cont'd) For example, a sample class diagram looks like this: Course # name: string # code: string : : 0..* 0..1 assigned assigned Clasroom # location: String # room: int : : A classroom can be assigned 0 to many courses A course can be assigned 0 or 1 classroom 2017 Gabriel Fung 7
Grading Tentative Structure Project Idea Presentation 10% Project Demonstration 40% Assignments x 2 10% Final Exam 40% Total 100% Assignments: individual Project: in a Group of 2 or 3 persons 2017 Gabriel Fung 8
Departmental Guideline for Plagiarism If a student is found plagiarizing, his/her case will be reported to the Department Examination Panel. If the case is proven after deliberation, the student will automatically fail the course in which he/she committed plagiarism. The definition of plagiarism includes copying of the whole or parts of written assignments, programming exercises, reports, quiz papers, mid-term examinations and final examinations. The penalty will apply to both the one who copies the work and the one whose work is being copied, unless the latter can prove his/her work has been copied unwittingly. Furthermore, inclusion of others' works or results without citation in assignments and reports is also regarded as plagiarism with similar penalty to the offender. A student caught plagiarizing during tests or examinations will be reported to the Faculty office and appropriate disciplinary authorities for further action, in addition to failing the course Gabriel Fung 9
