4 Basic Information - Below are a few basic changes with Blackboard. You will see these options while clicking within multiple areas of Blackboard. 1. Student View: You will generally be working within the editing mode; however, you have an option to see the course as students do. When making edits in your Blackboard course, make sure that the Edit Mode is set to ON. If this indication is set to OFF, then you are in the student view. If you want to get back to editing mode, then click the OFF button. 2. Help Button: Blackboard 9.1 has a help button that provides you with additional information about features. To see this information, click on the question mark on the top-left side of the page. To make the extra text disappear, click back onto the question mark. - In some case, like in the Grade Center, you have to option to click for More Help. - Peru State College Page 1
5 - 3. Pasting from Microsoft Word: - Before, when you would paste text from Microsoft Word, the text may appear differently than what you had intended. Now, with each text editing box, you have a Paste from Word option. The icon to click on is always listed on the bottom row, all the way to the right. - If the icon is not visible, expand the row on the bottom by clicking the down-arrow, on the left. - - To paste, you will not be able to simply right click and choose the paste option, as you may be familiar with. You must use keyboard commands. The new window will give you a reminder on how to paste. You must hold down both keys (CTRL and V) at the same time. Or, for Mac users, CMD + V. - - Peru State College Page 2

Click on in the lower right hand corner, and enter a value for the number or rows to display and click Go. Please note that the numbers of rows that can effectively be displayed is dependent on the resolution and size of your computer monitor. Adding Grade Columns Just like the previous version of Blackboard, whenever you deploy a test, assignment, use the discussion board grading feature, etc. a Grade Center column with the number of points you specific is automatically created. It will appear in the Grade Center as the last item. Use the directions found on page 27, in the Organizing the Grade Center section, to rearrange these columns. The directions below cover how to manually create Grade Center columns for cases when they are not automatically generated. To comply with College policy all online courses are required to have a Final Grade Column in the course. This column is used to enter the final letter grade submitted to the Registrar via MyPSC. To create this column click on, name the column Final Grade, change the Primary Display to, enter 0 for Points Possible and change Include this Column in Grade Center Calculations to, then click. To add a column for assigning bonus points you will use the default settings and enter a value of 0 in Points Possible. You no longer need to enter.001 as the point value. Hiding Grade Center Columns The column drop down has an additional option to this option will hide the column in question from your students Grade Books. The option will hide the column from your Grade Center, but it will still appear in your students Grade Book. When the symbol appears in your Grade Center, this indicates that the column cannot be viewed by your students. All columns without this symbol are able to be viewed by students. In addition, any columns that are hidden from your Grade Center view (these can be accessed going to, ) may still appear in your students Grade Books. Note: In the vast majority of cases, columns should not be hidden from your view or your students view in the Grade Center. If there is not a specific reason for the column and its data to be in your Grade Center, the column should be deleted from the Grade Center by using the option. If this option does not appear in the column drop-down, this means it is deployed somewhere in your course. It will be necessary to remove the item from the content area where it was originally deployed before removing it from the Grade Center. Peru State College Page 29
