9 Vorwort Structure of the manual 0 NCU D NCU572 NCU D i Structure of the descriptions All functions and operations have been laid out according to the same structure, as far as possible and practicable. The various levels of information have been structured so that you can find the information you are looking for quickly. 1. Function This theoretical section provides learning material for the NC beginner. This section explains the operations to the user. You should work through the manual at least once to get an idea of the scope of the functions and capability of your SINUMERIK control. 2. Operating sequence This section shows you which sequence of keys you have to press. If additional entries have to be made in the various operating sequences or if you require additional information, this is supplied next to the illustrations of the keys. 3. Further notes For safety reasons, some of the functions are protected from access by unauthorized persons. The machine-tool manufacturer can influence or modify the described functions. Please consult the information provided by the machine-tool manufacturer. SINUMERIK 840D/840Di/810D Operator's Guide HPU (BAP) Edition 0-9

12 0 Preface Rules for proper use 0 NCU D NCU572 NCU D i Principle Your SIEMENS 840D, 840Di, 810D and FM-NC have been designed and constructed to the latest standards of technology and recognized safety rules, standards and regulations. Additional equipment The applications of SIEMENS controls can be expanded by adding special additional devices, equipment and expansion units supplied by SIEMENS. Personnel Only authorized and reliable personnel who have been trained in the use of the equipment must be allowed to work with this equipment. Nobody without the necessary training must be allowed to operate the control, even temporarily. The responsibilities of the personnel who set up, operate and maintain the equipment must be clearly defined and adherence to these responsibilities monitored. Behavior Before the control is started up, the personnel who are to work on the control must be thoroughly acquainted with the Operator's Guides. It is also the duty of the operator of the equipment to carry out continuous observation of the technical state (detectable defects or damage as well as changes in the operating behavior) of the control. 13 Preface Rules for proper use 0 NCU D NCU572 NCU D i Service Repairs must only be carried out by special personnel who have been trained and qualified in the relevant technical subject according to information supplied in the service and maintenance guide. All relevant safety regulations must be followed. The following is considered to be improper usage and exempts the manufacturer from any liability: Any applications that deviate from the points mentioned above or applications over and above those described. If the control is not in technically perfect condition, is not operated with the necessary observance of safety regulations and accident prevention and instructions given in the Instruction Manual. If faults that might affect the safety of the equipment are not eliminated before the control is started up. Any alteration to, bypassing or disabling of the equipment on the control necessary for faultless functioning, unlimited use and active and passive safety. Unpredictable dangers to: life and limb of personnel, the control, machine and other assets of the owner and the user may result. SINUMERIK 840D/840Di/810D Operator's Guide HPU (BAP) Edition 0-13

In manual mode, you can set the increment size of the Jog keys (incremental traverse function, see Section 5.5), set the traversing speed (Override function, see Section 2.3.5). Requirements Put the system in the Stop or Reset state SINUMERIK 840D/840Di/810D Operator's Guide HPU (BAP) Edition

49 Manual Mode Operating Area Machine 5.2 JOG mode D i 5.2 JOG mode Functionality After a program interruption in automatic mode (e.g. in order to take measurements on the workpiece and correct the tool wear values or after a tool break) the tool can be retracted from and then traversed back to the Jog mode manually from the contour. Requirements You have pressed function key JOG (see Section 2.3.3): The 2nd field in the status line of the editing window then changes to "JOG". MACHINE 1! 2@ Q If you then pressed the rectangular key MACHINE, the Actual values MCS (Fig. 5.1, or WCS, depending on the selected coordinate system) editing window appears as default. If you change to this operating area at a later stage not the editing window described above appears but the last window that you selected. Caution When you switch on, the actual value display does not correspond to the actual position of the axes. Ignore the actual value display if the axes have not yet been referenced (see Section 5.3)! SINUMERIK 840D/840Di/810D Operator's Guide HPU (BAP) Edition 5-49

Sequence of operations - X / 1 + Traverse one of the axes with the corresponding JOG key by pressing either the + or side. The axis is traversed and the corresponding value is updated on the display. The axis stops traversing when you release the key or when the preset increment (see Section 5.5) has been reached. In this way you can traverse several axes simultaneously, which is not possible with the MCP (see Section 2.3.6). You can influence the traversing speed with the Override keys (see Section 2.3.5).
