58 5. Functions in SW 4 and higher Functions in SW 4.2 and higher The Graphic Programming System AutoTurn as from SW 4 has been extended to include the following functions: Extended blank shapes With the function "Free definition" you can define any blank using all the options available for creation of a finished part geometry: Cylinder / Taper / Circle / Contour / Compensation If your blank has an equidistant allowance around the finished part contour you can define the blank geometry with the function "Allowance finished part instead of using the free definition function. Face end machining Construction geometries In addition to the finished part geometry contours outside / inside available until now, three additional contour planes are suggested: Face end right Face end left Peripheral You can program holes, thread holes, slots and free contours (pockets, islands, open contours) on each of these three new contour planes. Using construction geometries the Graphic Programming System AutoTurn calculates unknown contour points from construction lines and circles. You can use this function, for example, to produce a free pocket contour initially using construction geometries and then put together the desired contour that you actually wish to machine from selected geometry elements Siemens AG All rights reserved.

59 Functions in SW 4 and higher Functions in SW 4.2 and higher Counterspindle The counterspindle functionality allows you to effectively machine turned parts on a machine with main spindle and counterspindle either asynchronously with one toolholder or synchronously with two toolholders. For a detailed description of the functions above, please refer to the AutoTurn Operator's Guide Part 1: Programming Siemens AG All rights reserved. 5-59

60 5. Functions in SW 4 and higher Functions in SW 4.3 and higher AutoTurn PC / AutoTurn Plus PC Functionality as with AutoTurn or AutoTurn Plus. The software runs on a conventional PC under Windows 95. Advantage: Preparing AutoTurn programs for job planning. Coupling to CAD systems The CAD coupling is used to process complex parts, which were constructed by the customer by means of CAD systems, by applying AutoTurn. CAD information must be saved in the form of DXF files. AutoTurn reads in these DXF files and filters the customer-specific information such as dimensions and shading etc. from this file. This saves programming for unmachined part and finished product processing. The data are stored in the Clipboard Siemens AG All rights reserved.
