Read this instruction first before the work starts. Approved mechanical and/or electrical installers, with professional competence, must do all work safe and responsible. Make sure it is available for installers and approved personnel. 2. SIGNAL WORDS (ISO ) This instruction contains safety instructions with different signal words. The list that follows gives the risk levels and possible effects of each signal word. Suggestion to perform an operation more effective. May result in damage or problems if an action is performed incorrectly. May result in minor injury if the hazard is not avoided. 2

RESIDUAL RISKS Automatic controls The Ridder drive-units are usually used in automatic controlled systems. Persons who do work or stay near the system must know about that. If persons or their clothes touch the system during operation, it can be dangerous. Persons can be in danger of life if they touch a system that is in operation. 4. SYMBOLS AND ABBREVIATIONS This chapter tells about used symbols and abbreviations in this instruction. The table that follows gives the descriptions. DESCRIPTION The TMCL Download Tool V1.04 is used to update software to a Ridder LogicDrive RLD motorgearbox. A check of the correct Software Version is possible with the RLD Control Panel. Installation of the Download Tool, the RLD Control Panel and the applicable Driver on a computer (PC) is necessary. These software applications are available to download on our website ridder.com. A USB cable connects the RLD motor-gearbox to the PC. Files of the different Software Versions for all RLD types are also included in the download of the Download Tool. 3

4 6. APPLICATION The TMCL Download Tool 1.04 and RLD Control Panel are Software Applications. These software applications are used to program LogicDrive RLD motor-gearboxes. The software applications are executable files (.exe) to run as a program in a computer (PC). It is only permitted to use the RLD Control Panel for the Software Version check (the control panel is usually applicable to program Modbus RLD types). Thus, for other (different) applications, approval from Ridder Drive Systems is necessary. 7. REMOVAL COVER RLD Removal cover Remove the bolts (4x) and the cover temporarily to do all necessary work. The gasket usually stays in its position. Make sure that no damage is caused to the gasket and that it does not become dirty. Install the cover again after the work! Refer to chapter 15. RLD V RLD80 - Modbus RLD V RLD200 - Modbus H2 (4x) If the RLD is installed and connected, obey the instruction of the signal word that follows: Make sure that the DIP-Switch S1 is set to the Teach-In Mode. This prevents that the automatic control-system (ACS) puts the drive unit into movement. Control is only manually possible on the control-board A2 (DIR A/B). Teach-In Mode 4

5 8. SPECIAL TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT The special tools and equipment that follow are necessary. Ridder Drive Systems (ridder.com) supplies items 2 and 3. 1 PC with USB cable - USB 2.0 Mini Type B Plug (5 position). 2 Application: TMCL Download Tool V1.04 with necessary files (software versions, driver and such). Refer to chapter 10 and Application: RLD Control Panel with necessary files ( driver and such). Refer to chapter 10 and 11. USB Software PC-USB TMCL Download Tool V1.04 RLD Control Panel 9. CONNECTION OF THE RLD TO THE PC Connection of the PC and RLD with the applicable USB cable to the USB connector (2.0 Mini Type B) on the motor board (A3). A power source is not necessary. 6 10. INSTALLATION OF THE DOWNLOAD TOOL AND RLD CONTROL PANEL Obey the steps that follow for installation of the Download Tool and Control Panel : 1. A - Application TMCL Download Tool V1.04 : Go to ridder.com to download the.zip file of the applicable RLD type. B - Application RLD Control Panel : Go to ridder.com to download the.zip file of the RLD type: RLD80 Modbus or RLD200 Modbus. Do steps 2 thru 6 for each application (A and B): 2. Right click in the context menu on the.zip file and click on Extract All Enter or browse in the dialog box Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders to an applicable folder where the files must be extracted. 4. Select the check box Show extracted files when complete to open the folder after extraction is completed. 5. Click on Extract button to start the extraction. 6. Click on the.exe file (icon) (in the applicable folder of step 3) to start the application. For easy access you can copy and paste the.exe file (icon) to your Desktop. Read the instruction of the signal word that follows: Refer to chapter 11, 12 and 13. These chapters contain information about the use of the other files (software versions and such) in the applicable folders (of step 3). 6

7 11. INSTALLATION OF THE DRIVER (for Download Tool and RLD Control Panel ) Installation of a Driver is necessary if you connect an RLD to the PC for the first time. The Download Tool and RLD Control Panel will not start without the applicable driver. Obey the steps that follow: The same driver (.inf file) is used for the two applications. Thus, only installation of one of the two application driver files (.inf) is necessary. 1. Connect the RLD with the computer (PC). 2. Open the Device Manager in Windows. 3. Go to properties of the RLD which is listed under Other devices as Trinamic Stepper Device. 4. Select Update Driver in tab Driver. 5. Select Browse my computer for driver software. 6. Select Let me pick from a list of device drives on my computer. 7. Select Show All Devices and Next. 8. Select Browse. 9. Select Driver RLD.inf and select Open. 10. Select Next. 11. Select Yes if a warning is shown. 12. Wait for Windows to install the Driver. 13. Select if prompted Install this driver software anyway. 14. The Driver is installed. You can do a check, in Device Manager, which COM Port number Windows gives to the RLD. 7

8 12. DIFFERENT SOFTWARE VERSIONS The table that follows shows the different RLD types. Select the applicable Software Version. DOWNLOAD OF THE SOFTWARE VERSION (Update) Obey the steps that follow to download the up-to-date software to the RLD: 1 Make sure that the driver installation (chapter 11) is done. 2 Connect the RLD to the PC with the USB cable. Connect the RLD to the PC before the application starts, to find the COM Port automatically. 3 Click on the icon TMCLDownload.exe and start the application TMCL Download Tool V Click on the three dots adjacent to the field TMCL binary file:. 5 Browse to the folder where you extracted the ZIP files. 6 Select Encrypted TMCL file (*.etm) in the bottom right field. Note: Make sure TMCL binary file (*.bin) is not selected! 9

10 7 Select the applicable Software Version (refer to chapter 12) and click on Openen. 8 Select in the field Interface: the correct COM Port. You can do a check, in Device Manager, which COM Port number Windows gives to the RLD. 9 Select the two check boxes: Set autostart option after download Run the program after download. 10 Click on Start to start the download procedure. Wait until the progress bar is completed and a dialog box shows Download succesful!. 10

11 11 Click on OK. Do not close the application (refer to step 13). If accidentally the two check boxes (step 9) are not selected: Select them after the progress bar is completed and click on OK and again on Start. If the progress bar is completed without the dialog box Download succesful! : Click on Start again. 12 Disconnect the USB cable from the RLD. Do not close the application (refer to step 13) To program more RLDs connect the USB cable to the next RLD. For RLDs of the same type: GO TO STEP 10. For RLDs of a different type: GO TO STEP 4. Remove stickers with the expired software version carefully, with your hand, from the motor board (A3) of the stepper motor. Put stickers with the up-to-date Software Version on the motor board (A3) of the stepper motor! Note: Ridder Drive Systems does not supply these stickers. 15 Click on Close to close the application. The download procedure is completed. 11

12 14. SOFTWARE VERSION CHECK WITH RLD CONTROL PANEL You can do a check of the Software Version with the RLD Control Panel. A 24 V DC power source is necessary. Obey the steps that follow to do the check: 1 Connect the RLD (control board A2) to a 24 V DC power source (if the RLD is not installed and connected). Note: Without a power source possibly the correct Software Version is programmed but readout is not possible with the application RLD Control Panel. 2 Connect the RLD to the PC with the USB cable. PROG DIR A DIR B LED A LED B DIP SWITCH 24 V DC Power Supply GND AIN RELAY +24V GND + 24 V GND A2 Connect the RLD to the PC before the application starts, to find the COM Port automatically. 3 Click on the icon RLD Control Panel.exe and start the application RLD Control Panel. 4 Select in the field COM Port the correct COM Port. 12

13 You can do a check, in Device Manager, which COM Port number Windows gives to the RLD. 5 Click on Open to start the version check. Different RLD types make two results possible if the software is correctly programmed. RLD type 0-10 V Control. GO TO STEP 6A. RLD type Modbus. GO TO STEP 6B. 6A RLD TYPE: 0-10 V CONTROL A dialog box tells: Software rev #.## is not supported. This shows the programmed Software version. Click on OK and go to step 7. Not supported only tells that the RLD Control Panel is usually applicable to Modbus RLD types. 6B RLD TYPE: MODBUS The field Software rev below the header Information shows the programmed Software Version. Go to step 7. 7 Click on X to close the application. The Software Version check is completed. Make sure that the DIP-Switch S1 is set to the Operating Mode. The automatic control-system (ACS) can put the drive unit into movement. Operating Mode 13

14 15. INSTALLATION COVER RLD Installation cover Always put the cover and the bolts (4x) back after the work. Problems with moisture and/or the IP protection rating (if applicable) must be prevented! Do a check of the gasket for dirt and damages. Tighten the bolts crosswise and gradually with the correct tightening torque. RLD V RLD80 - Modbus RLD V RLD200 - Modbus 2 Nm H2 (4x) 1.5 Nm 16.
