3 1/ Introduction nt Colorations is a module that allows users to create colorations from a multichannel document. You will be able to create multiple colorations of the same design and to export a single or multiple colorations to a document with customized presentations, and print them later if you like. 1.1 Technical requirements Macintosh 1. Adobe Photoshop CS6 - Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support - Mac Os X v or higher - 4GB minimum RAM memory (16GB recommended). 2. Adobe Photoshop CC (14.0/14.1/14.2) + Photoshop CC 2014 (15.2 or ) - Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support - Mac Os X v10.7 or higher - 4GB minimum RAM memory (16GB recommended). 3

4 2/ Installation and Activation of the Plug-ins In the new neotextil 8 version, the process of installation and activation of the plug-ins has been changed and made in such a way that you will only have to fulfill two steps. Even if you have older versions of the program, you won t have to remove or replace anything. The Adobe Extension Manager program is needed for this new process, so you will need to get such that program compatible with your Photoshop version. 2.1 Installation Have the installer which has been given to you in the USB memory with extension.zxp, or that you can download from ready. Remember that it may be used both for Mac and Windows systems. Open the Adobe Extension Manager and click on Install: Search the installer file and follow instructions until it is installed in the Adobe Extension Manager. The first step of the process is now completed. 4

5 2.2 Activation Plug in the nt dongle and run Photoshop. The first time you use this module you will be required to go through an Activation process. Open a design and click on File in the context menu bar, go to Automate, and then click on Activation Manager 8.0: nt The Product activation window pops-up: 5

6 On the upper field appears the dongle number. You may have more than one dongle in the USB ports in your computer. Check if you are going to activate the right one by viewing its information. For that, click on the information icon: Type your User and Company names. These two pieces of information are just for your recording, as they don t affect the activation process whatsoever. The last step of the Activation can be performed in two different ways, as we will see next Activation with.xdat file When you purchase the license from Inèdit, you will receive an.xdat file, which is used to Activate the plug-ins. Press Load, at the bottom of the Product activation window, and choose the.xdat file from your computer. 6

7 If everything s right, you will immediately get a notice of successful Activation: Manual Activation with Code If, for whatever reasons, you get from Inèdit and Activation Code instead of the.xdat file,you will need to type -or copy-paste- it on the Activation Code field, and then press Activate: 2.3 Opening nt Colorations Open an image with Adobe Photoshop, then display the drop-down option list from File menu bar, go to Automate, and finally click on neocolorations 8.0: 7

8 3/ Starting nt Colorations nt Colorations works with multi-channel files, so each separation must come in a separate alpha channels. When your design is opened in nt Colorations, the main window looks like this: In the module, in the upper left area, we find small scale previews of the Colorations, with different configuration options. In the middle there is a big Image preview. The list of Separations will be placed wherever you want them, and the Color Libraries are on the right. 8

9 4/ Color Libraries Color libraries are obviously a key point in this colorations program, and therefore several options for their management are offered in nt Colorations. When starting the program for the first time, you will not see any Color libraries, because you need to open them. On the bottom left corner of the window there is the button to open the Color libraries manager: Before any library is opened, the space will be empty, and none is shown: 4.1 Opening a Color library From the options unfolded from the Library menu on the right, go to Open, and then choose on your system any one with the extension.vdb and/or.csv You can have as many Color libraries loaded as you like. They will be available from the unfolded list: 9

10 If you wish to have more than one Color library open, first you need to indicate so from the libraries Setup button: A dialog pops up, where you can choose how many columns -libraries- and rows you want to view: For example, two columns will imply to have two spaces for two different Color libraries: 4.2 Color library layout Different color library layouts can be used in the module, which you can load from the ones you have in your computer. Click on the next highlighted icon and make the choice of a.lyt file: 10

11 4.3 Color library profiling Different color spaces and profiles can be applied to a Color library. Press the next highlighted icon to see the options given: 4.4 Importing colors to a Color library Hitting the furthest right button under a library, a dialog opens with the option to Import colors from another library: Another way to include new colors to a library is by reading them from an external support. To do this,choose Start read colors and follow the steps to calibrate your device, before the actual reading: 11

12 4.5 Creating a Color library From the Library menu, go to New: Select any of your color libraries that will serve as layout for the new library, and click Open from the buttons down the window: A small window will pop-up, with an empty field to name it: You can include as many colors from other libraries as you like, selecting and dragging them to the new space. When the color is in the new space, this will become highlighted, and then you must click the key (mac) or ctrl(pc) so that it stays. Colors from opened designs can also become part of the new library. Just select them with the color picker, and they will show on the bottom right part of the window.then drag it as explained before. 12

13 One last option to include colors in a library is selecting them from the colorations color patches on the left, or from the channels separations, and proceed with the dragging. 4.6 Color library printout Color libraries can be printed as per your convenience. Press the next highlighted icon and you will access the window with the print preview: On the left of the window there are several parameters for the print layout as for size, resolution, organization of columns and rows and number of pages to print. 13

14 4.7 Search tool The binoculars icon below the Color libraries allows for different types of search: When All is ticked means that the search will be done through all the libraries you have opened. As you search for Name or Code of a color, the editing field is highlighted and appears in white background, meaning that you can write on it: Searching for a Color differs in that the editing field appears in black, and hitting on it a color picker pops up. When you have chosen a color, the closest to it in your color library will appear, as well as the editing field with the color picked and the de difference between the two references: The icon beside the binoculars will cancel previous searches: 14

15 5/ Color management Double click on a coloration to open the Coloration options window. At the top of the window, Name, Localization and Setup options are given. The Localization of a colorway can be Local -the standard path is Users/USER/Documents/neoTextil/ Colorations- or Remote, if it is also published in neocatalog. To configure the connection between the two programs, please refer to section 17 in this manual. 15

16 Setups allow to save different settings with specific setup names. The list displayed shows your settings, and to include a new one click on New setup Then type the setup name that you wish, which will be ready for future colorways: Finally in this first section, you can lock the colorway so that it requires a password to make changes on it. This step is fully explained in section 15 of this manual. 5.1 Coloration section The values indicated in this section are, by default, the ones corresponding to traditional -separated- designs: When you tick the Simulate production box, the program will perform an ink calculation for production when mixing colors. The Predominance bar allows to toggle between the percentages of background ink and composition inks. 16

17 Fabric density bar allows to simulate different percentages of fabric density. The Darkness predominance shows a fixed value of internal file darkness calculation. Maximum ink level provides a maximum of 900 percent of ink level calculation, which would be needed to obtain black color when mixing grays and blues. 5.2 Color setups section With the Color setups options you can determine the space and profile that you need. Assign profile allows to change the profile, choosing a new one from the drop-down list. The Preserve Color numbers option maintains the value of colors in a new profile. Instead, if the option is not ticked, colors will change to the new profile. For example, if If you convert the value RGB (255,0,0) from the profile A to B, it changes to a new value RGB (233,5,0) keeping the same coloration. Instead, keeping the option ticked, if you assign the value RGB (255,0,0) from the profile A to B, the value RGB is the same but the color will change. 17

18 The Convert to profile option opens a new window: You can choose a new destination Space, change the Profile or the Render intents: 5.3 Proofer setup Using the options in the Proofer Setup -printer simulation- you determine the color space options on the printer, so that nt Colorations can show the color samples: Ticking on Use coloration profile the simulation parameters will be automatically updated. If you select Show proof colors you can see the printer simulation on the screen. 18

19 The Edit button opens a new window with further options: Once the changes are done, if you need to keep the same parameters on all new colors, just select Set as default. To save changes click Ok. 19

20 6/ Creating colorations Select New from the colorations menu -on the bottom right area of the window- or press +N to create a new coloration. When you double-click on a coloration, the Coloration options dialog appears, with options that were described in the previous section. Choosing Duplicate will create a second coloration, keeping the same settings. The Load option allows to choose a..xcm file from your computer, applying the color information to the channels of a design. 20

21 7/ Export and Import information of Colorations From the Colorations manager button on the bottom left corner display the list of choices. The three last options allow to Save or colorations in.xcm (only will be exported the selected colorations). Import.xcm files with information about the chosen Select the option Load to import the Coloration files: Select the options Save or Save All to save a file with information about all the colorations in your computer. 21

22 8/ Assigning colors from a Color library There are several ways to assign a color to a separation from the library of colors: The first is to select the color from the library and drag it on the color of the separation. Select the color from the library and press Ctrl + click on the separation (Mac) or use the secondary mouse button (PC). Use the keyboard to select the color from the library and press Alt+Intro. If you have a library with degraded colors, the most intense color will be applied. If you want to apply a lighter tone, select it while pressing the Alt key. 22

23 9/ Assigning colors from a Color picker Double-click on a channel separation, and you will access the Channel Options window: Various superposition Methods used by Inèdit can be selected from the following drop-down list. The option Inactive will deactivate the channel, and the other ones to color it. The Opacity of a color is selectable in percentages, and it reacts like a gradient: the lower the percentage the lighter the color will be. The Transparency of a color can also be changed by its percentage. All the above options can be selected for only one channel, but they can be applied to all the channels of a colorway if the box All is ticked. 23

24 A Color picker pops up when clicking on the color patch: You can choose from nt Colorations or Photoshop color pickers. Access the Preferences window from the button on the bottom left part of the main window: 24

25 10/ Exchange colors from separations To exchange colors from two separations, drag the color of one separation onto the other, by pressing the key (Mac), or the Ctrl key (PC). If you just want to copy a color, drag the color of one separation onto the other, but this time pressing the ctrl key. 25

26 11/ Channel separations view The separations patches can be customized as different layouts can be applied. Click on the following button under the small colorations previews: You will be directed to the Layout files in your computer: An example of a graded CMYK layout would look as follows: 26

27 12/ Print colorations Select the button with an arrow on the right corner: And get the print preview with the context menu on the right, to change various parameters: Set the values in the different groups of the Colorations window: Adjustments, Colorations, Size and Color Samples. 27

28 The Adjustments section allows for page size, custom or standard, and page orientation: You can choose the number of colorations to print in the Colorations section, placing them in Columns and Rows: According to the above settings, the print would look like this: If you wish to change the order of the colorations, click on any of them to change to the one you want for that position. The Colorway options becomes active, where you can select any coloration opened: Take into account that when you have many colorations opened, and you have the Multicolorations set, only the ones below the one you have selected will be in the print. 28

29 When you want to print only one coloration, do not tick the Multicolorations box. In Size, a list with options for the design dimension unfolds: Color Samples options are to determine first if we wish to include the color patches in the print or not. Tick the Export box to include them. The Options button above opens up a dialog to select the position of the Color patches within the printable page, and decide whether Background patch or Inactive patches shall also be included: The Change button takes us back to the computer s library Layouts with extension.lyt, in case we wish to change the layout of color patches. In the final section there are several options to save the document: Generate document in Photoshop exports a coloration and has to be saved when leaving nt Colorations module. The option When selecting Save file to disc you will choose a location. 29

30 13/ Create and export templates A Template is used to prepare and present several colorations in a customized way, vary the size of the color chips, the size of the colorations and enter the company logo. Open the Templates window with the bottom left button: Clicking on the Change button you will access the computer s location where your Templates are: 30

31 When you select a coloration from the preview window, the options for Coloration in this dialogue become active. You can change the colorations within the layout. Clicking on Channels a window pops up, where you can hide or show colors both in the designs and in the samples: 31

32 13.1 Editing information of technical cards Select the option Information from the colorations manager button: The option Template opens an.id layout with information about the user. It takes to the program files, where you can select the template you like. 32

33 14/ Measure colors with a spectrophotometer Open the Preferences dialog from the bottom left window, to find a section to set up the measure device or spectrophotometer: Choose the Device from the list given, in order to read a color directly on textile or on paper. You also have the option to make readings with UV filter. You will have to calibrate the white reference only the first time. Connect the Spectrophotometer and place the cursor on a color chip and double-click at the same time you press the + Alt key (on a Mac) or the Ctrl+Alt key (on a PC) place the reader in a white space and press Absolute. 33

34 The readings can be Simple or Triple. When you select Simple, the device will read the color reference directly on the color. The Triple option makes three readings and provides an average value based on them. 34

35 15/ Colorations protection Using the Colorway Options menu you can protect one or more colorations. Double click on a coloration to open the following window: If you select Lock Protection and hit ok, another window will open to enter a password. You have two options: 1) Soft lock - To leave the fields empty. You will just need to click on Unlock to deactivate it. 35

36 2) Hard lock- To deactivate the lock you need to enter the previously chosen password. When the lock is activated -either the soft or the hard-, it is shown in the small colorations previews: 36

37 16/ Save documents Select Preferences, and in the section Save, select the option Save the document before exiting. A back-up copy of the colorations is automatically saved every 30 seconds. If by any chance Photoshop shuts down unexpectedly, when you enter again into the module the following message box appears. 37

38 17/ Connection of nt Colorations to neocatalog nt Colorations can work with neocatalog. By configuring this, you will be able to download published colorways from neocatalog into nt Colorations, and to publish new colorways done in nt Colorations into neocatalog. In order that these two programs are connected we must configure two XML files in the working station. Both files are located in the folder Inèdit Software, in shared folders. 1. The first instance, to load colorways from neocatalog. Use: InSwLocalHostRipSetting.xml file You will see next an example of a set up.
