6 Introduction - Document Overview 1 Introduction 1.1 Document Overview This document provides a general overview of UnicView RD features, and descriptions of its tools and usage alongside a connected supported LCM (Liquid Crystal Module). 6 of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

7 Software Overview - Document Overview 2 Software Overview UnicView RD is a configuring, testing and debugging software tool, intended for use with compatible LCMs running the RD (Real Design) firmware. In addition to the main application, UnicView RD comes bundled with additional utility and productivity tools, referred to in this document as External Tools. 7 of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

17 Software Overview - Main Window Tool bar The tool bar is located right below the menu bar. It contains most of the tools presented on the tools menu, as well as the condensed serial port controls. Section Tools presents detailed description of several tools. The tool bar is divided into functional groups (Figure 9). For example, the Alignment and Resizing group, detailed in Figure 10. 18 Software Overview - Secondary Windows 2.2 Secondary Windows Screen View This is the main work area, and shows a preview of the images and their objects. Figure 11 - Screen View There are three zoom levels (1x, 2x, 4x), selectable on the controls at the top-right region of the window. It is possible to select between three visibility options, on the Display: dropdown menu, described in Table 7. 20 Software Overview - Secondary Windows Terminal This window is used to send and receive commands to/from the LCM. Figure 13 - Terminal window The upper box (log text box) shows both incoming (in red) and outgoing (in blue) data. Its contents are cleared by clicking the [Clear] button. The lower box is used for user input of serial commands, which are sent to the LCM by clicking the [Send] button. The data format must be Hexadecimal. Spaces are ignored. 20 of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

21 Software Overview - Secondary Windows Images This window handles image addition, deletion and selection on the project, as well as picture downloading, saving and switching on the LCM. Figure 14 - Images window To add pictures to the project, click the [+] button. All images on the project must be name according to the template bellow, and cannot have overlapping PicIDs. For example, 123_Intro.bmp or 1_Main.bmp are valid names. The resolution of the images must match the project s resolution in order to be downloaded correctly to the LCM, even though the Screen View window s preview stretches incorrect resolutions. #_<name>.bmp, where # represents an integer in the [0, 65535] range, and <name> is an optional string. After selecting the desired files, the Define PicIDs dialog will appear. All filenames that are already named according to the template, will have their PicIDs suggested on the PicID column (Figure 15). Any filename incorrectly named will have the PicID set to -1 (Figure 16). In case of PicID overlapping (Figure 17) or images without PicIDs allocated (Figure 18), errors will be generated, and the issue must be resolved before continuing, or the addition must be canceled. 21 of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

Multiple rows can be selected by holding the CTRL or SHIFT keys. The Images window includes Jump and Save controls, which send the Jump to PicID and Save to PicID commands, respectively. The Jump control changes the current PicID show on the LCM, and the Save control stores the current screen state of the LCM to the indicated PicID. Figure 19 - Images window (detail) The lower region of the window contains the image downloading controls. This process sends all the selected images to their respective PicIDs on the LCM, and is initiated by clicking the [Start] button. The Top-Speed option enables download at 6.250Mbps, provided that the LCM supports this baudrate. It is also possible to send images in 16-bit and 24-bit format, according to the LCM s requirements. 24 of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

25 Software Overview - Secondary Windows Object Parameters The selected object(s) properties are shown on this window. Figure 20 - Object Parameters window. Left: Undocked, no objects selected. Right: Docked, Touch Button selected If more than one object of the same type is selected, the values that are equal across them are shown. The other values are left blank, and can be edited to make all of them equal. If more than one object type is selected, only the equivalent parameters are displayed. The user inputs most of the parameters manually, but some have a Selector Window or have a Dropdown List to choose from predefined values. Parameters which have a Selector Window or a Dropdown List exhibit an icon on the right side of the value column when clicked: Dropdown List Selector Window A Selector Window is a dialog window used to set the associated parameters visually. 27 Software Overview - Serial Port Communication 2.3 Serial Port Communication The serial port is used to establish bilateral communication with connected LCMs, using standard UART protocol. It can be accessed on the condensed controls (Figure 22) or the expanded window (Figure 23). If additional parameters must be changed, the expanded window should be used. 28 Software Overview - Serial Port Communication Attempting to open the port without selecting a port name results in a taskbar icon warning (see section ) Handshake In order to check if the communication is operating correctly, and to read the firmware version, the [Handshake] button may be used. If successful, a taskbar icon info will appear. See section Baudrate The data transfer rate, or baudrate, must match the current LCM s baudrate in order to stablish a working connection. 29 Software Overview - Objects 2.4 Objects All objects, except from the Touch object, display their serial command on the Serial Command preview box (Screen View window), which can then be sent to the LCM, or copied to the clipboard Touch Button Defines a region of the touch panel that will be considered a button. When touched, the button may perform a Jump to PicID operation and a pressed effect, and will send a 0x78 serial command with the Command parameter s value. The pressed effect is usually achieved by having a duplicate image with all button regions displaying a pressed style. To generate the TouchConfig file, containing the Touch Button mapping, use the Generate TouchConfig File tool. To send it to the LCM, use the Generate TouchConfig File (Section ). 30 Software Overview - Objects Usage example Supposing the picture on PicID 1 is as shown in Figure 25, and the picture on PicID 4 is as shown in Figure 26, a Touch Button object is created on PicID 1, with the Fx property set to 4, and Jump property set to 0. 38 Software Overview - Objects The Selector Window is used to set the paste location and the rotation center of the copied area. Both locations are set by clicking on the preview area (left region of the window), after clicking the [Set Box] or [Set Center] buttons. The preview image may be chosen from the thumbnail list on the right region of the window. 39 Software Overview - Objects Icon Definition (IconDef) Defines a rectangular area on its PicID, associated to an IconID, which can be later accessed via the IconFromDef object. An Icon Definition File file is created based on all IconDef objects, which contains the information used by IconFromDef objects. To generate the IconDefinition file, containing the IconDef mapping, use the Generate IconDefinition File tool. To send it to the LCM, use the Generate IconDefinition File (Section ). The Icon Definition File file must be downloaded to the LCM before using this object. The LCM displays three crosses on screen, which must be precisely touched to calibrate correctly the touch panel s coordinates. 47 Software Overview - Tools Command Group The RD firmware supports auto-execution of groups of up to 128 commands. The Command Group tool provides the user with the ability to create up to 16 command groups. Only one (or none) group may be active at any time. The command structure works exactly like the Command List window s structure. After filling the desired fields, the Command Group File must be generated and sent to the LCM. Figure 50 - Command Group tool The command group lists may be saved and loaded, using the [Save] and [Load] buttons on the top-right region of the window. The command list file has the extension *.cgf. The delay time is given in increments of 8ms. Frame Header (AA) and Frame Tail (CC33C33C) must not be included on the commands. 47 of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

48 Software Overview - Tools Adjust RTC Used to set, read, show and hide the Real Time Clock Write Writes the selected date/time to the LCM. All the sub-tools that need coordinates can be configured by inputting the values manually, or by clicking the [Set] or [Set Window] buttons and some coordinate(s) on the preview area. When changed, the port settings must be adjusted accordingly Param 1 and Param 2 Several configuration options for the LCM. Param 2 also has a checkbox that determines if the Parameters Settings should be permanently saved to the LCM. Otherwise, all changes are volatile, and will be reset after a LCM reboot. Each parameter on Param 1 and Param 2 is associated to a single bit, named Py.x. Description of each bit is given in Table 21 and Table of 63 User Guide Rev 1.0

This information can be accessed by opening the ErrorReport.txt file. If the failure persists, this error report file may be sent to Proculus Technologies Customer Support for analysis. When changing the project resolution to a smaller resolution, objects are not re-dimensioned, and may end up outside the image area.
