34 Abbreviation Expansion Abbreviation Expansion is an option in the WORD PREDICTION MENU. Abbreviation expansion allows you to type abbreviations of words you use a lot in many contexts, such as your name and address, greetings, or phrases like "I don't know" or "In my opinion", etc. You enter the abbreviation, then the whole word or phrase. For example, you might tell the Essence PRO to type and speak "I don't know" when you enter the abbreviation "idk", or to type and speak your name when you enter your initials. Any abbreviation expansion you enter will override any matching abbreviation or word of the same letters that is already in your Essence PRO. For example, if you enter "add" as the abbreviation for your address, whenever you type "add" you will get your address instead of the word "add". Use something like "adr" or "ads" instead so the word "add" is still available for you to use. As with Word Prediction, you use a menu to add abbreviations to the Essence PRO. 76 Saving Memory One of the most important things you can do after personalizing your Essence PRO is to save its memory. If, for some reason your device should lose power, or crash, you could lose a great deal of customized work. Names or new words added to Word Prediction, names and phone numbers added to the phone book (see the Operator's Manual for information on this), remote control signals added to your device, even messages you created yourself, may all be lost unless you have saved your device's memory. You received a USB drive in the box with your device. Use this drive to back up your device memory. Plug the drive into the rectangular port on the right side of device case. During a transfer you see a yellow box. CUSTOMIZING ESSENCE 78
