1 PowerScan 2000 Microfilm Scanning Workstations To print to a network printer or save to the U drive, one must have a GC network account (GC students/faculty only)and login to the workstation adjacent/attached to the microfilm scanner. Non GC users can still save scans, create PDFs and save to their flash drives. Logging in to microfilm workstations for GC Students and Faculty: If the computer is currently logged on, you may log off and log on with your GC user account to use the microfilm workstation for printing, saving, etc. Logging in to microfilm workstations for non GC users: If the computer is not currently logged on, you may press Ctrl+Alt+Del and restart the microfilm workstation so that the workstation will be automatically logged on for your convenience. 1. Insert your media on plate of scanner. Note: The PowerScan 2000 is able to read microfilm, microfiche and micro opaque. 2. Using the power switch in the rear of the scanner, turn on the scanner. PowerScan Power Switch 3. Login to adjacent computer and click on the PowerScan2000 icon on the desktop. The software will launch and when the computer discovers the scanner the scanner lamp will turn on. PowerScan 2000 Icon

2 4. After queuing up the frames you want to scan, click on <Scan to Hard Drive> icon. Repeat for each frame you want scanned. PDF(s) will be created in a < Scans> folder on the desktop. Note: During scan Powerscan software will provide an indicator that the file is being saved to C:\Public\Users\Desktop\Scans\ scan****.pdf. Note the name of the file scan****.pdf. 5. After all scans are complete, launch Adobe Acrobat Pro. Icon should be on the desktop and looks like this: 6. After launched, click on <Create> icon in the top left corner and select Combine Files into Single PDF. Or you can, select File=>Create=> Combine Files into Single PDF. Create Icon

3 Combine Files into a Single PDF 7. The <Combine Files> Dialog will appear. Combine Files Dialog 8. From the <Add Files> menu dropdown select <Add File>s or <Add Folders> (only if you deleted previous PDFs and your PDFs only in <Scans> folder).

4 Selecting Add Files command 9. A navigation window will appear. If not already in < Scans> folder, navigate to it on the desktop. Select PDFs you want combined and click <Add Files> button. Note: Location of Scans folder is C:\Users\Public\Desktop\Scans\ Note: If you noted the name of the file in step 4 for scan****.pdf, you can select that file and all subsequent sequentially numbered files. 5 10. The <Combine Files> dialog will re appear, with individual PDFs queued, click on <Combine Files> button. Combine Files Dialog with individual PDFs queued 11. A PDF will be created and Acrobat will reveal your new document. Save/Name in Acrobat (File=>Save As). You can either save file to your flash drive, it or save to your U drive (if you logged in to workstation with your network ID). Additional Information The PowerScan software uses graphic buttons to control the features of the scanner. This guide is meant to get you started, for more information, mouse over a button or CLICK the Help button plus any button on the tool bar. Although not a comprehensive list of all the buttons, the following buttons are the most commonly used. Button Function Description Film Selection CLICK to return to the start screen that shows Wizard graphic icons of different film types. CLICK on the icon that matches your film type to set up the scanner for that film. Use to select Positive, negative or opaque.

6 Film Type Use to select Positive, negative or opaque. Brightness Use the AB button for auto brightness. Use the + and buttons to manually adjust brightness. Contrast Use arrow buttons to adjust contrast. Film Orientation Focus CLICK to rotate the camera 90 degrees to match the orientation of the image on the film (insures maximum resolution).horizontal if the image on your film is wider than it is high. Vertical if the image on your film is higher than it is wide. Use the arrow buttons to manually focus the image or AF to auto focus. Magnifier CLICK the magnifier to open magnifier window and use the arrow to select magnification value. Zoom Use arrow buttons to zoom entire image. Line Straighten CLICK the button and then CLICK two points on any straight line on the image. CLICK Stop to abort. Auto Straighten CLICK to automatically straighten an image (image must have borders). Rotate 90 degrees CLICK to rotate the image on the screen (each click rotates the image on the view screen 90 degrees). Mirror CLICK to mirror the image on the view screen..

7 Auto Adjust CLICK to automatically adjust brightness, contrast, straighten and crop the image (Image must have borders). Auto Crop CLICK to automatically crop the film image (image must have borders). SPOT-Edit CLICK the SPOT-Edit button to open the drawing tools. SPOT-Edit tools CLICK the pencil tool and draw around the area to be changed. Adjust brightness and contrast controls, or select erase or redact. CLICK Stop to restore. Scan Resolution Use to set the scanning resolution. 150 DPI for text or 300 for images. Scan Size Scan Mode Print CLICK the down and up arrows to change the image size (the dimensions are shown on the Crop Box). CLICK AS to auto size to the paper size (normal mode). CLICK to toggle: 1. Enhanced Gray scale (recommended). 2. Gray scale. 3. Black & White. CLICK to print. Scan HD CLICK to save the image within the green crop box to the Hard Drive. Scan USB CLICK to save the image within the green crop box to the USB Drive.
