3 Introduction The Temp-Taker 3 software application stores all data and settings in a database file. The database file is named TT3Database.sdf and is located in the following directory: Windows 7 & 8: C:\ProgramData\Temp-Taker 3\Data Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Temp-Taker 3\Data If your current PC or tablet running the Temp-Taker software is going to be replaced, the existing database file from the old machine should be copied over to the new machine when it is placed into service. This will preserve all stored data, and will also replicate the current Temp-Taker setup on the new machine. This document explains how to copy your current database to the new machine. The ProgramData folder (in Windows 7 & 8) and the Application Data folder (in Windows XP) may be hidden. If this is the case on any of your machines, see document #T3FA01 How to Locate the Database File. If you plan to use one machine to perform setup changes on the handheld device(s) and the other machine to upload and store data, please see document #T3FA13 Using Multiple PCs In The Same Location. 3

4 Copy Current Database to New Machine Before disconnecting the old machine or just before the new machine is placed into service, make a copy of the TT3Database.sdf file that s in the old machine. The file may be stored on a flash stick or (if small enough) sent via to yourself. Install the latest Temp-Taker software on the new machine; but do not launch the application yet. Immediately after installing the software on the new machine, replace the automatically created fresh TT3Database.sdf file with the copy made from the old machine. Do this while the Temp-Taker software application is closed. TIP: Instead of overwriting the fresh database file, you can preserve it by changing its name. For example, rename the TT3Database.sdf file that installed on the new machine to TT3Database(fresh).sdf and then paste the TT3Database.sdf file copied from the old machine in the C:\...\Temp-Taker 3\Data folder of the new machine. The Temp-Taker application will always use the database file with the name TT3Database.sdf. IMPORTANT: Make sure to replace the database file on the new machine before connecting a handheld unit to it. The reason for this is that if the handheld contains stored data, it will upload to the current TT3Database.sdf file. If the database file hasn t yet been replaced, the data will be stored in the newly installed database file while all the previous data remains in the database file of the old machine. There s currently no provision to integrate data from two separate database files. 4

5 Copy Current Database to New Machine (continued) Start the Temp-Taker 3 software application on the new machine. If the old machine will remain in service, make sure one of the following steps are taken to ensure data will no longer upload to the old machine in case a Temp- Taker handheld is inadvertently connected to it. Uninstall the Temp-Taker software application. Data cannot upload to a PC if the Temp- Taker software isn t running. If you would like to keep the Temp-Taker software installed on the old machine, then select the Download Temps Setup and Settings only option under the Station Functionality section of the Settings Security Options tab (see figure below). Note: If PINs are required to log into the software application, then someone with Admin-level access will need to perform this change.
