2 WATS Client installation Download the WATS Client from Remember to select the correct installation file depending on what operating system you run (32 or 64 bit). Run (double click) the downloaded.msi file. If WATS version 2.3 or older are already installed on the computer, refer to chapter Uninstall WATS Test Station 2.3 at the end of this document. To upgrade the Client from a previous version, see the WATS Client Upgrade section below. Step 1 The start page displays the version of the WATS Client that will be installed. Click Next > to continue. Step 2 Read and accept the terms in the License Agreement. IMPORTANT: Carefully read the license before using this Product. Installing, copying or otherwise using WATS indicates your acknowledgement that you have read the license and agreed to its terms. Click Next > to continue. page 2 of 15

3 Step 3 Enter your information. The License Number can be found in the WATS License Letter. Select the appropriate license type, and click Next > to continue. Step 4 Ready to Install Click Install to continue. page 3 of 15

4 Windows may display a UAC warning. Click Yes/Allow/Continue to continue the installation Step 5 You have now successfully installed the WATS Client. Click Finish page 4 of 15

5 Configure the WATS Client To launch the Client applications, right click on the WATS Icon in the notification area. Select Configure Step 1 Enter the Location and Purpose of the computer Optionally, enter the GPS coordinates of the computer (allow you to see the location of the computer in the WATS Station Map). Step 2 Enter Proxy settings, if any (click on the Proxy settings link on the left hand side) Step 3 Click on the Settings link in the WATS TDM sub menu on the left hand side. Enter the Service address to the WATS Report Center (contact your local WATS administrator for correct address). Click Apply. page 5 of 15

6 Dependent on your OS and security settings, you may be prompted with one of the following two questions. Windows 7: Windows XP: Click the Yes or OK button to continue. page 6 of 15

8 Step 4 NI TestStand add-on If you are to use the WATS Client for fully automated reporting, you must install the NI TestStand add-on (This requires that NI TestStand is pre-installed). Click on the NI TestStand add-on link in the WATS TDM sub menu. Select the version of TestStand you want to configure, and click Install. NOTE: Make sure any TestStand and LabVIEW application is closed. You should now be able to launch TestStand and successfully log to WATS. For Status, open the WATS Client Monitor. page 8 of 15

9 NI LabVIEW add-on To utilize the WATS TDM LabVIEW toolkit, click on the NI LabVIEW add-on link in the WATS TDM sub menu. Select the version of LabVIEW you want to configure, and click Install. Restart LabVIEW after the installation. Refer to the WATS TDM LabVIEW toolkit User Manual for additional help. WATS.NET API The WATS.NET API is automatically installed with the WATS Client, and can be used for creating UUT (Unit Under Test) or UUR (Unit Under Repair) reports from an stand-alone Visual Studio application, or other programming languages supporting.net assemblies. Please see the help file for detailed descriptions. WATS MES To utilize the new WATS MES modules (Workflow, Software, Product & Production), you must enable MES at the Client. The modules must be installed on the Master Server. Read more at virinco.com/wats page 9 of 15

10 Check the MES Enabled checkbox and type the Service Address. Then click Apply. You can now use the WATS MES functionality in the WATS API, or execute the WATS MES Test UUTs execution entry point in TestStand, allowing you to force a workflow on the Units, download software (sequence files, VIs, other files and folders) or retrieve Product Information from the WATS Server. 11 WATS Client Upgrade You can upgrade WATS Client version 3.x and 4.0 to version 4.1. Download the WATS Client from and store it locally. Remember to select the correct installation file depending on what operating system you run (32 or 64 bit). Run (double click) the downloaded.msi file. Upgrade a single computer The installer will detect a previous Client version and automatically display the Upgrade window. Click Upgrade to continue. Windows may display a UAC warning. Click Yes/Allow/Continue to continue the installation page 11 of 15

12 Click Finish to complete the upgrade. Batch upgrade. If your connected computers/ate s run the WATS Client Version 4.0, batch upgrade through the WATS Control Panel is supported. Update procedure: Login to the WATS Control Panel and select Configure/Settings and Client Update. Click on the Browse button and select the downloaded msi file (locally on you computer). Click Start to upload the client to the server Confirm by clicking OK. Next time the client is executed (computer restart), it will automatically update the client. NOTE: Automatic Update is supported in the 4.0 version and above. To upgrade from version 3.1 to 4.0, the msi file must be executed locally on each client. During update, WATS also updates all TestStand support files (WATS Mode files, IdentifyUUT.vi, etc). page 12 of 15

13 Client Activation WATS Servers can be configured to require client activation before accepting UUT/UUR reports (server setting). When enabled, new clients will appear in the System Manager as Not Activated. To activate a client: Install the WATS Client on the ATE/Computer and type in the proper Service Address Login to the WATS Control Panel and select System Manager. Select the new Client (Clients that are not activated is marked with a lock, and a Not Activated status) Click on the Activate button to activate the client Next time the client is executed (computer restart), the client status will change from Not Activated to Online. NOTE: Client Activation is default disabled at the servers. Activation must be performed at all server-levels. page 13 of 15

14 Uninstall WATS Test Station 2.3 If you install the WATS 3.1 Client on a computer that previously had the WATS Test Station 2.3 installed, you must complete the following steps to make sure the latest version of the WATS Client components and configuration files are installed. 1. Make sure you have no pending UUT reports 2. Uninstall WATS Test Station Make sure the following files and folders are removed from the computer. TestStand 3.X and 4.0: - C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand X.X\Components\User... \WATS_Models \WATS_ModelSupport \WATS_StepTypes \TypePalettes\WATS_Types.ini - C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand X.X\CodeTemplates\User\WATS-XXXX-LabVIEW (Delete the 4 folders) - C:\Program Files\National Instruments\TestStand X.X\Cfg\TestStandDatabaseOptions.ini TestStand 4.1 and above: Form the <TestStand Public> directory (the files/folders are located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\TestStand XX on Windows XP and at C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand XX on Windows Vista and Windows 7): - \Components\WATS_Models - \Components\WATS_ModelSupport - \Components\WATS_StepTypes - \Components\TypePalettes\WATS_Types.ini - \CodeTemplates\WATS-XXXX-LabVIEW (Delete the 4 folders) From the <TestStand Application Data> directory (This directory is hidden by default and located at C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\National Instruments\TestStand XX on Windows XP and at C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\TestStand XX on Windows Vista and Windows 7): - \Cfg\TestStandDatabaseOptions.ini You should backup the files you want to keep by copying them to a different location before deleting 4. Optionally, uninstall the Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000). Make sure no other applications use the database. 5. Restart the computer page 14 of 15

(WATS Client can run on Windows Vista 64 bit but Virinco does not support this version of Windows) Microsoft.NET framework 3.5 SP1 (Client Profile) Pentium 4/M or equivalent processor (Pentium III, Celeron 866 MHz, or equivalent minimum) 1 GB of memory (256 MB minimum) 200 MB minimum of free hard disk space Connection to WATS Server Optional TestStand Add-on: TestStand version 3.1, 3.5, 4.0, 4.1, 4.1.1, 4.2, 4.2.1, 2010/SP1 (4.5, 4.5.1), 2012 (5.0), 2013 (5.1).. (WATS add on for TestStand 3.X and 4.X supports LabVIEW or above. TestStand 2010 supports LabVIEW or above. TestStand 2012 supports LabVIEW or above.
