STUDENT INSTUCTIONS A. Start Arcview, double click the Views icon to open a New View. Click the Add Theme button and navigate to the QSTART directory (c:\esri\av_gis\avtutor\arcview\qstart). Double click states.shp to place it in the Views Table of Contents. Turn it on by clicking the check box and make it active by clicking anywhere on the states.shp text. B. Open the Theme table by clicking on the Open Theme Table button. 5
C. We need to add fields to the table by editing the table. Try to edit by clicking the Table Menu. The Start-Editing button is grayed out. The program will not allow you to make changes to themes in the qstart directory so we will have to create a new theme. D. Close the table and return to the view. Select the Theme menu and click Convert to Shapefile this will take you to a save directory. Select the directory you have been assigned and name the file USA_Expansion, click ok. Click the yes button when it asks you to add it to the view. To avoid confusion you may want to delete the original States.shp by clicking edit and then delete theme. Be careful you do not delete your new USA_Expansion theme. E. Now we can begin editing the new theme table. Make sure you have the information you need to complete the table. Click the Open Theme Table button then click the Table menu and select Start Editing. 6
F. We will now add the fields we need for our project. (The number of fields will depend on the list given to you). Note: there are four existing fields we will leave intact G. Under Edit menu click Add Field, which will take you to the Field Definition Dialogue. H. The Field Definition dialogue has four boxes to fill in. We will use the first three. I. In the Name field type ORIGIN : In the Type field use the down arrow to select String. Leave the Width field at "16". J. Follow the same procedure for ORIGINAL OWNER, HOW ACQUIRED (note: ORIGINAL OWNER would be the owner prior to the USA taking over) K. For the STATEHOOD DATE field change the Type to Date. Use this format for all dates; July 4 th, 1776 would be entered as in the Theme Table. If you are entering only the year use the Number Type. L. For the ORDER OF ADMISSION field change the Type to number. M. Save the project in the assigned directory/folder. ENTERING DATA A. It is important to be extremely careful entering data. All field data must be entered exactly the same. For example if you enter LP in one field you may not enter lp in another field. You must enter LP in all fields. B. If desired the States Field in the Theme Table can be sorted alphabetically by first selecting the State Name field then clicking the Sort Ascending button. C. If the first state to be entered is Alabama select the Edit tool and click in the Origin field for Alabama and type TP : In the Original Owner field type GB In the How Acquire field type WAR. In the Statehood date type
(December ) or just 1819 if you are entering the year only. In the ORDER_ADMISSION type 22. D. Continue the above steps for each of the states. Save frequently in your designated directory/folder. Use the Data Dictionary below to enter abbreviations. If you use capital letters you must use capitals for all entries. Do not switch between capital and lower case letters. AOT = ADAMS ONIS TREATY CW = CIVIL WAR JO = JOINT OCCUPATION LP =LOUISIANA PURCHASE MC =MEXICAN CESSION MOCOMP =MISSOURI COMPROMISE O13 =ORIGINAL 13 STATES PUR =PURCHASE TA =TEXAS ANNEXATION TP =TREATY OF PARIS 1783 (Territories that entered the United States right after the Revolution and later became states) ANX =ANNEXATION GB =GREAT BRITAIN (NOT AN ORIGIN, FOR ABREVIATION USE ONLY) For the How-Acquired field use the following terms: TREATY, PURCHASE, WAR and ANNEXATION. E. When finished entering the data open the TABLE menu and click STOP EDITING. Select YES when prompted to save and navigate to your assigned save directory. Your table should look like the example below. 8
F. Check the accuracy of your data entry by opening the QUERY BUILDER tool and building a query based on Origin =. Look for any instances of erroneous double entries such as LP / lp. Correct any errors. There is one error in the Values list above. See if you can find it. Rename View 1 "USA_Expansion" by opening the View Menu Properties dialogue and changing View 1 to USA_Expansion. ANSWER THE FOLLOWING QUESTIONS: You may have to use a textbook to answer some of the questions. 1. How many states were made from the Louisiana Purchase? 2. How many states were made from the Mexican Cession? 3. Who was the President that was responsible for the Louisiana Purchase? 4. Which four Origins led to only one state each being admitted into the Union? 5. Describe how West Virginia and Maine are different from other territories that later became states? 6. Which two nations lost the most territory to the United States? 7. Using a textbook discover which Origin (s) the slogan or fight refers to. 8. Which Origin brought the most land area into the Union? 9. Which Origins were Spanish speaking before they became part of the United States? 10. In which two Origins were there major gold discoveries? 9
HOT LINKING We are going to create a Hot linked map of our Manifest destiny/expansion project. When completed we will be able to click any part of the United States to bring up a separate map of its Origin. 1. First, we need to create a new view for every Origin. 2. Make Usa_Expansion.shp active. Click the Query Builder tool and create the following query. Click the New Set button and close the Query Builder. 3. Open the Theme Menu and select Convert to Shapefile. Name the new theme ANNEXATION and save in the assigned folder. Add it to the view when asked. Make ANNEXATION the active theme. 10
4. Make the Project Window active. Select View then click New. This will open a new view (View 1). Rename the View ANX using the View Menu Properties dialogue. Make the USA.Expansion View the active View. (Make sure Annexation.shp is the active theme). Open the Edit menu and select Cut Themes. Make the Project window active. 5. Open the blank ANX View you created in #4 and select the Edit menu then Paste (or click Ctrl 'V"). Turn on and make active the ANNEXATION 11
theme. Label the state with the Label tool. 6. Follow the same procedures (# s 1-5 above) for each of the Origins. Use the following abbreviations for the new View(s) names. (Note: do not change View names after you have set up hot links). Rename the Themes, ANX =Annexation, LP = Louisiana Purchase etc. in the new Views. You can use the full names (i.e. ADAMS ONIS TREATY) for the theme names within each of the new Views. Remember the new Views names are the same abbreviations you used when you edited the theme table for the USA_Expansion theme. VIEW NAMES: THEME NAMES AOT = ADAMS ONIS TREATY CW = CIVIL WAR JO = JOINT OCCUPATION LP = LOUISIANA PURCHASE 1803 MC = MEXICAN CESSION MO = MISSOURI COMPROMISE 1820 O13 = ORIGINAL 13 STATES PUR = PURCHASE TA = TEXAS ANNEXATION TP = TREATY OF PARIS 1783 ANX = ANNEXATION 12
7. Next we will set up the Hot Link parameters. Make sure USA_Expansion is the active view and the USA_Expansion theme is active. 8. Open the Theme menu then Properties and scroll down to Hot Link. Click the Hot Link button to turn on the Theme Properties dialogue. 9. Fill in the fields using the example below 10. The Hot Link tool should now be active. With the tool active click anywhere on the map and one of the new Views you created will appear. 13
11. We can make our project more attractive and informative by adding additional graphic features such as state flags. Flags for each state can be found at this (or many others) WWW site: 50states.com Flag image links 12. We will use the MC (MEXICAN CESSION) View and theme for our example. Turn on the MC View (in the Project window) making sure the MEXICAN CESSION Theme is active. 13. Label each state name using the Label tool. 14. Download the flags for each of the five States into the assigned directory. To do this right click on the flag and click Save Picture As then select the folder or directory you will be storing flags in. Save the flags in a JPEG (make sure the JPEG extension is turned on) or GIF format. 15. Select the Draw Point tool from the Add graphics tools and click once in California. 16. Open the Window menu and select Show Symbol Window. 17. This will bring up the Market Palette. Click to bring up the Palette Marker then select Marker in the Type pull down menu. 14
18. Click Import and navigate to the directory where the flags are stored. Select the California GIF or JPEG. You will be back in the Palette Maker where you will select. Scroll down to the bottom where you will see the California Flag 19. Double click the flag and it will replace the black dot on the California map. You can adjust the size with the Size pull down menu. 20. To keep the flag graphic permanently with the project select Attach Graphics under the Graphics menu. Make sure you have selected each flag by holding down the shift key and clicking on each flag with the Pointer tool. 21. Save the project. 22. Follow the same procedure for each state (Origin) you want to display with a map. 23. Another enhancement would be to add each states Capitol city. Retrieve the Uscities.shp from the Qstart directory (c:\esri\av_gis\avtutor\arcview\qstart). This theme contains over 3000 cities. We only need a theme containing 50 cities, one for each States Capitol. To create this new theme follow the procedure below. 15
24. Make Uscities.shp active. With the Query tool create the following query ([Capital]) ="Y") then click New Set. Use the Convert to Shapefile (see page 10) procedure and rename the new theme CAPITOL_CITIES. Make CAPITOL_CITIES the active theme. This new theme now contains only States Capitol cities. Delete the old Uscities.shp theme. Copy the CAPITOL_CITIES theme (Edit menu, Copy Theme) and past it into each of the new eleven views you created. We will use the MC view for our example. Make the MC View active. Make sure the Geoprocessing extension is present at the bottom of the View menu and click to activate. If it is not present open the File Menu; click Extensions then put a check mark next to Geoprocessing, select default. 16
25. We will be clipping themes to limit CAPITOL CITIES to the five we need for this View. Use the graphics below as your guide: CLICK NEXT CLICK FINISH 17
26. The Output file #3 should already refer to your work directory if not type in the complete path (c:\esri\files\students\charlie) or browse to the save folder. 27. The resulting clipping operation will appear in the Table of Contents of the View as Clip.1, rename it Capitol Cities. Delete the old theme CAPITOL CITIES. 28. You can replace the city symbol with a star, or anything else you like by double clicking on the Capitol Cities theme to open up the Legend Editor and clicking again on the dot below the word "Symbol". This will take you to the marker palette where you can substitute the dot by double clicking on any symbol you desire. Adjust the size using the Size dialogue. 29. Turn on the new theme and label the Capitol cities. Your map should look similar to the map portion of the layout below: STATES CREATED FROM THE MEXICAN CESSION ÊÚ ÊÚ ÊÚ Carson City Sacramento Nevada California CAPITAL CITIES MEXICAN CESSION ÊÚ Salt Lake City Utah Arizona ÊÚ Phoenix ÊÚ Santa Fe New Mexico N W E Miles S 30. As a concluding exercise we will create several Layouts using the Origins fields. 18
31. Make the Project window active and select the Layout button. Click the New button to open a blank layout window. 34. You can change the orientation of the layout by selecting Layout then Page Setup. Select landscape orientation. 32. We will be putting three or four Origins on each Layout. 33. We will be using this toolbar from the layout menu to add the frames. 34. Each tools function is explained when you touch the tool with your cursor and check the bottom left of the screen. 35. Experiment with the View frame tool, drawing three or four frames per layout. 36. Use the other tools to add direction arrows, text and other items. Use the layout below as a guide. 19
