Add a Flash movie You can import a Flash movie for the lens term that uses animation to demonstrate how light enters the camera lens. Authorware lets you scale the dimensions of the movie upon import. Additionally, you can use the Sprite Icon Properties dialog box to specify a mode, such as transparent or inverse, for the movie. 1. On the Terminology flowline, click below the Lens icon so that the Paste Hand appears there. 2. Select Insert > Media > Flash Movie. 3. In the Flash Asset Properties dialog box, click Browse. In the Open Shockwave Flash Movie dialog box, browse to the Tutorial/Assets folder within your Authorware 7 folder and double-click Camera_lens.swf. 4. In the Flash Asset Properties dialog box, verify that Linked, Image, Sound, and Loop are selected as playback options. You are specifying that the movie will be linked rather than embedded, that the image is included, and that the movie, upon reaching the end, loops to the beginning. 5. In the Scale text box, type 75 for the movie to appear 75 percent of its original size. Click OK. 6. On the Terminology flowline, double-click the Flash icon to display the Sprite Icon Properties inspector. Click the Display tab. From the Mode pop-up menu, select Transparent. 1
7. Select Control > Restart from Flag, then pause the piece. In the Presentation window, drag the Flash movie and place it under the Lens definition. You might need to move the Lens text up. Erase the Flash movie by modifying properties The Flash movie should appear with the Lens term only. To specify this, you ll add the movie to the list of icons to erase when the user clicks Continue from the lens page. Note: Anytime you wish to modify an icon s properties, you can simply double-click the icon. 1. On the Terminology flowline, double-click the first Erase Term icon that appears after the Flash icon. The Erase Icon Properties inspector displays. 2. In the Presentation window, click the Flash movie. On the Icons tab of the Erase Icon Properties inspector, the Flash icon appears in the list of icons to ease. 2
Organize the flowline To follow the recommended practice of organizing your icons within logical groups, you ll create maps on the Terminology flowline for each of the five terms. 1. Drag to select the Lens and Flash icons as well as the Continue and Erase Term icons that appear immediately after. 2. Select Modify > Group and name the map icon Lens Term. 3. Select the Aperture Ring icon as well as the wait and erase icons that are next on the flowline, and select Modify > Group. Name the map icon Aperture Ring Term. 3
4. Select the Shutter Release icon as well as the wait and erase icons that are next on the flowline, and select Modify > Group. Name the map icon Shutter Release Term. 5. Select the Shutter Speed Indicator icon as well as the wait and erase icons that are next on the flowline, and select Modify > Group. Name the map icon Shutter Speed Term. 6. The Film Advance Lever icon does not require a wait or erase icon, since it displays the last of the terms. Still, for consistency, select it and select Modify > Group to create a map icon. Name it Film Advance Term. Link the photographic terminology to the Main Menu Now that you ve included the terminology in your piece, you can link it to the Main Menu. 1. Select Control > Restart and click the Continue button. 2. When the Main Menu appears, click 1. Photographic Terminology. Because you haven t defined the link for the hot spot, the Navigate Icon Properties inspector appears. 3. The Page field includes a list of icons to which you can navigate: the Main Menu and the Terminology map icons. You want the hot spot to take users to the terminology; click the Terminology icon. 4. Close the Terminology flowline. 5. Click the Continue button to view all the terms. Note: As you complete the tutorial, remember to save your work frequently. 4
Use models to streamline authoring A model contains one or more icons together with their branching structures. Models are built with Authorware and saved in separate files that can be shared among developers. You can load models into your Authorware file, where they ll be available for you to insert anywhere in an application you re building. As you ll see in this section, models can save you time and effort. You ll now load and paste two existing models that contain icons for two of your menu topics. To complete this section, you can continue using the file you created in the previous section, or you can open the Camera4.a7p file included in the Tutorial subfolder of your Authorware 7 application folder. If you do open the Camera4.a7p start file, immediately save the file with a new name to maintain an unmodified version for future use. Objectives After completing this section, you will know the following: What models are and how to add them to your Authorware piece The benefits of using models 5
Add models You can access models for this tutorial through the Knowledge Objects window. 1. Go to the Level 1 flowline. 2. If the Knowledge Objects window is not open, select Window > Knowledge Objects. Icons in the Knowledge Objects window are sorted in alphabetical order. To see the description of an icon, click it. 3. In the Category pop-up menu, select Tutorial. 4. Select the CameraParts map icon and drag it to the flowline to the right of the Terminology map icon. 5. Select the TakePictures map icon and drag it to the flowline to the right of the CameraParts map icon. 6
Link models to the Main Menu Once your models are in place, you can link them to the Main Menu just as you did for other segments in your piece that branch from the Main Menu. 1. Select Control > Restart. In the Introductory segment, click the Continue button. 2. On the Main Menu page, click 2. Parts of a Camera. 3. In the Navigate Icon Properties inspector, click Parts of a Camera in the list of pages, to link and navigate to that icon. 4. Authorware takes you to the Parts of a Camera page. Click the Menu button. 7
5. When you return to the Main Menu, click 3. Take Some Pictures. 6. In the Navigate Icon Properties inspector, select Take Some Pictures to link and navigate to that icon. You ve now linked the two models to the Main Menu. Note: As you complete the tutorial, remember to save your work frequently. Test the Models Now that you ve added two segments, you ll play and test them. 1. Restart your piece. After the Introductory segment, click Continue. 2. On the Main Menu, click 2. Parts of a Camera, then test each question by answering it. To further understand the interactions, see how the segment reacts when you give both correct and incorrect answers, and click the Hint button for some questions. 3. When you finish testing the Parts of a Camera segment, click the Menu button to return to the Main Menu. 4. Click 3. Take Some Pictures. 5. Follow the instructions in the Presentation window to adjust the aperture and shutter speed indicator, and then click the shutter release button. Try doing this with several combinations of aperture and shutter speed settings. 6. When you ve finished taking pictures, select Control > Stop. 7. On the Level 1 flowline, double-click the Parts of a Camera icon to open its flowline. 8. Examine the flowline to understand more about the authoring involved in creating this model. When you finish viewing the Parts of a Camera flowline, close it. 8
