CHAPTER 1: SYSTEM OVERVIEW AutoPilot Plus provides PC-based monitoring and control for the ARC Plus network. IP connectivity allows simultaneous control of multiple sites, while optional dial-up modem connectivity provides a means to access single sites from outside the LAN. AutoPilot Plus provides a customizable GUI, logging and automatic report generation, network and SNMP monitoring, and integration of remote security cameras. Details are included in the AutoPilot Plus instructions. ARC PLUS SL DIFFERENTIATIONS The ARC Plus SL and standard ARC Plus systems are compatible with one another. The standard ARC Plus system provides a front panel display, ESI Plus interface, dial-up modem connectivity and RS-485 Plus Bus ports for connection to the Integrated Input Unit and Integrated Command Relay Unit. The ARC Plus SL, on the other hand, connects Ethernet-enabled I/O modules sold separately as Plus-X units. The IIU and ICRU are not compatible with the ARC Plus SL. Because ARC Plus SL systems may reside on the same ARC Plus network as standard ARC Plus systems, it is possible to receive dial-out alarm notifications pertaining to equipment connected to the ARC Plus SL. To do this, an ESI Plus speech interface must be installed in a standard ARC Plus system, and that ARC Plus system must appear on the site list of the ARC Plus SL. More information on adding ARC Plus systems to the network may be found on page Configuring an ARC Plus Network (Multi-Site Installations)23. Throughout this manual, you will see references to the ARC Plus and the ARC Plus SL. Unless the text specifically refers to the ARC Plus SL, the instructions apply to both types of systems. 10 CHAPTER 1: SYSTEM OVERVIEW WEB-BASED MONITORING AND CONTROL The ARC Plus includes a built-in web server for managing remote sites via Internet Explorer 6 or later (other browsers may work as well). The web browser display is accessible by entering the IP address or host name of the ARC Plus in your web browser. The web server also provides connectivity to compatible mobile devices, such as cell phones, Smartphones and PDAs (iphone included). To access the mobile web display from your mobile device, enter the IP address or host name followed by /mobile/. For more on the web browser display, see page 53. SOFTWARE AND FIRMWARE UPDATES Periodic updates to ARC Plus software and firmware are made available at To be notified when new versions are available, sign up for updates by clicking the Updates link on the Burk Technology web site. SYSTEM SECURITY The ARC Plus protocol contains an encrypted digital signature, preventing unauthorized access without requiring SSL. To avoid exposure to excessive network traffic, installation behind a router or firewall is required. The web server can operate on any HTTP port, allowing the firewall to block Port 80 if desired. 4 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

2 Hardware Setup INSTALLING THE ARC PLUS UNIT Install the ARC Plus SL in an equipment rack with access to your LAN/WAN. It is recommended to connect the ARC Plus system to a suitable UPS to prevent unexpected power loss. CONFIGURING ARC PLUS NETWORK SETTINGS The ARC Plus SL ships with a default IP address of You will need to connect a PC running AutoLoad Plus software to the ARC Plus SL at this IP address before you can change the network settings on the unit. One way to do this is to unplug your PC from any other LAN and connect your PC to the ARC Plus via a network switch. Then configure your PC with a compatible IP address so that you may connect to the ARC Plus Running Windows XP, the following steps will allow you to configure your PC with a compatible IP address: 1. From the Control Panel, select Network Connections. 2. Double-click the icon for network you will be using. 3. On the General tab, click Properties. 4. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). 5. Select Properties. 6. Choose Use the following IP address and enter an IP address of x, where x is any valid address location except Click OK. You are now ready to connect via AutoLoad Plus software to configure the ARC Plus SL network settings. Once the ARC Plus SL is on the network, you will be able to install your Plus-X units so that you may monitor and control equipment at the site. Follow the instructions included with the Plus-X units.

CHAPTER 2: HARDWARE SETUP IMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION Maintenance Mode Prior to performing any maintenance on connected site equipment, operators MUST engage maintenance mode via the front panel button marked Remote. The REMOTE LED on the front panel of the unit turns red when in maintenance mode. This disables all commands, whether originating from the local ARC Plus, a remote ARC Plus, AutoPilot Plus software, web browser, or any other source.. This behavior is different from the ARC-16 maintenance mode, which does not prevent local commands. Disable maintenance mode by pressing the remote button a second time. For safety reasons, it is not possible to enable or disable maintenance mode by any means other than the front panel of the ARC Plus at the local site. 6 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

3 Configuring System Settings AutoLoad Plus allows you to easily set up and administer your ARC Plus system using a PC. With AutoLoad Plus, you have access to almost every system parameter such as metering (including calibration), status, and command channel settings, user security, front-panel display options, time and date settings, alarm notifications macros, and more. Once connected, the configuration is read and edited directly from the ARC Plus. When you save changes or click OK in the dialogs, the changes are loaded directly to the unit. Important! AutoLoad Plus is also used for configuring standard ARC Plus systems. 19 CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS AND DIALOUT NOTIFICATIONS Each alarm can be linked to an notification list and/or a dialout list to alert personnel to out-of-tolerance conditions or system alarms. In order for alarm notifications to be sent, the ARC Plus must have access to an SMTP server. For dialout notification, the optional ESI Plus must be installed in a standard ARC Plus unit that is in the same ARC Plus network as the ARC Plus SL. Configuring notifications is a two-step process: first, the notification lists must be created in the Alarm Notifications window; then the alarm conditions must be configured to use the appropriate lists. This is accomplished in the Status Notifications and Meter Notifications tabs of the channel configuration area, after you have configured status and metering channels. Configuring Alarm Notifications Settings Edit > Alarm Notifications > Settings To set up notification and dialout notification lists, choose Alarm Notifications from the Edit menu. This opens the Alarm Notifications window. Before setting up list members, enter the name or IP address of the mail server and the server port. If referencing the mail server by name, a DNS must be entered in the Network Settings configuration (see page 12). s originating from the ARC Plus must have a From address and a Reply to address. Any undeliverable notifications will be sent to the reply to address. Most administrators simply enter their own address for both of these settings. If your server requires authentication, enter the User name and User password where prompted. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 13

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Lists Edit > Alarm Notifications > Lists Each status alarm and each metering alarm threshold can be linked to one of up to 32 lists, allowing alarm notifications to be directed to the appropriate personnel. To create an list, click the Lists tab. Click the Add button to the left of the Lists column and enter the name of your first list where prompted. Then click the Add button to the left of the Addresses column and add addresses to the list until complete. When you are done, you can click Test to check your settings. A test will be sent to all addresses in the selected list. Now that you have created at least one list, this list will be available for selection in the Meter Notifications and Status Notifications tabs when you configure ARC Plus channels. 14 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Configuring Dialout Alarm Notifications If an ESI Plus is installed in any ARC Plus in the network, metering and status alarms can trigger dialout notifications to telephone numbers on your dialout lists. Each status alarm and each metering threshold can be linked to one of up to 32 dialout lists, and each list can contain up to 12 telephone numbers. The ESI Plus allows administrators to program a master dialout list, which will be called prior to any alarm-specific dialout lists. If you wish to use this master dialout list in lieu of alarm-specific lists, you do not need to complete the steps below. See Error! Bookmark not defined. for information on programming the master dialout list. Dialout Lists Edit > Alarm Notifications > Dialout Lists To set up your dialout lists, choose Alarm Notifications from the Edit menu and navigate to the Dialout Lists tab. Click Add to the left of the Dialout Lists column and enter the name of your first list where prompted. Then click Add to the left of the Phone Numbers column and assign telephone numbers to this list. If you wish for an alarm notification to dial a modem-equipped PC running AutoPilot Plus, precede the telephone number with D (for data). This is a useful way to log an alarm to the PC if there is no IP connectivity to the remote site. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 15

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS SITE PREFERENCES Many system settings are user-definable and can be configured by accessing the Site Preferences dialog from the Edit menu. Startup Behavior Edit > Site Preferences > Startup The Startup tab allows you to configure ARC Plus behavior on initial power up. Check the Mute alarms box to suppress all alarm notifications for a specified duration after startup. This provides an opportunity for equipment to recover from a power loss after startup without causing out of tolerance conditions. Check the Delay macros box to prevent any macros from running during the specified duration after startup. This feature can be used to prevent macros from using readings from equipment that has not yet stabilized or sending commands to equipment that has not yet come back online. The Restore relay states box does not apply to the ARC Plus SL. 16 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Timeout Settings Edit > Site Preferences > Timeouts After certain connection errors, AutoLoad Plus, AutoPilot Plus and the ARC Plus will log events and/or display error messages. Timeout durations are userconfigurable in the Timeouts tab. Front Panel Behavior Edit > Site Preferences > Front Panel The front panel behavior of the alarm LED on the ARC Plus SL is userconfigurable. Under Front Panel Alarm LED, the LED indicates alarm on local site option causes the front panel LED to illuminate when there is an alarm condition on any of the equipment physically connected to the unit. The LED indicates alarm on any site option causes the LED to illuminate when any site in the ARC Plus network has an alarm. The remaining checkboxes on this dialog do not apply to the ARC Plus SL. SUPPORT:

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Screen Saver Settings Edit > Site Preferences > Screen Saver This tab does not apply to the ARC Plus SL. 18 SUPPORT:

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Alarm Preferences Edit > Site Preferences > Alarms The alarm relay configuration options do not apply to the ARC Plus SL. The System alarm dialout list and System alarm list determine which notification lists the ARC Plus will use when there is a system alarm on the ARC Plus (such as the ARC Plus losing its connection to Plus-X units or other ARC Plus systems). To configure notifications of system alarms, server settings and at least one notification list must be configured (see page 13). In order to select a dialout list, an ESI Plus must be installed and there must be at least one dialout notification list created (see page 15). SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 19

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Primary/Backup ESI Configuration Edit > Site Preferences > ESI Because more than one ESI Plus may be installed in a network of ARC Plus systems, the ESI tab allows you to configure primary and backup sites. When an alarm occurs on the local ARC Plus and dialout notification is enabled for that alarm, the ARC Plus will initiate dialout using the ESI Plus installed in the site designated as Primary ESI site. The ESI site timeout setting determines how long the ARC Plus will wait for a response from the primary ESI Plus. The ESI site max retries setting determines how many times it will retry the primary site before attempting to connect to the Backup ESI site. 20 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS AutoPilot Plus Authorization Code Edit > Site Preferences > AutoPilot When you purchase a license for AutoPilot Plus, an authorization code is provided for one (1) ARC Plus unit. Enter the authorization code where prompted in order to begin using AutoPilot Plus with this ARC Plus. Effective in firmware version 1.1.2, the ARC Plus will retain the authorization code after upgrading firmware, resetting factory settings or cycling power. It is nonetheless recommended that you keep a safe record of the authorization code. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 21

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS HIDING UNUSED CHANNELS AutoPilot Plus and the web browser interface will show all 256 metering, status and command channels (real or virtual). If fewer channels are used, you can remove unused channels from display by clicking the Hidden Channels tab and checking off boxes under the Hide heading. This will remove the metering, status and command channels from view. Shortcut: If you have a block of channels to hide or unhide, choose Hidden Channels from the Edit menu to select channels in blocks. 22 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS CONFIGURING AN ARC PLUS NETWORK (MULTI-SITE INSTALLATIONS) When more than one ARC Plus unit is installed within an organization, grouping the units together in a single ARC Plus network offers the advantage of site-tosite control, where command and macros issued by one unit can control equipment connected to another unit. Adding Sites to the Network Once your ARC Plus sites are connected to the LAN/WAN, grouping them is easy. Start by connecting to one site in AutoLoad Plus. After the first site is connected, choose Add Site from the Site List menu. You will be prompted for the IP address, user name and password of the site you are about to add. Click OK. AutoLoad Plus will connect to the second site and the two sites will now be part of the same ARC Plus network. Categorizing Sites Adding category names to a large ARC Plus network can make it easier to navigate the front panel site menu (does not affect ARC Plus SL) or from within the AutoPilot Plus software. To add a category name, choose Add Base Category from the Site List menu and add as many root level categories as desired. You can then create subcategories by choosing Add Category from the Site List menu. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 23

CHAPTER 3: CONFIGURING SYSTEM SETTINGS Setting the Network Password All ARC Plus units in the network must have the same network password. Change the network password by going to Site List > Set Network Password. Each ARC Plus site has a network password that is used when connecting to other sites on the network. This prevents unauthorized ARC Plus sites from connecting to your network. Units shipping from the factory have a default network password of password. It is strongly recommended that you change this password by choosing Set network password from the Site List menu. AutoLoad Plus will change the network password for all units connected. When adding a new unit to an existing network, the network password must be set on the new unit before it can be added to the network. 24 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

4 Configuring Analog Inputs Configuration for the ARC Plus metering channels is broken out into several tabs in the main display area of AutoLoad Plus. Complete the configuration fields on each tab to set up your analog metering inputs. Important! Before configuring ARC Plus SL channels, you must install the Plus- X unit(s) that will connect to your site equipment. Follow instructions in the manual included with the Plus-X unit. METER CHANNELS TAB The Meter Channels tab is where you configure the channel label, units label, calibration type, input characteristics, and decimal place behavior for Plus-X metering channels. Channel and Units Labels

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS Under the Label and Units Label headings, enter names for the metering channel and the unit of measurement. These labels appear on the front panel (standard ARC Plus units only), web browser, and in AutoPilot Plus. 26 SUPPORT:

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS Calibration Type Your selection for calibration type determines how the ARC Plus scales the raw input value: Millivolt does not scale the raw input voltage; it applies a calibration constant of 1. A 300mV sample will be displayed as 300 on the ARC Plus, and the channel cannot be manually calibrated. Linear multiplies the raw input voltage by a calibration constant that is determined by comparing the sample voltage to the value entered during manual calibration. The Linear (Absolute) input type displays the absolute value of a linear input, and the Linear (Negative) input type is used for values with a negative voltage input; positive values are clipped to 0. Degree divides the raw input voltage by a 0.1 to show temperature readings from the Burk Technology BTU-4 temperature unit, which provides a 10mV / degree output. The decimal setting for channels configured for degree is locked at 1 (000.0). Indirect multiplies the raw input voltage by the scaled value of the previous channel and multiples the product by a calibration constant. Power squares the raw input voltage and then multiples the product by a calibration constant. Setting the Voltage Range Under the Voltage Range heading, select the input range that most closely matches the expected range of sample values. Supported input ranges are (-5 to 5), (0 to 5), (-10 to 10), and (0 to 10). Decimal Places Use the Decimal Places column to select the location of the decimal place when the ARC Plus reports the channel reading. For example, a scaled value of 1200 can also be displayed as 1.200, or SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 27

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS OVERRIDING METERING INPUTS WITH VIRTUAL CHANNELS OR PLUS-X CHANNELS Override metering channels by going to the Metering Channels tab and clicking the [ ] under the override heading. On the Metering Channels tab, click the [ ] icon under the Override heading to configure the ARC Plus to stop sampling voltage inputs and instead show a virtual channel or Plus-X channel everywhere the system reports this channel value. When applied to a metering channel, virtual channels are used to calculate a new channel value based on mathematical expressions, constants, values of macro variables, and/or other meter values. For example, a virtual metering channel can divide a broadcast station s licensed power level by the actual power output as measured by another metering channel. This would give the percentage of full power at which the station is operating. The logical and equality operators in the Override Channel dialog allow you to configure a virtual channel with a TRUE/FALSE output. These are intended for overriding status channels. If a metering channel is overridden with virtual channel and the output is TRUE or FALSE, the metering channel displays 0 or 1, respectively. Note: Virtual channels with values of 10,000 and greater cannot be displayed by the four-digit readout on the front panel of the ARC Plus. Macros and other virtual channels will interpret values greater than 10,000 correctly, even though the display is clipped to Extremely high values may not display properly in AutoPilot Plus software or when viewed on the web browser display. Plus-X channels are used to override input samples with values reported by a Plus-X device, such as the PlusConnect. Instructions for adding Plus-X 28 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS devices and implementing Plus-X channels are included with the Plus-X hardware. Adding Plus-X Channels to the ARC Plus After configuring channels on the Plus-X device itself, these channels may be added to the ARC Plus site using AutoLoad Plus. To add Plus-X channels to the ARC Plus: 1. Start by downloading the corresponding XML file from the support section of This file contains data that AutoLoad will need in order to configure the Plus-X device. Save the file in the Plus-X Devices directory. 2. Launch AutoLoad Plus and connect to the ARC Plus site to which the Plus-X unit is linked. 3. From the Edit menu, select Plus-X Devices and click New. 4. When the Plus-X Settings window appears, select the corresponding device name from the device type drop-down. Enter a description of the Plus-X device for your own reference, followed by the IP address and Plus-X port, both of which are already configured on the Plus-X device. 5. Check the box marked Map Default Set of Channels to add the device s standard channel allocation to the ARC Plus. If you are not using all of the channels on the Plus-X device or if you do not wish for them to appear in sequential order, you will need to manually map these channels later. In this case, leave the Map Default Set of Channels box unchecked. 6. Press OK to close the Plus-X Settings window. Press OK to close the Plus-X Devices window. 7. To manually map Plus-X channels to the ARC Plus, click the Metering, Status or Commands tabs, as appropriate. Locate an unused channel and click the [ ] button in the Override column. This will bring up the Override Channel dialog where. Click the Plus-X channel button and choose the Plus-X channel you wish to use. 8. Configure labels, limits and alarms for the newly added Plus-X channels in the same way as you would configure labels, limits and alarms for normal ARC Plus channels. 9. If the Plus-X device connects to voltage samples for analog metering, you will need to calibrate the Plus-X channels. If you have not already connected the input connector blocks to the Plus-X unit, do so now. Then click the Calibration icon in the AutoLoad Plus toolbar to complete the calibration process. 36 CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS METER GRAPH TAB This tab does not apply to the ARC Plus SL. 30 SUPPORT:

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS METER ALARMS TAB Set up alarm characteristics for each metering channel on the Meter Alarms Tab. Delayed Alarm Reporting Any metering channel can be configured to delay alarm reporting for a preconfigured duration, as specified under the Alarm Delay heading. When a delay is configured, the channel must be continuously out of tolerance for the duration of the delay before the alarm will be logged or reported. Enabling/Disabling Alarms In order for a metering channel to report an alarm condition, the box under the Enable Alarm heading must be checked. Note: To receive or dialout notifications for an alarm, the channel must also be configured with an or dialout list in the Meter Notifications tab and the channel and site must not be muted. Dialout notifications require that an ESI Plus speech interface be installed in a standard ARC Plus unit elsewhere on the ARC Plus network. (These not available on ARC Plus SL). Setting Limits SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 31

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS The critical and warning limits define the alarm thresholds for each metering channel. In addition, the AutoPilot Plus and the web browser interface use limits to determine certain display characteristics. To configure limits for each channel, enter values for the low critical, low warning, high warning and high critical thresholds. If alarms are enabled, a channel that crosses one of these thresholds will cause the alarm to be reported on the front panel of the ARC Plus, in AutoPilot Plus software, and on the web browser display. If alarm reporting and/or dialout notifications are enabled (dialout requires optional ESI Plus), outbound notifications will also be sent. When entering your limits, keep in mind the lowest limit value should be the critical low and the highest should be the critical high. AutoLoad Plus will automatically adjust limits if they are entered in an order other than least-to-greatest. Because each critical alarm and each warning alarm can have its own and dialout notification assignments, the only difference between a warning alarm and critical alarm is how each is logged on the front panel and in AutoPilot Plus software. Post Alarm Pause The ARC Plus has a built-in mechanism to reduce multiple alarm reports due to a single alarm event. An out-of-tolerance metering channel that returns to tolerance must remain within normal limits for 30 seconds before a new alarm is issued on that channel. For example, a channel configured to cause a high temperature alarm immediately upon reaching 90 degrees will report the alarm as soon as the temperature reads 90. However, if the temperature decreases to 89.9 and returns to 90 after less than 30 seconds, a second alarm is not issued. 32 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS METER NOTIFICATIONS TAB Each channel can be configured to send and/or dialout notifications when an alarm condition exists and the channel s alarm is enabled (and not muted). The critical thresholds and warning thresholds can each initiate phone calls and s to separate lists. To set up notification list assignments, navigate to the Meter Notifications tab and use the drop-down lists to select the lists and dialout lists each alarm will use. Before a list is available for selection, it must be created using the Alarm Notifications window (see page 13). A metering channel can be configured with critical alarms and warning alarms (low and high thresholds for each), and notifications for critical alarms may be directed to different lists from the notifications for warning alarms. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 33

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS METER DISPLAY TAB The meter display tab is where you configure how each metering channel is displayed in AutoPilot Plus and the web browser display. Color and meter range selections are stored onboard the unit so channels will appear the same on every PC used to access the site. Under the Min Value and Max Value headings, choose the lower and upper bounds for the meter display in AutoPilot Plus and the web browser. Then click the [ ] icon to modify the color selections for each segment of the meter. By default, meters show red for the ranges outside of critical limits, yellow for the ranges that encompass warning limits, and green for the normal range. 34 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS METER SPEECH LABELS TAB The settings on the Meter Speech Labels tab assign pre-recorded vocabulary to each channel and unit label. This vocabulary is used when an ESI Plus is reporting conditions via a telephone connection. Click the [ ] icons to assign ESI Plus vocabulary. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 35

CHAPTER 4: CONFIGURING ANALOG INPUTS CALIBRATING ANALOG INPUTS Metering values are scaled according to the input type specified on the Metering Channels tab (see page 27), and a calibration constant is applied to all input types except Millivolt and Degree. The calibration constant converts the scaled value to a calibrated value, corresponding to the actual reading on the parameter being monitored. The calibration process sets that calibration constant. To calibrate a metering channel: 1. Choose the channel you want to calibrate by selecting the corresponding row in the Meter Channels tab. 2. Choose Calibration from the Tools menu. 3. The calibration window will display the current channel, scaled value and resolution. 4. To change the value of the metering channel, enter the actual channel reading in the box for New scaled value and press the Calibrate button. AutoLoad Plus will automatically calculate a new calibration constant. 36 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

5 Configuring Status Inputs Configuration for the ARC Plus status channels is broken out into several tabs in the main display area of AutoLoad Plus. Complete the configuration fields on each tab to set up your status inputs. STATUS CHANNELS TAB Under the On Label and Off Label headings, enter names for the status on and status off conditions, respectively. Labels can be up to twenty (20) characters.

CHAPTER 5: CONFIGURING STATUS INPUTS OVERRIDING STATUS INPUTS WITH VIRTUAL CHANNELS OR PLUS-X CHANNELS Override status channels by going to the Status Channels tab and clicking the [ ] under the Override heading. On the Status Channels tab, click the [ ] icon under the Override heading to configure the ARC Plus to stop monitoring the status input and instead show a virtual channel or Plus-X channel everywhere the system reports this channel s status. When applied to a status channel, virtual channels are used to show a true/false condition based on a logical expression. For example, a virtual status channel can query several status inputs at once and provide a single indication whether any of those status is on. The expression might read S1 OR S2 OR S3 OR S4, and result in a status on indication if any of status channels 1-4 were on. Plus-X channels are used to override channels with values reported by a Plus-X device, such as the PlusConnect. Instructions for adding Plus-X devices and implementing Plus-X channels are included with the Plus-X hardware. 38 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 5: CONFIGURING STATUS INPUTS STATUS ALARMS TAB Set up alarm characteristics for each status channel on the Status Alarms tab. Enabling/Disabling Alarms To configure status alarms, select the desired alarm behavior under the Alarm Behavior heading. A status channel can cause an alarm when the status channel is on, or when it is off. If you do not want status alarms for a particular channel, choose Alarm disabled for the alarm behavior. Inverting Status Channels Normally a status high input results in the ARC Plus showing a status on condition. If you want a status low input to result in the on condition, check the box under the Invert heading. Delayed Alarm Reporting Any status channel can be configured to delay alarm reporting for a preconfigured duration, as specified under the Alarm Delay heading. When a delay is configured, the status channel must be continuously in the alarm state for the duration of the delay before the alarm will be logged or reported by the ARC Plus. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 39

CHAPTER 5: CONFIGURING STATUS INPUTS Setting the Alarm Severity Status alarms may be configured as warning alarms or critical alarms. Both types of alarms are reported in the same ways (front panel, notifications, dialout behavior, etc). The designation as warning or critical simply aids in prioritizing alarm response, or reviewing past alarm activity. Status Notifications Tab Use the Status Notifications Tab to determine which lists and/or dialout lists are used to notify operators of status alarms. Before a list is available for selection, it must be created using the Alarm Notifications window (see page 13). 40 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 5: CONFIGURING STATUS INPUTS Status Display Tab AutoPilot Plus software and the web browser display both show on and off indicators for the status channels. To change which colors are used, navigate to the Status Display tab and click the [ ] icon next to each status on or status off message. The process is the same as for metering channels (see page 35). SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 41

CHAPTER 5: CONFIGURING STATUS INPUTS Status Speech Labels Tab When an ESI Plus is installed, the settings on the Status Speech Labels tab assign pre-recorded vocabulary to each channel and unit label. The process for configuring status speech labels is the same as for metering channels (see page 35). 42 SUPPORT:

6 Configuring Command Channels To configure command channels, navigate to the Commands tab. COMMAND CONFIGURATION Momentary or Latching Relays All ARC Plus relays can be configured as either momentary or latching. Make this selection under the Command Type heading. Momentary relays are energized for the duration configured under the Command Duration heading. Latching channels are energized until the opposing relay is activated (i.e. when a channel is latched in the raise state, the raise relay is energized until the lower relay is activated). Command Duration The command duration setting determines the pulse duration for a momentary command.

CHAPTER 6: CONFIGURING COMMAND CHANNELS Command Labels Command labels appear on the front panel, on the web browser display, and in AutoPilot Plus software. The front panel LCD buttons provide 12 characters for the command label (2 rows of 6 characters each), which allows operators to see the label before issuing a raise or lower command. To configure raise and lower labels, click inside Raise label or Lower label field and then click the square button next to the label text. This window shown above, with two separate lines for the label. Enter the channel label and click OK. LCD Colors The backlight colors for the front panel raise and lower labels can be configured to be red, green or amber. Use the dropdown lists under the Raise Button Backlight Color and Lower Button Backlight Color headings to configure these colors. 44 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 6: CONFIGURING COMMAND CHANNELS Overriding Command Channels with Macros or Plus-X Channels Override command channels by going to the Command Channels tab and clicking the [ ] icon under the Override heading. On the Command Channels tab, click the [ ] icon under the Override heading to configure the ARC Plus to run or stop a macro, or to activate a Plus-X channel when the front panel command button is pressed. When a command channel is overridden by a macro, the raise button starts the macro and the lower button stops the macro. Details on overriding command channels with Plus-X channels are included with the Plus-X product (i.e. the PlusConnect ). Note: It is not necessary to override a command channel in order to execute macros. Macros can also be run by using the front panel menus. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 45

CHAPTER 6: CONFIGURING COMMAND CHANNELS 46 SUPPORT:

7 Macros The ARC Plus features on-board macros for automatic responses to conditions at the remote site, scheduled activities based on time-of-day, or calendar-based routines that reference pre-configured calendar times. CREATING MACROS Use the Macro Editor to create and edit macros. Macros are edited in AutoLoad Plus by selecting Macros from the Edit menu. This opens the Macro Editor. Macros execute instructions line by line. To generate a line of macro code, use the drop-down list at the bottom of the screen. As you build your line of code, new drop-down menus appear, allowing you to complete each expression. Note: To delete text in the macro expression, use the backspace button. Pressing the delete key will prompt you to delete the entire macro line. As you create your macro, use the icons in the toolbar to cut/copy and paste lines of code, delete lines, insert new lines, or reorder lines. When you insert new lines inside of your macro, you will be prompted to update Go To references automatically.

CHAPTER 8: FRONT PANEL OPERATION Note: If statements always end in a Go To instruction, allowing you to create condition-based instructions in two steps (the first line would test the condition and direct the macro to the line with the action to take if the If statement evaluates as true). Macro Expressions for Channel Values and Site Conditions Use these functions for expressions that read channel values and site conditions from the ARC Plus: Expression If Value If Status If New Value If New Status If Alarm If Maint Mode Raise/Lower Alarm Set Mute Description These statements test the expression against the most recently obtained meter/status value for the specified site and channel. This statement waits until the ARC Plus updates the meter/status reading before testing the expression against the value. Use this macro function to test the result of a raise/lower command. Tests the expression against the alarm count on the specified. Can be used with an inequality to trigger an action if the alarm count is greater than 0. Tests the expression against the maintenance mode on/off state at the specified site. Issues a command to the specified site and channel. Note that the command duration entered in the macro editor will override the command duration otherwise programmed for the channel. Generates an alarm on the ARC Plus with the specified message. Can also be used at the end of a macro to initiate notification that the macro is complete. Mutes alarm reporting on the specified channel. Macro Expressions for Date and Time Functions Date/time and day-of-week statements all reference the date/time or day-of-week as reported by the local ARC Plus unit. For example, if you are programming a macro to execute a command at noon eastern time, but the ARC Plus is configured to display Pacific time, set the If Time statement to use 9:00AM. Expression If Date If Time If Day Description Tests the expression based on the date and time at the site, or on the day of the week. 48 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 8: FRONT PANEL OPERATION Macro Expressions for Reading and Manipulating Variables Macros can manipulate up to 256 variables to perform a variety of functions. For example, a macro can increment or decrement a variable, providing an event counter that can be read by a virtual channel. Note that a remote ARC Plus cannot act upon a macro that resides on a different unit. Expression If Memory Set Memory Increment Decrement Description Tests the expression based on the value of the specified variable. The ARC Plus stores up to 256 variables, all of which can be acted on by any macro onboard the local ARC Plus. Sets the variable to a specific value. Increases or decreases the specified variable by one (1). Multiple increment or decrement expressions can be combined to increase or decrease the variable by amounts greater than 1. Macro Expressions for Running/Stopping Other Macros Macros can be used to run and stop other macros, as well as use a particular macro s running/stopped status in an if statement. Expression If Macro Set Macro Description Tests the expression based on whether a macro is running (on) or stopped (off). A macro that is scheduled to run, but is not currently executing instructions, is considered to be stopped. Runs or stops the specified macro. Other Macro Expressions Expression Wait Message Goto Line End Description Programs the macro to pause for the specified duration before executing the next line of code. Generates a new entry in the ARC Plus event log with the specified message text. Note that messages do not initiate any notification, but they can be logged and shown in reports. Directs the macro to a specific line of code. Stops the macro. The macro will run again when next scheduled, when called upon by another macro, or when issued manually via the front panel, ESI Plus, AutoPilot Plus or web browser display. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 49

CHAPTER 8: FRONT PANEL OPERATION SCHEDULING THE MACRO Schedule macros by opening the Macro Editor and choosing Schedule from the File menu. Once you program the macro, the next step is to schedule when it will run. From the Macro Editor File menu, choose Schedule to open the Macro Schedule window. There are four different ways a macro can be scheduled: Run on demand means the macro will run when executed manually via the front panel, AutoPilot Plus, web browser display, or ESI Plus session. It will also run when executed from another macro that is already running. Run at an interval schedules the macro to repeat after a specified amount of time. Schedule for a specific time means the macro will run when the ARC Plus realtime clock matches the time configured in the Run at field. Schedule for a calendar time runs the macro according to a user-defined time of day based on the current month (see below). 50 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 8: FRONT PANEL OPERATION Programming Calendar Times Macros scheduled to run according to a calendar time reference the ARC Plus calendar, which is configured by selecting Calendar from the Edit menu in the main AutoPilot Plus window. The Calendar allows six preset times of day, per month (Pre Sunrise, Sunrise, Sunset, Post Sunset, User 1 and User 2). Set up the schedule by clicking under the appropriate heading and using the arrows to set the desired time. When a macro references one of these presets times, it will use the time-of-day configured here. Use standard time when programming the calendar; the ARC Plus will automatically adjust for Daylight Saving Time if configured to do so (see page 11). SAVING AND NAMING THE MACRO Macro Name When you are done with your macro, choose Save from the File menu. You will be prompted to name the macro. The macro name appears on the front panel macro selection menu on the ARC Plus, in AutoPilot Plus software, and on the web browser display. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 51

CHAPTER 8: FRONT PANEL OPERATION Run Label and Stop Label While the front panel macro menu displays the name of the macro, the LCD buttons used to run and stop the macro can be programmed to display specific run and stop labels. By default, these labels are Run Macro and Stop Macro. If desired, you can change these labels by entering text in the Run Label and Stop Label fields below the macro editor toolbar. Speech Label In order for an ESI Plus speech interface to report the name of the macro, a label must be assigned in the Speech Label field. 52 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

8 Using the Web Browser Display The ARC Plus has a built in web server to allow monitoring and control of the unit from Internet Explorer (5.0 or later) or on many web-enabled cell phones, PDAs, and Smartphones. With the web browser display, you can monitor metering values and status conditions, issue commands, run macros, review alarms, and view the event list. The ARC Plus must reside on a public IP address in order for outside web connectivity. In addition, your PC must have: Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0 or later Broadband internet connection Sun Microsystems Java Virtual Machine 1.5 or later Minimum 1024x768 screen resolution Other browsers and configurations may work, but only the above setup is supported by Burk Technology. Note that alarms, events and macros are managed via JavaScript pop-up windows. You may need to disable popups on your web browser. LOGGING IN Logging in with Internet Explorer To log in using Internet Explorer, enter the IP address or domain name of the ARC Plus in your web browser. When the login screen appears, enter your user name and password, and click the login button. User names, passwords and

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY privileges are set up in AutoLoad Plus software. If none have been established, the default user name is admin and the default password is password. Note: Due to the way Internet Explorer interacts with Java, using the tab button to switch between the user name and password does not work. Use the mouse to move the cursor from one field to the other. Logging in via Mobile Web Connectivity To log in using a mobile web browser, enter the IP address of the ARC Plus followed by /mobile/. If the mobile web display does not load, you may need to follow the IP address with /mobile instead. The mobile web display provides a basic means to take readings, review alarms and issue commands to the ARC Plus. Each mode of operation is accessible via a separate hyperlink after login. Macros and events are not available when viewing the site on the mobile web page. However, any command may be overridden with a macro for accessibility on the mobile web page (see page 45). The remainder of this chapter discusses web connectivity via Internet Explorer. 54 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY VIEWING CHANNEL CONDITIONS AND ISSUING COMMANDS After you log in, the web interface displays the default view, which shows sixteen metering, status and command channels in the main display area. Above the channel indicators and controls, you see: The name of the ARC Plus site The name of the user who is logged in The QuickView, which provides an easy reference to a small selection of channel A toolbar for accessing macros, alarms, events and onboard help The alarm ticker (directly beneath the toolbar), which scrolls alarm conditions detected at the site. Alarms that have not yet been displayed are shown in yellow, while alarms that have already appeared in the alarm ticker are shown in white. If there are no alarms, the ticker appears as a solid blue bar across the page. Taking readings and issue commands is straightforward. The metering and status channels are displayed with labels and colors configured in AutoLoad Plus. These are the same labels and colors users see in the AutoLoad Plus software. To issue a command, simply click once on the command button. If the site is in maintenance mode, commands are grayed out because maintenance mode disables commands. Metering, status and command indicators/controls are shown 16 at-a-time. To choose a new bank of 16 channels, use the drop-down list directly above the command buttons. The checkbox next to the drop-down list allows you to make SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 55

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY this bank of 16 channels the default selection, so that users will always see these channels when the web interface loads. 56 SUPPORT:

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY Editing Page Layouts While the default view shows channels in banks of 16, custom page layouts allow you to select up to 16 individual channels for display, You can view any 16 metering channels, any 16 status channels, and any combination of 16 commands and/or macros using a custom page layout. To edit a page layout: 1. In the drop-down list above the command buttons, select one of the four custom pages. 2. Click the edit icon on the left side of the screen to enter edit mode. 3. For each channel you want to include in the page layout, click on the component and choose the channel from a list of all channels at the site. Status channels can be placed on the left side of the screen, metering channels in the center, and commands/macros on the right. 4. When you are done adding channels to the page layout, click the Save icon. 5. If you would like to see how the page layout will look before you commit changes, you can enter view mode by clicking the preview icon. Return to edit mode by clicking the edit icon. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 57

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY Using the QuickView The QuickView, located at the top right of the screen, allows easy reference to 8 metering channels, status channels, commands or macros. While the main display area of the page changes when you select a new custom page or a different bank of 16 channels, the QuickView channels remain fixed until you edit them. This means you can monitor channels in the QuickView even when you change which channels appear in the main display area. Changing which channels appear in the QuickView is identical to selecting channels for display in custom page layouts. If you would like every user to see the same QuickView display, click Save before logging out of the web interface. If you leave your changes unsaved, the previous Quick View settings will be shown the next time a user logs in. 58 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY MANAGING ALARMS Above the toolbar at the top of the screen, the web interface displays a tally of alarms at the site. To review and clear alarms, click the alarm icon in the toolbar to open the alarm list. This window displays a list of active alarms at the site, and allows you to clear individual alarms by clicking the clear icon next to each alarm entry. To clear all alarms at the site, click the button marked clear all alarms at the top of the window. Clearing an alarm on the web interface will mark the alarm as cleared in AutoPilot Plus and on the front panel. In addition, it will no longer be reported as an alarm via the ESI Plus. REVIEWING EVENTS The event list keeps track of ARC Plus activities and notifications, such as alarms being cleared, connections/interruptions, etc. To open the event list, click the event list icon in the toolbar at the top of the screen. A new window will open, showing 256 of the most recent events, sorted chronologically. Events cannot be removed manually from the list, but once 256 events are stored, the oldest ones are deleted when new ones occur. SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM 59

CHAPTER 8: USING THE WEB BROWSER DISPLAY RUNNING MACROS The web interface provides control of all macros stored on the ARC Plus unit. To access the macros, click the macros icon in the toolbar. A new window will appear, showing all the macros stored on the unit. Any macro that is currently running will display the word running near the start and stop buttons. Use those buttons to run or stop any macro. If the macro runs for only a brief duration, the running indicator may not appear at all. DISCONNECTING When you are done using the web interface, log off by clicking the log out icon in the toolbar. Logging off prevents unauthorized access to the web interface and allows another web interface, AutoLoad Plus or AutoPilot Plus session (up to 10 simultaneous sessions are allowed). 60 SUPPORT: SUPPORT@BURK.COM
