8 Fraunhofer Research for Clean Water Supply Drinking Water Technologies Fraunhofer technologies protect the quality of drinking water : Drinking water needs to be free of pathogens and toxic substances as otherwise many people can be harmed very quickly. Fraunhofer Institute of Optronics, System Technologies and Image Exploitation IOSB has developed technologies for a comprehensive monitoring, early warning and emergency management system to ensure high quality standards of drinking water. Lasers offer automated way to test drinking water: To keep drinking water clean, water experts constantly monitor our supply system to check it for contaminants. Now, new laser technology can help: a new system developed by Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics IAF automatically analyzes water samples at the waterworks itself IOSB
