1 Firmware upgrade instructions Point of View 8 TAB-P825D Preparation notice: Upgrading the firmware of your device may enhance the performance and functionality of your device. Incorrect follow-up of the steps described in this manual can cause irreversible damage to your tablet. Backup all your information before continuing and thoroughly read the instructions before taking action. Make sure you have downloaded the correct firmware by matching it with the item number on the back of the tablet. 1

2 Before you begin: - Backup the personal data on the tablet. - Ensure that the battery is fully charged and you have the AC adapter plugged in. - Temporary disable the antivirus program on your PC before updating your tablet. - Unpack your downloaded update file. - USB A male > Micro USB B male cable is required. - Connect charger to the tablet and USB cable to the PC and tablet. Introduction: In this Firmware upgrade instruction the following steps will be explained: 1: Update procedure 1 => Use this procedure if your tablet is fully functional and you would like to benefit from the fixes and improvements of our latest firmware. 2: Update procedure 2 => Use this procedure if your tablet is not working properly and if you are not able to access the android system. 2

3 Update procedure 1 => Use this procedure if you have a functional tablet. If your device is functioning normal, it can be flashed when it is turned on. If you have not already done so, connect the tablet to the computer via the supplied USB cable. Go to the location where you have downloaded and unpacked the update files and double click RKBatchTool.exe. This will start up the Rockchip Batch Tool. Refer to the picture below. Connected Devices 1 should be Pink. This means the tablet is recognized by the software. Press the Switch button in the bottom of the screen to bring the tablet into boot mode. The Connected Devices 1 square now turns to grey and the screen of the tablet will turn black. Note: During the update, the screen will remain black until the update is completed. 3

4 In Windows you will hear a sound that there is a device connected. Press the Start button, right click on Computer and select Manage. In the newly opened window Computer Management, select Device Manager from the menu on the left. In the right part of the screen, right click on the Unknown device and select Update Driver Software. 4

5 Manually search for the driver by selecting Browse my computer for driver software. Go to the location where you have downloaded and unpacked the update files. This should be similar to: C:\TAB-Pxxx\Driver\x86 (for 32-bit systems) or x64 (for 64-bit systems) \ xp \ 2000 \ vista \ win7 \ win8 Note: Please choose the correct folder corresponding to your operating system Press Next. 5

6 When Windows asks if you want to install the device software, select Install. If the Windows Security window pops up, press Install this driver software anyway. When the installation is successful you can close the window. 6

7 There should now be a Rockusb Device, RK30 Device or similar entry available in the Device Manager. Note: The driver installation only needs to be done if this is the first time you update your tablet firmware. If you already have performed an update in the past the driver is already installed and you can skip this part and continue updating directly. Go back to the Rockchip Batch Tool. Connected Devices 1 should now be Green. This means your tablet is correctly setup in Boot mode and ready for the upgrade. Now click the button in the top right corner and browse to the location where you have unpacked the firmware update folder. The update firmware will be named similar like TAB-PXXX.img. After selecting this file, it will be displayed in the FW Path. 7

8 You are now all set up to start the upgrade process. There are 2 upgrade modes to choose from: - Pressing the Restore button (1) will do a clean install of your tablet, removing all files before installation. Be sure to have backed up all important data on the tablet. Is your tablet not functioning properly or at all, choose this option. - Pressing the Upgrade button (2) will leave all personal files intact and overwrites system files only. Choose this option if you tablet is working properly and you want to update to a newer firmware. Note: If you have updated by pressing the Upgrade button and your tablet is still not working properly, repeat the update procedure and select the Restore option. CAUTION: DO NOT interrupt the update process as this may cause irreversible damaged to your tablet!! 8

9 After the update has finished successfully, you will see the following screen: Your tablet is now starting up and finalizing the upgrade process. You may disconnect the USB cable from the tablet but keep the power connected to the tablet until the tablet is fully started up and displaying the language selection setting. Note: Starting up the tablet for the first time after a firmware upgrade may take longer than usual. Please be patient and do not interrupt this process if interrupted this may lead to an unstable system and you then need to reflash the firmware again Your tablet is now up to date! 9

10 Update procedure 2 => Use this procedure if your tablet is not working properly or if you are not able to access the tablet. Note: During the update, the screen will remain black!! If the tablet starts up => Hold Volume + button and press reset button once Before you can upgrade the firmware of your device, it needs to be put in a specific Boot mode. To do this: Press and hold the + button on the tablet while at the same time pressing the reset button once with a sharp object While still keeping the + button pressed. When done correctly you will hear a sound from your computer that a device is connected. Press the Start button, right click on Computer and select Manage. In the newly opened window Computer Management, select Device Manager from the menu on the left. In the right part of the screen, right click on the Unknown device and select Update Driver Software. 10
