SGH-i616 Windows Mobile Version 6.1 Upgrade Procedure

1 Introduction: The following instruction provides assistance in upgrading the Rogers branded SGH-i616 to Windows Mobile version 6.1 for Microsoft Windows XP and Vista. NOTE: Do not attempt to upgrade Windows Mobile version 6.1 to a device that does not have the Rogers logo at the bottom of the device s keypad. Required Equipment: 1. Host computer with internet access and with available USB port. 2. Depending on Host computer operative system please download either Window-XP-Mobile-WIN-6.1-Upgrade- Package.zip or Window-VISTA-Mobile-WIN-6.1-Upgrade-Package.zip 3. USB Data cable (included with the SGH-I616 box at time of purchase) 4. Fully charge battery Getting Started: 1. Create a folder on your computer desktop called WinMobileJack6.1Upgrade 2. Download and save the upgrade software package in to the folder WinMobileJack6.1Upgrade. 3. Unzip the file depending on Host computer operative system Window-XP-Mobile-WIN-6.1-Upgrade- Package.zip or Window-VISTA-Mobile-WIN-6.1-Upgrade-Package.zip 4. If Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 is not installed on host computer please install before proceeding to next step with upgrade. Microsoft Active Sync 4.5 software can also be found on the Getting Started Disc included with the SGH-i616 at time of purchase. 5. Install USB Driver that included in the upgrade package on host computer. The version SAMSUNG Composite USB Driver 4_34 WHQL. 6. Check the folder WinMobileJack6.1Upgrade to make sure you can find the Win 6.1 upgrade SW. 2 *********** Warning ********** Updating the SGH-I616 device to Windows Mobile version 6.1 will result in the loss of ALL data and applications and reset the device to factory default. Samsung Electronics Canada is in no way responsible or liable for the loss of data an/or applications and recommends that data be backed up using ActiveSync, and that the device owner or Rogers authorize dealer/store verify that any 3 rd party applications installed on the device are compatible with Windows Mobile 6.1. Upgrade Procedure: Note: At this stage you should have selected the correct Upgrade package. At this stage you should have installed Active sync and USB driver. Ensure that your device s battery is charged to prevent loss of power during upgrade Make sure your device is turned off and disconnected from your PC before proceeding to the next step. 1. From host computer Desktop, double click the file and if Vista Note: 1. ID and Password Key are included in the file name as it shown below for Window XP. 2. For Window XP enter 5330 in the [ID] field and 9377 in the [KEY] field. Vista enters 5556 in the [ID] field and 6353 in the [KEY] field. As shown graphically below 3. Click Confirm 4. Turn on the device in re-flashing mode. To turn on the phone in re-flashing mode do following, press simultaneous following keys, return key, and volume up key(push the volume key as shown with arrow) and power on key. 4 6. When you connect your phone i616 to host computer if Synchronization Setup Wizard pops up, click Cancel OR if Microsoft ActiveSync Window pops up, click Stop to terminate program. 3. Wait few second until start button is highlighted then Click Start on the download program as shown below. 4. When download is finished a window will popup (As it is shows below) then disconnect the device from USB cable and once device power cycles the upgrade is complete. 5 5. To confirm Win 6.1 is installed successfully please from idle screen press start->setting->more->more->select about. The first line shows window version.
