9 Page 9 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Changing Media The AXIUM Media Presenters and the Generic Media Platform (GMP) are designed to facilitate ease of changeover from one media application to another. This is most easily accomplished with the media presenter on a bench or other clean, flat surface. NOTE Do not apply power to the media presenter until setting and saving the media length adjustment. To change media, perform the following steps, which accommodate most routine changeovers: 1. Remove the GMP from the media presenter (refer to Installing and Removing the GMP in Section 3. NOTE For most applications, the sensor position will not require adjustment. If the sensor position DOES require adjustment (because the media is off center to the backer), verify its position and make necessary changes before proceeding to step 2 (refer to Media Sensor Adjustment in this section). 2. Adjust the peel gate width to accommodate the new media application (refer to Peel Gate Width Adjustment in this section). 3. Install the GMP on the media presenter (refer to Installing and Removing the GMP in Section 3). 4. Load the new media in the media presenter (refer to Tape Loading in Section 3). 5. Apply power to the media presenter. Set and save the media length adjustment for the new media application (refer to Media Length Adjustment in Section 2). 6. Run the media presenter on the connected platform machine. Refer to the detailed sections included herein for more information regarding fine adjustments to the GMP, media presenter operation, troubleshooting, and component identification Hover-Davis, Inc. 12 Page 12 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Generic Media Platform (GMP) Adjustments When setting up the Generic Media Platform (GMP) for a new media application, four mechanical adjustments are available (refer to Fig. 1-1). These are: 1. Peel Gate Width Adjustment 2. Media Sensor Position Adjustment 3. Peel Edge Height Adjustment 4. Peel Edge Gap Adjustment Fig. 1-1 NOTE Most applications require only the peel gate width adjustment. NOTE Older LMG02-series modules will function on newer AM-series presenters, provided the media length is set to zero. Newer Generic Media Platforms are not compatible with older LPseries presenters Hover-Davis, Inc. All rights reserved.

13 Page 13 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Peel Gate Width Adjustment The peel gate constrains the side-to-side movement of the media liner. The peel gate width (refer to Fig. 1-2) should be set so that the peel gate barely touches the liner on both sides. It should not cause excessive drag on the liner. Peel Gate Width Fig. 1-2 NOTE NOTE The maximum liner width for a standard Generic Medium Platform is 42mm (for a wide GMP, it is 58mm). For liner widths 8mm to 42mm (0.315 in. to in.), use the standard configuration (refer to Fig. 1-3) of the linear adjust nuts (default for the GMP). For liner widths less than 8mm (0.315 in.), use the reverse configuration (Fig. 1-4) of the liner adjust nuts. Refer to the procedure herein to switch configurations. 18 Page 18 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Media Sensor Adjustment The media sensor detects the leading edge of the media being fed for positioning, as well as the trailing section of the media once it is in position, for media presence. The media sensor position (refer to Fig. 1-18) can be adjusted to either side of the GMP for media that are offset from center on the liner, or media that are odd form and not rectangular, or for multi-column media (so the advance-triggering media can be chosen). Media Sensor Position Fig NOTE NOTE NOTE The maximum media sensor offset from center is 14.7mm (0.579 in.) in either direction. Some platform machines are not compatible with multiple tracks (multiple media columns) fed from a single presenter. Media that incorporate an opening or cutout above the media sensor (when the media is in position) are not compatible with the GMP and will not perform as required Hover-Davis, Inc. All rights reserved.

19 Page 19 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) To adjust the media sensor position, perform the following steps: 1. Using an M1.5 driver, loosen the 2 screws of the sensor mount block on the bottom of the GMP in order to unlock the media sensor (refer to Fig. 1-19). Fig Adjust the media sensor position to sense the leading edge of the media (refer to Fig. 1-20). NOTE For most standard media applications, positioning the media sensor in the center will produce satisfactory results. Fig Using an M1.5 driver, tighten the 2 sensor mount block screws on the bottom of the GMP to lock the media sensor (refer to Fig. 1-21). Fig Hover-Davis, Inc. All rights reserved.

20 Page 20 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Peel Edge Height Adjustment The peel edge separates media from the liner for presentation onto the deck. The peel edge height (refer to Fig. 1-22) is the distance between the top surface of the stationary deck and the top surface of the movable peel edge, which affects the presentation angle of the media. Ideally, media should be as flat as possible to maximize nozzle vacuum on the media for picking. Peel Edge Height Fig NOTE NOTE The maximum range of the peel edge height is approximately -2.29mm to +8.89mm ( in. to in.) from the deck. For every 0.5 turns of the adjustment screw, the peel edge moves approximately 1.27mm (0.050 in.). To adjust the peel edge height, use an M2.0 driver to turn the peel edge mount set screw clockwise (to raise the peel edge) or counter-clockwise (to lower the peel edge). Refer to Fig and Fig Fig Fig Hover-Davis, Inc. All rights reserved.

21 Page 21 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Peel Edge Gap Adjustment The peel edge separates the media from the liner for presentation onto the deck. The peel edge gap (refer to Fig. 1-25) is the distance between the rear surface of the stationary deck and the front surface of the movable peel edge, which also affects the presentation angle of a media and the drag on the liner. Ideally, the media should be as fast as possible, and there should not be excessive drag on the liner. Peel Edge Gap Fig 1-25 NOTE The maximum range of the peel edge gap is approximately 0.48mm (0.019 in.). To adjust the peel edge gap, perform the following steps: 1. Using an M1.5 driver, loosen the 2 screws on the rear of the module block that secure the peel edge (refer to Fig. 1-26). Fig Hover-Davis, Inc. All rights reserved.

The status LED will turn yellow (refer to Table 2-3). The time out delay is the distance the presenter will drive the media forward before automatically stopping to prevent the presenter from continuously feeding media (in the event of a sensor malfunction). Time out delay is typically set to skip over one (1) missing media unit before stopping the presenter. NOTE NOTE The time out delay minimum is 1 blink (0.25 in.). The maximum is 32 blinks (8 in.), but this depends on liner type and thickness. The time out delay is automatically set to 2.2 times the saved media length, so this value typically is adjusted only for very large gaps between media. Time Out Delay Adjustment Mode Entering mode Forward press Reverse press Center hold for 5 seconds Table 2-3 Effect Blinks yellow. Each blink is equal to 0.25 in. of length. Adds 0.25 in. to the maximum length. Subtracts 0.25 in. from the maximum length. Saves value and returns to normal mode. NOTE NOTE If the media sensor is unblocked when holding the center button, the 5 second hold time starts after the motor advance times out. If power is removed before saving the setting, the unit will start with the previously set time out value Hover-Davis, Inc. All rights reserved.

34 Page 34 AXIUM Media Presenters Product Guide 580D-E10 Rev. A (2) Tape Loading CAUTION NOTE Before threading the liner through the media presenter, always remove enough media from the lead end of the liner so it can be threaded through the GMP without having any media pass through the lower part of the GMP. If media is left on the liner, the hard turns of the liner path through the GMP will cause the media to dislodge from the liner inside the unit. This can create potential feed problems. The following sequence illustrates tape loading for the AMPS presenter. The specific tape path for your application will vary based on presenter model. Refer to Table 3-1, Tape Paths by Product for reference. The tape path sticker on your presenter illustrates the precise path the tape must follow for proper loading. To load the presenter, perform the following steps: 1. Remove approximately 14 inches of media from the lead end of the liner to thread the liner through the GMP and insert the liner into and through the tape input shoe (refer to Fig. 3-3). TAPE INPUT SHOE Fig After the liner exits the tape input shoe, thread the liner over the input tape guide and prepare to feed it into the GMP (refer to Fig. 3-4.)
