Software Version 6.11 Release Bulletin This software release bulletin provides information about PictureTel system software version This bulletin includes the following topics: Release Description Compatibility Interoperability Restrictions Removed Since Software Version 6.10 Usage Notes Restrictions Release Description System software version 6.11 enables a PictureTel Concorde 4500 videoconferencing system to support LimeLight, PictureTel s new automatic, intelligent camera-pointing mechanism. LimeLight automatically locates the speaker and points the camera toward that person. Portuguese language menus are also new to software version As in previous software versions, German, French, Italian, and Spanish are supported as well. System software version 6.11 can be installed on the following systems: Concorde 4500 System 4200ZX System 4000EX 1

SOFTWARE VERSION 6.11 RELEASE BULLETIN Compatibility A system using this software version is compatible with the following PictureTel released products: V-3100 videoconferencing system using software version 4.3 or later System 4000 videoconferencing system using software version 4.3V System 4000EX videoconferencing system using software version , , or later Concorde 4500, System 4200ZX, or System 4000EX (with SG4 or 30 Frames Per Second) videoconferencing system using software version or later M-8000 multipoint bridge (Link-64E [H.320] compression software) using software version 1.4, 2.0, 2.1, 2.5, or later Montage multipoint bridge using software version 3.2c7 or later Prism multipoint bridge using software version 5.0 or later Venue 2000 videoconferencing system using software version 1.01 or later System 1000 videoconferencing system using software version 1.2 or later PictureTel LIVE PCS 100 videoconferencing system using software version 1.0, 1.1, or later PictureTel LIVE PCS 50 videoconferencing system using software version 1.0 or later PictureTel LIVE PCS 200i videoconferencing system using software version 1.1 PictureTel LIVE PCS 200p videoconferencing system using software version 1.0 or later 2

Interoperability Interoperability System software version 6.11 supports the ITU-T Recommendation H.320 (Px64) for Narrow-band Visual Telephone Systems and Terminal Equipment. A Concorde 4500, System 4200ZX or System 4000EX (with SG4 or 30 frames per second) can interoperate with other manufacturers' videoconferencing systems that comply with this recommendation. Version 6.11 software complies with these ITU-T Recommendations: General H.320 H.331 Broadcast Mode Audio G.711 G.722 G.728 Video H.261 Communications H.221 Frame Structure H.224 Real-Time Control Protocol H.242 Communication Procedure H.230 Control and Indications H.243 Multipoint Procedures (mandatory and some optional - chair control) H.281 Far-End Camera Control Some videoconferencing manufacturers may not have included all these choices in their product designs, or they may have added their own proprietary choices. If you experience video or audio problems while interoperating with an H.320 (Px64) system not produced by PictureTel, verify that the other manufacturer's system is configured as recommended for H.320 operation. Please also note that this release of Concorde software supports the T.123 transport layer within the T.120 data conferencing standards. 3

SOFTWARE VERSION 6.11 RELEASE BULLETIN Restrictions Removed Since Software Version 6.10 Software version 6.11 removes the following restrictions: If you are connecting to a Prism or Montage bridge, you can now assign a site name that is longer than 15 characters to the VCS. The Concorde 4500 will now go into standby mode when a control port is enabled. The Concorde 4500 can now successfully receive graphics through the Prism MCU. Audio problems associated with Socrates configurations have been corrected. The Concorde 4500 no longer locks up when the call rate changes on an attached terminal adapter. You can now place a call with a Concorde 4500 even if a change in data rate occurs on an attached terminal adapter. Usage Notes This section contains information you should take note of before you use this release. LimeLight Release 6.11 is the only software version that supports LimeLight. LimeLight works only with the main camera. To use LimeLight, you must have a wireless keypad with a green AUTOMATIC button. LimeLight positions the camera to the preset SHOW ROOM view at the start of a call and whenever the system is muted. Generally, you should set the SHOW ROOM view to a wideangle view of the room. LimeLight returns to the default wide-angle view, which is ten degrees lower than the PowerCam default position, when there is silence in the room for more than 15 seconds or when there is a non-speech noise for more than 30 seconds. This is a normal condition. LimeLight should be mounted on the top of the main monitor. If you must mount LimeLight in an enclosure, leave as much open space around LimeLight as possible, but at least one 4

Usage Notes User Interface meter (three feet) above, behind, and on each side of the LimeLight base. Do not place glass or anything else directly in front of LimeLight. Also, be sure LimeLight overhangs the edge of the surface on which it sits as described in the Installing and Using LimeLight document. When using Socrates version or earlier, use the AUTOMATIC button in the NEAR END section of the keypad to turn LimeLight on and off. Do not use the other buttons on the keypad while using Socrates. If you are viewing a snapshot and the call is disconnected, the snapshot will be removed and replaced with a blank screen. To return to normal viewing, press VIEW FAR END. One-time nondialed calling is available through the Dialing Directory. Refer to the Concorde 4500 Administrator s Guide for details. The *0 key sequence is no longer recognized for the wireless keypad. The **60 and **61 camera adjustment menus cannot be invoked while the system is in a call. Therefore, you cannot use these menus to adjust far-end cameras, as described in Chapter 2 of the Concorde 4500 Administrator s Guide. These menus can still be used to adjust near-end cameras when your system is not in a call. Infrared Peripheral Devices If you simultaneously press buttons on two or more infrared devices (wireless keypads, Look-At-Me-Buttons, VCR remote control, and so on), you may get no response from the system. You cannot use the zoom buttons at the same time as the pan/tilt buttons on the wireless keypad. Software version 6.11 allows you to store LAMB presets for the PowerCam 100 only. You cannot store LAMB presets for other cameras. 5

SOFTWARE VERSION 6.11 RELEASE BULLETIN Networks When placing a 2-line call through an ASCEND inverse multiplexer, if you attempt to hang up the call while the second channel is connecting, the hang up may not be successful. The call may still connect but only on a single channel. Press HANG UP again to disconnect. If your system is set to manual answer mode, and is operating through an X.21 network using a Promptus IMX-1B using software version 3.62 V2, you must set the Echo Cancellation Tone setting on the IMX-1B to Off. Encryption Before using the encryption option, you should refer to your User s Guide and Administrator s Guide for instructions. The Concorde 4500 and the System 4200ZX use an encryption icon on the status bar to indicate the status of encryption for the system configuration as well as for the call. If your system is set to use internal encryption, the icon is displayed. In addition, if your system is in a call and internal encryption is being used, the icon is displayed. VCR If you have two VCRs and you plan to play from and record to the VCRs during a video call, you must configure your system for two VCRs. Refer to your Administrator s Guide for instructions. During an audio/video loopback test, the VCR audio input to the videoconferencing system is looped back to the VCR audio output. This means that you will not hear the VCR audio at the loudspeaker. Refer to your Administrator s Guide for instructions on running the local audio/video loopback test. When you are recording a videoconference on a VCR, software version 6.11 records the input to the main monitor, but not the picture-in-picture (PIP) window. 6

Restrictions Miscellaneous It is strongly recommended that you leave the audio and video transmission formats set to automatic mode. If you connect to an H.320 (Px64) system that uses low speed data (LSD) but does not comply with H.224 and H.281 standards, you may not be able to use far-end camera control or other low speed data applications. When switching between valid and invalid video sources, you may encounter momentary video artifacts, such as dashed white lines across the image, or video tearing of the image. Some H.320 videoconferencing systems not produced by PictureTel may experience problems when receiving audio and/or video mute indications from your system. This is due to different interpretations of the H.320 specification. If you need to install a previous version of software on your system, record your configuration settings and the speed-dial numbers before you install the previous software version. You may lose this information when you power on your system with the earlier software version. Restrictions This section lists four categories of restrictions: Those that apply to all calls Those that apply only to calls that use the H.320 compression software Those that apply only to calls that connect to a bridge Those that apply only to calls that use information sharing devices Restrictions Applying to All Calls The following restrictions apply to all calls: When a call is hung up the message Warning, Link 64e channel rate mismatch may appear on the screen. This message will remain on the screen until you successfully place another call. 7

SOFTWARE VERSION 6.11 RELEASE BULLETIN Intermittently, the Concorde 4500 may disconnect during a call and display a 5a3, 5a4, or 5a6 error code. These errors cause the system to reboot. The wireless keypad is required for H.243 menu operation, DTMF tones, and LAN/user connection to a LIVE Gateway. Data Interface (DI) ports A and B should be used for connecting data peripherals. Ports C and D are reserved for sending transparent data during SG3 mode. Whenever you do not intend to use H.331 mode, you must make sure that H.331 is disabled. Proper operation of low speed data (LSD) and multi-layered protocol (MLP) channels depends on the audio mode selected. The chart below lists the bandwidths available for LSD and MLP channels for each audio mode that may be selected. The LSD rates show two rates, as follows: the rate with MLP/ maximum rate without MLP. The MLP rates show three rates, as follows: minimum rate/maximum rate/rate with no T.120 (information sharing) devices connected. Table 1: Available LSD and MLP Bandwidths for Selected Audio Modes Audio Mode 64K Channel 56K Channel LSD MLP LSD MLP G k/4.8k None None None G k/4.8k None None None G k/14.4k 8.0k/8.0k/0k 4.8k/4.8k None PT k/32k 8.0k/32k/0k 4.8k/24k 8.0k/24k/0k G k/40k 8.0k/40k/0k 4.8k/32k 8.0k/32k/0k Off 6.4k/62.4k 8.0k/40k/0k 4.8k/48k 8.0k/40k/0k 8

Restrictions Restrictions Applying Only to H.320 Calls The following restrictions apply only to calls that use H.320 (including H.261 or SG4 video mode): Internal encryption is not supported. You cannot use the Data Interface ports for synchronous data transmission. Do not switch network data rates during a call. Restrictions Applying to Calls Using a Bridge The following restrictions apply only to calls that access a bridge: The first participant entering a videoconference through a Montage MCU may not get video until other participants enter the videoconference. A call may disconnect if all the following circumstances exist: The call is placed through an ASCEND inverse multiplexer. One system has two meeting tools enabled and another system has one meeting tool enabled. One system has the control port enabled. If you hang up while dialing a 2x64 call through an ASCEND inverse multiplexer, a 1x64 call may be established. If the site that you are viewing disconnects from a Montage MCU, that site s image may remain frozen on your screen. To remove the image, browse another site. If you are calling into an M-8000 multipoint bridge, use of the BROWSE button on the wireless keypad is allowed only in SG3 conferences. If you are calling through a Montage MCU, and one or more sites receives distorted graphics, simply resend the graphic. If you are dialing into a password-protected H.243 LUCENT MCU (version 4.0), and the password is not entered within 60 seconds, the call will connect on one channel only. If this happens, press CALL/ADD and redial the second channel. To avoid this condition, make sure you enter the password within 60 seconds. 9

SOFTWARE VERSION 6.11 RELEASE BULLETIN Restriction Applying to Calls Using Information Sharing Devices The following restriction applies only to calls that use information sharing (T.120-compliant) devices: A call using the SG3 algorithm requires both your system and the far-end system(s) to use the same physical data port for the information sharing device port. 10
