4 1. Introduction Easyndexer is a web application for creating and managing databases with scanned documents. Its interface is friendly and it use is very easy, to provide to the common user a tool to create these databases without advanced knowledge of the field. This document describes the installation of the first version of the program on the server machine. Depending on the operation system and the computer knowledge, here there are described different ways to install the application. Before installing Easyndexer, please consult the requirements in the next chapter. 4

5 2. Requirements Easyndexer is a web application, and its main requirement is to have a server to run or a simulator. It can be Apache server or similar with: - PHP4 - SQLite3 In the Internet there are many solutions to have this. On the other hand, the client machines only need a normal web browser to access to the application in the server with: - HTML5 - CSS3 There is a version of Easyndexer with the server included (XAMPP). If you don t have an Apache server on your computer, this is a good version to start. 5

Installation on Windows without server (Advanced) If you are an user with advanced knowledge about computing and WWW, and you have an own server running on a machine, the only thing that you have to do to enjoy the Easyndexer application is to download from the web, the version without server and unpack it in your web server like another webpage. To access to the application from the server after installing it, you have to use a web browser and open the directory like another webpage (usually /localhost/easyndexer) or use the desktop icon. Remember that to add batches of documents to the tables of the databases of the system, the folders with the documents must be in the folder /easyndexer/scanned/. To do more easily this, the installation program creates a shortcut to this folder with the Documents folder. To access from another machine (client), you have to open a web browser and open the directory like another webpage (/localhost/easyndexer). You can also download the client, that it is just a shortcut to this. 6

7 4. Installation on Windows with XAMPP tool If you are a normal user who wants to have the application on one computer, you can download this version of the application. It installs the XAMPP tool on the computer, which runs an Apache Server with all the necessary packages. It is important not to change the settings of the installation and leave the directory C:/xampp for it. After this installation, it will be installed the Easyndexer tool in this server. To access to the Easyndexer in this case, it is necessary to run the apache server with the XAMPP tool. To do this, go to XAMPP Control Panel, and ensure Apache server is running as in Figure 4.1. 8 5. Installation on Linux To make the installation on Linux it is necessary to have an Apache Server in the Server machine. To install the application of Easyndexer you just have to unpack the package into the folder of the WebPages of the server. To unpack this package with the command line, you have to be in the directory of the file and type the following command: tar -vxf easyndexer_linux.tar 8

Client To use Easyndexer from a client, it is not necessary to install anything, no matters the operating system, because it uses the web interface, and it can be accessed just with a standard web browser. However, it exists for Linux and Windows, a client file; but it is just a shortcut to the webpage just in cases of local network configured. 9
