STEP 2: STEP 2A: STEP 2B: STEP 3: Inspect the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor and tubes. Verify the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor accuracy. Check the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor tubes. Check the presence of the aftertreatment DPF. Aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor reading 0 ± 3 kpa [0 ± 0.89 in Hg] with keyswitch ON and the engine OFF? Aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor tubes are installed correctly? STEP 3A: Inspect the aftertreatment DPF. Tampering or damage to the aftertreatment DPF? STEP 4: STEP : Check ECM calibration and clear fault codes. Check if an ECM calibration update is available. If a calibration update for this fault code is available, does the ECM contain that revision or higher? STEP 4B: Disable the fault code. Fault code inactive? STEP 1: STEP 1A: Check the fault codes. Check for active fault codes. Turn keyswitch ON TROUBLESHOOTING STEP Check for active fault codes. Use INSITE electronic service tool to read the fault codes. Fault Codes 1879, 1881, or 1883 active? Fault Codes 1879, 1881, or 1883 active? Appropriate troubleshooti ng symptom tree 2A
3 File: 148-t Page 3 of 6 STEP 2: STEP 2A: Inspect the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor and tubes. Verify the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor accuracy. Turn keyswitch ON. Verify the sensor accuracy. Monitor the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor reading with INSITE electronic service tool. sensor reading 0 ± 3 kpa [0 ± 0.89 in Hg] with keyswitch ON and the engine OFF? sensor reading 0 ± 3 kpa [0 ± 0.89 in Hg] with keyswitch ON and the engine OFF? Check for a short circuit from the SIGNAL pin of the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor to all other pins in the harness. Refer to Procedure in Section 19. If no short circuit is found, replace the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor. Refer to Procedure in the Associated Procedures Table. 2B STEP 2B: Turn keyswitch OFF. Check the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor tubes. Inspect the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor tubes for the following: Leaks or cracks in the differential pressure sensor tubes Loose fittings on the differential pressure sensor tubes Missing or broken differential pressure sensor tubes Plugged tubes Make sure the differential pressure tubes are installed correctly. It is possible the differential pressure tubes are connected backwards at the rubber tubes at the sensor connection. Refer to Procedure in the Associated Procedures Table. sensor tubes are installed correctly? sensor tubes are installed correctly? Repair or replace the aftertreatment DPF differential pressure sensor tubes. Refer to Procedure in the Associated Procedures Table. 3A
4 File: 148-t Page 4 of 6 STEP 3: STEP 3A: Check the presence of the aftertreatment DPF. Inspect the aftertreatment DPF. Turn keyswitch OFF Remove the aftertreatment DPF. Refer to Procedure in the Associated Procedures Table. Inspect the aftertreatment DPF. Inspect the aftertreatment system to determine if the aftertreatment DPF has been tampered with, has been removed from the exhaust system, or has been damaged. Refer to Procedure in the Associated Procedures Table. Tampering or damage to the aftertreatment DPF? Install the correct aftertreatment system for the vehicle. Refer to Procedure in the Associated Procedures Table. Tampering or damage to the aftertreatment DPF? Continue inspecting the aftertreatment systems for signs of tampering. STEP 4: STEP : Check ECM calibration and clear fault codes. Check if an ECM calibration update is available. Connect all components Compare the ECM code and revision number in the ECM to the calibration revisions listed in the ECM Calibration Revision History for applicable changes related to this fault code. Use INSITE electronic service tool to find the present ECM code and revision number in the ECM. The ECM code and revision number are found in the Calibration Information section of System ID and Dataplate in Features and Parameters. If a calibration update for this fault code is available, does the ECM contain that revision or higher? If a calibration update for this fault code is available, does the ECM contain that revision or higher? If necessary, calibrate the ECM. Refer to Procedure in Section 19. 4B 4B
5 File: 148-t Page 5 of 6 STEP 4B: Disable the fault code. Connect all components Disable and clear the fault code. Operate the engine within the "Conditions for Clearing the Fault Code" found in the Overview section of this troubleshooting procedure. Fault code inactive? Fault code inactive? Return to the troubleshooting steps or contact a Cummins Authorized Repair Location if all steps have been completed and checked again. Repair complete 1A
