3 Preface This Quick Start Guide is designed to help new and intermediate users navigate and perform common tasks with the ZEROPLUS s Bus Expert. It is also a highly sensitive electrical current sensing device. Users must carefully read instructions and procedures pertaining to installation and operation. Any instrument connected to the unit should be properly grounded to protect instrument and device under test. User opinions are very important to ZEROPLUS. 4 1 Feature of Bus Expert In this chapter, users will learn about the package contents, description, hardware specifications, system requirements, and safety issues of the ZEROPLUS s Bus Expert. Though this chapter is purely informative, we highly recommend reading this carefully to ensure safety and accuracy when performing any operation with the ZEROPLUS s Bus Expert. 1.1 Package Contents Verify the package contents before discarding packing materials. 11 1.4 System Requirements This section discusses basic operating system and hardware requirements for Bus Expert. Software and hardware capabilities may vary depending on PC configuration. 12 1.5 Device Maintenance and Safety Follow these instructions for proper operation and storage of Bus Expert as well as Active Probe : Table 1-6 Cautions Cautions Do not place heavy objects on the ZEROPLUS Logic Analyzer. Avoid hard impacts and rough handling. Protect the Logic Analyzer from static discharge. Do not disassemble the ZEROPLUS Logic Analyzer; this will void the warranty and could affect its operation. emmc 5.0 Probe,there are Signal Pad and GND Pad on this module board, in order to avoid signal attenuation, the length of connecting signal pad & device under test should not be exceeded 3cm. The recommendations are connected to GND Pad is better Cleaning Use a soft, damp cloth with a mild detergent to clean. Do not immerse or spray any liquid on the ZEROPLUS Logic Analyzer. Do not use harsh chemicals or cleaners containing substances such as benzene, toluene, xylene or acetone. Page 11

Note: EN :2001 specify degrees of pollution and their requirements. Logic Analyzer falls under Level 2. Pollution refers to addition of foreign matter, solid, liquid or gaseous (ionized gases), that may produce a reduction of dielectric strength or surface resistivity. Pollution Degree 1: No pollution or only dry, non-conductive pollution occurs. This pollution has no effect. Pollution Degree 2: Normally only non-conductive pollution occurs. Occasionally, however, temporary conductivity caused by condensation must be expected. Storage Environment Pollution Degree 3: Conductive pollution occurs or dry, non-conductive pollution occurs which becomes conductive due to condensation. In such conditions, equipment is normally protected against exposure to direct sunlight, precipitation and wind, but neither temperature nor humidity is controlled. 14 2 Installation This chapter describes the Installation of the Bus Expert Hardware and Software. The Software installation steps must be followed precisely to ensure successful installation. 2.1 Software Installation The software installation of Bus Expert will be served by our FAE Attention! There is Key file for emmc in installation CD, please kindly put the key file in the route: C:\Program Files (x86)\pc-based Instrument\ZEROPLUS\eMMC Expert\Standard\Protocol_PlugInsA 2.2 Hardware Installation 1. 16 2.3 Advanced Features and Tips 1. Sample Frequency setting:this instrument is designed for measuring emmc 5.0 / SD3.0 high-speed signals dedicated logic analyzer, so the sampling frequency is fixed under the 1.6GHz frequency signal capture samples. 2. Measurement other setting: could adjust sample rate to 250M 400M 800M & 1GHz when measuring other speed rate mode, can effectively increase the measured length in Bus Expert in the Timing Mode. 3. Introduction for BNC cable 3-4. Bus Expert Provide a trigger output and trigger input port (BNC), the user can trigger input / output ports connected via BNC cable to the other instruments (such as oscilloscopes, etc.) (Fig. 2-6) Fig Bus Expert will connect to the ZEROPLUS server for software updates if an internet connection is available. 5. Setting the trigger signal is then sent, but can not complete the trigger, you can fine-tune the resistance through the VR dedicated Probe on the board in order to achieve different trigger level to capture the signal (see Section 4 Setting Mode) 6. 18 3 Introduction to Logic Analysis In the third chapter we will introduce special software of Bus Expert-The "emmc Expert" and its applications, so that users familiar with emmc Expert software operation. If require more detailed information, please kindly refer to "Help" feature in the operating and programming software. 20 3.1.2 Sampling setting Bus Expert offers a variety of sampling settings available to users in accordance with the different analytical needs of emmc / SD signal acquisition, Figure 3-4 Fig. 3-4: Sampling setting Sampling Setting: For internal signal sampling only. Frequency setting: Setting the sampling frequency selection, a minimum of 250MHz, up to 1.6GHz. Channel setting: Number of channels in either 16ch or 4ch mode Multi-stacking: Multiple Bus Expert device hardware binding to provide increase the channel number or memory size * 1 Oscilloscope stacking: Logic analyzer and oscilloscope stacking allow oscilloscope waveform to display onto logic analyzer software screen, this will achieve digital waveform displayed simultaneously with the analog waveform for comparison analysis purpose. Memory Depth: Memory capacity can be set in different channel mode and allow difference in maximum memory available. 21 3.1.3 Navigator Navigator can preview the current data state of logic analyzer memory to allow users quickly retrieve waveforms and grasp the waveform data, shown in Figure 3-5. 22 3.1.4 Packet List Packet list is presenting the result of protocol decoding with inline manner that is easy for engineers to analysis, as shown in Figure 3-7. 23 3.1.6 Auto Test This function is mainly for within the specification of communication protocol, definition of a fixed flow program to confirm (ex. Initial Flow, Fig. 3-9), to assist engineers through Bus Expert In addition to the capture and analysis of information, but also to verify basic flow of the specification hence to be in control of device status. 24 3.1.7 Multi-level hardware trigger Bus Expert support high-speed multi-level hardware trigger with 48 trigger condition setting for the convenience of serial and parallel signal trigger which is ideal for engineers to track information on a particular data location, protocol command or trigger position! This function is activated from the main software screen under the "sampling" function and then click on the menu "Trigger and Search" button. alternatively user can click on the channel list in the "trigger" to enter multi-level hardware features. 25 Fig. 3-12: Multi-level hardware trigger screen page Multi-stage trigger provides two type of patterns, each of pattern supports two mode of determine methods for signal condition as follows: Data Mode- Normal Mode for Data on "non-synchronous sampling". The External clock is Data on" synchronous sampling" Trigger Condition- there are two condition: Edge and State with only either one of the two condition can be established. Edge is for Device clock and State is for Device Data Support only when starting Edge trigger conditions, can be a channel of rising edge or falling edge, or rising falling edge. Example shown in Figure The rising edge Clock of the channel A00 to proceed interpreted CMD signals of A1 channel, users only need to fill in each sequence Clock rising edge of the CMD line data ( ), it also means to input complete packet signal format of signal packet then the user can proceed with high-speed serial signals trigger! 26 Fig. 3-13: Multi-trigger function setting Protocol Hardware Trigger Bus Expert support emmc packet hardware trigger, mainly to allow engineers capture require packets data sufficiently and accurately by eliminating complex setting and adjusting of trigger conditions. This allow engineers to intuitively single command or data transmission information content for triggering. Before starting emmc hardware trigger packet require to configure emmc decoding parameter setting to decide which is the decoding BUS set (CMD or Data). Select the "trigger" at the top of the main program menu screen then tick "Protocol Hardware Trigger" to activate this feature. Page 25

28 3.1.9 Event Trigger emmc event trigger, Based on CMD index and Content trigger, can simultaneously support Device CMD corresponding with Resp. Type. This function is specially suitable for the needs of Firmware Engineers when verify emmc Protocol. CMD trigger can also be triggering up to 3 multiple CMD conditions during the triggering, and CRC, Busy synchronization trigger. Fig. 3-16: emmc CMDHardware packet trigger setting screen Page 27

29 3.2 Application of Protocol Analysis This section will explain how to use the Bus Expert in conduct SD / emmc protocol composition and bus analysis. The basic procedure as follows: Step 1: Select "Bus / Signal" on the screen, open bus Elf Step 2: Select the desired analyzes Bus patterns (emmc, SD3.0, Bus, Channel) Step 3: Composition the bus signal lines Fig. 3-17: Protocol Wizard function 1. Channel setting- Each channel and display to be set independently. 2. Bus setting- User can set a common signal bus 3. Protocol analyzer setting- Bus Expert unique bus decoding 4. 30 3.2.1 emmc Protocol Analysis Briefing emmc is a new storage technology. External Interface provides similar to SD card interface. Internal storage medium is Flash with built-in bad block management system. By eliminating the bad block management, so the operation is easier than Flash. Smaller size than the SD card hence it can be soldered to the circuit board. It is an ideal alternative to Nand Flash memory technology. Widely used in many products such as smart phones, tablet PCs. Zeroplus Bus Expert supports up to emmc v5.0 version. Decoding rate as shown in Table 3-1: table 3-1: emmc frequency Parameter setting Figure 3-18 is emmc parameter interface settings screen, and parameter setting screen is divided into 5 blocks- Mode setting Decode setting Decoding format Protocol Analyzer Format and Pin Assignment. Mode setting- Backwards compatibility, High speed, HS200 High speed and HS200 is emmc v5.0 version, Backwards compatibility is the previous version 2. Decode setting- Support the CMD, DATA and Timing 3. Decoding format- this function starts only when "decode setting" is Data, it can be set as 1, 4, 8 bit data format decoding. It also supports SDR, DDR Mode and the setting for size of each packet transmission Block 4. Protocol Analyzer Format- set the display colors and hexadecimal display unit packets 5. Pin Assignment- Set corresponding decode bus pins and signal paths. Note: Please take note for the pin setting, there are three fixed corresponding pin Clock = A0, CMD = A1, Data0 = A2 Page 30

32 Fig. 3-19: emmc Protocol Analyzer Format Setting screen SD3.0 bus analysis Introduction SD3.0 is the next generation of SD2.0. mainly to develop higher capacity and faster speed. The current common regulated products of SD3.0 on the market is SDHX. SD card has been widely applied to digital cameras, smart phones, laptops or varies kinds of 3C products storage media and it covers very broad usage. Key analysis of the SD3.0 is the development of high transmission rate (Max 208MHz), from the original SD2.0 with 50MHz transfer rate raised to up to four times 208MHz transfer rate. Three main modes data transmission patterns- SD 4-bit, SD 1-bit, SPI Mode, the basic require pins for the data decode are CLK, CMD, Data0 ~ Data3, and Zeroplus Technology Bus Expert currently support SD v3.0 version decoding. 33 Parameter setting Figure 3-20 is SD3.0 parameter interface settings screen, and parameter setting screen is divided into three blocks- Protocol Analyzer Property, Protocol Analyzer Format and Pin Assignment. 35 4 Special Probe Instructions Active circuit version exclusive design by Zeroplus, mainly for SD3.0 or emmc5.0 weak signal measurements under high speed interface set, completely solve the problem of load effect on the measurement of high-speed signals to make measurements SD / emmc interface more stability, improved signal quality measurements. Key section for adjustment as follows: Blue circle = VR resistance Red circle = Signal input pin Black circle = the ground pin (GND) Page 34

Adjust VR to allow testing point of Vref voltage is around 0.55VDC 3. Connect DuPont head to Clock pin of emmc 4. initiate emmc to generate 100MHz of CLK signal 5. Start Bus Expert device to capture CLK signal 6. Adjust VR based on DUTY of CLK signal: (1) "High" greater than 50%, indicating that Vref is too low, fine-tuning VR clockwise to level up Vref. (2) "High" less than 50%, indicating that Vref is too high, fine-tuning VR counterclockwise to level down Vref. 7. Repeat steps 4-6 until the DUTY of CLK signal is 50/50 ii. Active Probe Module - Fine tune procedure for Data line of DUT 1. Connect Active Probe Module to "Bus Expert" device 2. Connect DuPont head to other pin of emmc (CMD, Data) 3. initiate emmc, generate 100MHz of Data BUS signal 4. Start Bus Expert device to capture signal Page 35

37 5. Adjust VR based on DUTY of signal from each pin: (1) "High" greater than 50%, indicating that Vref is too low, fine-tuning VR clockwise to level up Vref. (2) "High" less than 50%, indicating that Vref is too high, fine-tuning VR counterclockwise to level down Vref. 6. Repeat steps 3-6 until the DUTY of the signal is 50/50 Note: If you are still unable to measure the signal according to the above process, please do not hesitate to deal with us Page 36
